The main goal of this work is the analysis of theoretical and methodological aspects of speech melody variation (intonation), with special reference to the pronunciation of one speaker. In order to carry on this study, different types of sentences (declarative, questions, etc.) and the intonational focus as well as the speaker‟s attitude (irony, emphasis, etc.) were observed and analyzed with special acoustic software (PRAAT) and with an auditory analysis of a text read by the subject. The aim of this work is to verify whether the acoustic analysis matches with the auditory perception phonetically, according to M.A.K. Halliday‟s methodology, following Cagliari (2007), who adapted Halliday‟s model to describe the intonation of Portuguese

In our experiments, we studied the classical dynamic of a particle in vertical motion subject to a constant gravitational field and the partial shock with an elastic wall with oscillatory motion located below the particle. The motion of the particle was confined to the vertical direction by a glass guide tube, which was initially evacuated, allowing viscous drag forces to be disregarded. The time between impacts, as well as the time between the reference phase of the movement of the base and the moment of impact and the period of oscillation of the base will be acquired by a hardware and software to obtain the phases space to be compared later with the description of the system through mapping discrete variables via the 'particle velocity immediately after shock 'and' phase of the movement of the base at the instant of shock 'obtained by computer simulation. This requires developing an electronic analog system followed by Digital implemented in reconfigurable logic, more specifically a sequential machine able to discriminate the impact with the metal base from the impacts of the glass guide tube, based on the frequency spectrum of the response of the microphone to these different impacts

Acoustic communication is essential in mammals and has three main functions: acquisition of information about the environment, intraspecific communication and detection of predators and prey. Studies indicate that the introduction of sounds produced by anthropogenic activities such as military exercises, use of sonar and activities related to the extraction of oil and natural gas can cause interference in cetacean communication. Recently, the discovery of pre-salt tends to increase these activities. After a decade since the launch date of IBAMA`s licensing and before the imminent increase in exploration activities in Brazil, it is essential to conduct studies to monitor closely the impact of this type of activity on the marine ecosystem. Thus, this study aims to identify potential impacts that the process of oil and natural gas exploration and production might have on the communication of baleen whales. Data from literature on bioacoustics and ecology of these animals were linked with technical-scientific data regarding this type of activity. 310 documents related to the topic were analyzed. Among them only 81 documents are of academic origin, and the others mostly action plans and reports from government agencies. 80% of the documents do not have any species as a focus, and in the remaining 20%, 17% were focused on the Greenland Whale (Balaena mysticetus) and 22% on the gray whale (Eschrichtius robustus). The main impacts identified in this study were the increased frequency and amplitude of vocalization, reduction or cessation of more elaborate songs and masking problems

This work presents the development of a graphical interface to the Lock-in Amplifier, which is used in physiological studies on the motility of the gastrointestinal tract in rats and signal processing. With a simple and low cost instrumentation, the resources offered by the virtual interface of LabVIEW software allows the creation of commands similar to the actual instrument that, through communication via standard serial port, transmits data between a PC and peripheral device performing specific and particular needs in the amplifier. Created for the lock-in amplifier model SR830 Stanford Research Systems, the remote manipulation gives the user greater accessibility in the process of configuration and calibration. And, since the software is installed, there is the advantage of eliminating the need of purchase new devices to upgrade the system. The commands created were made to perform six basic modifications that are used in routine of the Biomagnetism Laboratory. The instrumentation developed has the following controls: Amplitude, Frequency, Time Constant, slope low pass filter, sensitivity and offset

A launching rocket and its payload are submitted to strong acoustic loads in some moments of its flight like lift off, during transonic flight and in the instant of maximum dynamic pressure. These loads could affect the payload and other rocket internal equipment. It must be taken into account that in the higher stages, where delicate control equipment and the payload are placed, the acoustic excitations are dominant. The knowledge of the acoustic loads is of great importance in order to provide estimated loads for the design phase, define intensity level to specify qualification and acceptation acoustic tests to which subsystems and elements of the launcher and its payload shall be submitted and to design an acoustic … (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

In this paper, I will present a proposal for teachers’instrumentation in ICT by the configuration of a virtual learningenvironment (MOODLE) for advising Linguistics graduate students’projects on teacher education and language teaching mediated by digitaltechnologies. The context of the proposal is teaching as work, occasioned by an announcement from the IHE to encourage the use ofICT. Following the theoretical assumptions adopted by the ALTERresearch group, and confronted with the goals set in the text of theannouncement, the instrumentation involved the reorganization ofcontents provided by a graduate course in the research process steps:planning, implementation and dissemination, and of the artifactsaffordances: information, communication and production.
