The delay caused by the reflected ray in broadband communication has a great influence on the communications in subway tunnel. This paper presents measurements taken in subway tunnels at 2.4 GHz, with 5 MHz bandwidth. According to propagation characteristics of tunnel, the measurements were carried out with a frequency domain channel sounding technique, in three typical scenarios: line of sight (LOS), Non-line-of-sight (NLOS) and far line of sight (FLOS), which lead to different delay distributions. Firstly IFFT was chosen to get channel impulse response (CIR) h(t) from measured three-dimensional transfer functions. Power delay profile (PDP) was investigated to give an overview of broadband channel model. Thereafter, a long delay caused by the obturation of tunnel is observed and investigated in all the scenarios. The measurements show that the reflection can be greatly remained by the tunnel, which leads to long delay cluster where the reflection, but direct ray, makes the main contribution for radio wave propagation. Four important parameters: distribution of whole PDP power, first peak arriving time, reflection cluster duration and PDP power distribution of reflection cluster were studied to give a detailed description of long delay characteristic in tunnel. This can be used to ensure high capacity communication in tunnels

Ocean Drilling Program Leg 135 drilled at two sites on the Tonga Ridge. Calcareous nannofossils recovered at Site 840 on the Tonga Ridge date the sedimentary sequence as late Pleistocene or Holocene (CN15) through late Miocene (CN9) in age. A hiatus occurs in the mid Pliocene. Site 841 in the Tonga Trench yielded a sedimentary sequence with nannofossils from middle Pleistocene Subzone CN14b through the middle or late Eocene Subzones CP14a-CP15b overlying a rhyolitic volcanic basement. Part of the Eocene interval contains the shallow-water nannofossil taxa Braarudosphaera, Micrantholithus, and Pemma. A major unconformity separates lower Oligocene Zone CP 16 from lower middle Miocene Zone CN4 strata.

Six sites were drilled on the southern Iberia Abyssal Plain during Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Leg 173. Three holes (1067A, 1068A, and 1069A) recovered Eocene sediments consisting of thinly bedded turbidite deposits with interbedded hemipelagic sediments (Bouma sequence Te) deposited near the calcite compensation depth. The hemipelagic sediments are barren of nannofossils, necessitating the use of the turbidite deposits to erect an Eocene biostratigraphy for these holes. Moderately preserved, diverse assemblages of nannofossils were recovered from silty clays (Bouma sequence Td) and poorly preserved, less diverse assemblages were recovered from sandy/silty clays (Bouma sequence Tc). Hole 1067A has a continuous record of sedimentation (Subzones CP9a-CP14a) and Holes 1068A and 1069A have similar continuous records (Subzones CP9a-CP12a), although all holes contain barren intervals. Holes 1067A, 1068A, 1069A, 900A (ODP Leg 149), and 398D (Deep Sea Drilling Project Leg 47B) display a similar increase in mass accumulation rates in the lowermost middle Eocene. A reliable Eocene biostratigraphy has been erected using nannofossil data from turbidite sequences, allowing for correlation between Iberia Abyssal Plain sites.
