Esta dissertação aborda o tema da imigração italiana à luz do imaginário daqueles que se dirigiam em massa para o Brasil, entre o final do século XIX e início do XX, em busca de um mundo novo, perseguindo o sonho de um Paraíso Terrestre, o país imaginário da Cocanha. O tema é abordado a partir de obras literárias, como o poema francês, datado do século XIII, o Fabliau da Cocanha e da narrativa Vita e Stòria di Nanetto Pipetta, que apresenta o jovem personagem imigrante clandestino vêneto, criado por Aquiles Bernardi, e cujas aventuras eram publicadas semanalmente em capítulos no jornal gaúcho Stafetta Riograndense, nos anos 1924-1925. A trama vivida pelo personagem que dá título à obra é fio condutor das reflexões apresentadas. Para o imigrante italiano, o imaginário sobre o Brasil como o país da Cocanha encontra neste personagem sua expressão fiel, mantendo acesa a chama da esperança de uma vida melhor para si e para as gerações futuras.

A tese Marcas Identitárias - presença italiana no sertão da Bahia, insere-se na Linha de Pesquisa Cultura Política do Programa de História Política da UERJ. O tema se define em torno do poder simbólico, práticas culturais e representações, além do confronto de imaginários. A problemática analisada aborda questões vinculadas à imigração italiana no sudoeste da Bahia, em Jequié, no periodo de 1878 a 1910. A presença desses europeus no sertão baiano despertou a atenção para o estudo de um fenômeno histórico pouco explorado pelos estudiosos em imigração, orientados em sua maioria para a imigração no sul do país. A tese destaca questões pontuais sobre as alterações devido à introdução de novas formas identitárias que se confrontaram naquela região sertaneja. Os procedimentos teórico-metodológicos se referem à História Cultural. A análise da questão fundamentou-se em fontes primárias coletadas nos Arquivos de Salvador e de Jequié, além de documentos particulares dos descendentes dos imigrantes italianos residentes naquele Município.

This paper reports laboratory measurements of the spectrum of highly ionized sulfur. The spectrum of S Ⅸ–S ⅩⅢ has been observed in the wavelength range 170–500 Å. A total of 54 lines have been measured. Forty-two of them have been classified as 2s22pk–2s2pk+1and 2s2pk–2pk+1 transitions. Twelve other lines have been ascribed to 2s–2p,4p–5s,5p–6s,5d–6p, and 6p–8d transitions. These spectral lines have been identified, among which 22 are new and accurately measured. The analysis of the spectra was based on a comparison with other experimental results and calculated values.

My research investigates a recent tendency in Italian literature, characterized by elements of renewal within the novel-writing tradition and of discontinuity with postmodern culture. It proposes an interpretation of the genres of the historical novel and crime fiction in the last fifteen years, in order to underline the important role played by these types of narrative in revitalizing contemporary Italian literature. These modalities of writing are considered both individually and in their connections beyond a traditional notion of genre, emphasizing those characteristics which may be assumed as irreconcilable with a postmodern approach to fiction and those which, furthermore, seem to indicate attempts to take a new course. In particular, my study analyses the recent literary tendency to combine the elements of ‘crime’ and ‘history’ in order to represent political and social reality, and how the works examined relate to postmodern narrative. For this reason, I pay particular attention to the relationship between literature and the past and to the socio-political aspects connected with the praxis of narrating, offering an original interpretation of the way in which the authors studied engage with these characteristics.

Recent fully relativistic calculations of radiative rates and electron impact excitation cross-sections for FeXIII are used to generate emission-line ratios involving 3s23p2-3s3p3 and 3s23p2-3s23p3d transitions in the 170-225 and 235-450 Å wavelength ranges covered by the Solar Extreme-Ultraviolet Research Telescope and Spectrograph (SERTS). A comparison of these line ratios with SERTS active region observations from rocket flights in 1989 and 1995 reveals generally very good agreement between theory and experiment. Several new FeXIII emission features are identified, at wavelengths of 203.79, 259.94, 288.56 and 290.81 Å. However, major discrepancies between theory and observation remain for several FeXIII transitions, as previously found by Landi and others, which cannot be explained by blending. Errors in the adopted atomic data appear to be the most likely explanation, in particular for transitions which have 3s23p3d1D2 as their upper level. The most useful FeXIII electron-density diagnostics in the SERTS spectral regions are assessed, in terms of the line pairs involved being (i) apparently free of atomic physics problems and blends, (ii) close in wavelength to reduce the effects of possible errors in the instrumental intensity calibration, and (iii) very sensitive to changes in Ne over the range 108-1011cm-3. It is concluded that the ratios which best satisfy these conditions are 200.03/202.04 and 203.17/202.04 for the 170-225 Å wavelength region, and 348.18/320.80, 348.18/368.16, 359.64/348.18 and 359.83/368.16 for 235-450 Å.

Effective collision strengths for transitions among the lowest 97 fine-structure levels belonging to the (1s(2)2s(2)2p(6)) 3s(2)3p(2), 3s3p(3), 3s(2)3p3d, 3p(4), 3s3p(2)3d and 3s(2)3d(2) configurations of Fe XIII have been calculated using the fully relativistic Dirac Atomic R-matrix Code (DARC) of Norrington & Grant (2004). Resonances have been resolved in the threshold region, and results are reported over a wide electron temperature range up to log T-e = 6.8 K. Comparisons are made with the earlier available R-matrix results of Gupta & Tayal (1998), and the accuracy of the data is assessed.

Energy levels and radiative rates for transitions among the lowest 97 fine-structure levels belonging to the (1s(2) 2s(2) 2p(6)) 3 s(2) 3p(2), 3s3p(3), 3s(2) 3p3d, 3p(4), 3s3p(2) 3d and 3s(2) 3d(2) configurations of Fe XIII have been calculated using the fully relativistic GRASP code. Additionally, collision strengths for transitions among these levels have been computed using the Dirac Atomic R-matrix Code (DARC) of Norrington & Grant (2004). Radiative rates and oscillator strengths are tabulated for all allowed transitions among the 97 fine-structure levels, while collision strengths are reported for some transitions at a few energies above thresholds. Comparisons are made with the available results, and the accuracy of the data is assessed.

Energy levels and radiative rates for fine-structure transitions in nickel ions (Ni XIII-XVI) have been calculated using the GRASP code. Configuration interaction and relativistic effects have been included, and comparisons are made with available data. Energy levels and radiative rates are tabulated for transitions among the 48, 43, 32, and 84 levels of Ni XIII, Ni XIV, Ni XV, and Ni XVI, respectively. The energy levels are assessed to be accurate to better than 5% for a majority of levels, while oscillator strengths for all strong transitions are accurate to better than 20%. Energy levels and oscillator strengths (transition probabilities) have been calculated for the fine-structure transitions among the levels of the (1s(2)) 2s(2)2p(2), 2s2p(3), 2p(4), 2s(2)2p3s, 2s(2)2p3p, and 2s(2)2p3d configurations of C-like F IV, Na VI, Al VIII, P X, Cl XII, and Ar XIII using the CIV3 program. The extensive configuration interaction and relativistic effects have been included while generating the wavefunctions. Calculated values of energy levels generally agree within 5% with the experimentally compiled results, and the length and velocity forms of oscillator strengths agree within 20% for a majority of allowed transitions.
