The almaco jack Seriola rivoliana belongs to the Carangidae family of fishes. These species are an important resource for recreational and commercial fisheries worldwide. Among other attributes, almaco jack has being identified as potentially aquaculture species due to their fast growth, excellent flesh quality and significant market opportunities internationally. The present work describes the establishment of broodstock of Seriola rivoliana in the Instituto Canario de Ciencias Marinas from year 2006 to 2009 and subsequent maturation and spawning. Twenty sub adults were captured by local fisherman in the South coast of Gran Canaria in may 2006. Adaptation to culture conditions in tanks and inert food was successfully carried out just after one moth of capture. Initial fish weight (1,76± 0,25kg), was increased to 6,0±1,1kg in july 2009. Every year fish were sampled to determine individual growth in weight and size. In addition, the evolution of its sexual maturity state was established by gonadal biopsy. In July 2009, the use of hormonal injection (LHRH) results in two successful spawns with 42% of viable eggs.

[EN]The objective of this experiment was to determine the efficacy of different GnRHa doses for the induction of the spawning in meagre broodstock born in captivity. Five experimental groups were established, and one control group that was not injected. Fish were acclimated in six 10 m3 tanks, and in each tank there was 3? and 4? with an average weight of 8.33±0.97 and 8.47±1.09 kg respectively. Throughout the experimental period (April 14- June 2 of 2009), broodstock were induced on a weekly basis. Each time one female and two males from each of the five experimental groups were induced with an injection of GnRHa at the doses of 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 ?g.kg-1 respectively. No significant differences were found in any of the controlled parameters: % of injected females with spawning, latency period and % of spawns. Although the highest spawning ratio was obtained with the lower doses, a statistically significant negative correlation between the doses and percentage spawning was found.

[EN] First description of the complete embryo and larval development of the Canarian abalone (Haliotis tuberculata coccinea Reeve.) was conducted along 39 stages from fertilization to the appearance of the third tubule on the cephalic tentacles and illustrated in a microphotographic sequence. Eggs obtained by induced spawning with hydrogen peroxide from the GIA captive broodstock were stocked at a density of 10 eggs/mL and kept at 23 0.5 BC for 62 h until the formation of the third tubule. Live eggs and larvae were continuously observed on a 24 h basis at a 3400 magnification under transmitted light. At each stages, specific morphological features, illustrated by microscopic photographs, were described, as well as the time required for their apparition. Fertilized eggs diameter was 205 8 mm (mean SD), whereas length and width of larvae ready to undergo metamorphosis were 216.6 5.3 mmand 172 8.8 mm, respectively. Knowledge on the larval morphological development acquired through this study will contribute to the improvement of larval rearing techniques for this abalone species.

The Adriatic sturgeon, Acipenser naccarii (Bonaparte, 1836), is a highly threatened species due to human activities, particularly overfishing and habitat destruction. Its peculiar ecology and biology (restricted areal and anadromy) makes this species particularly vulnerable. In March 2010 the IUCN has identified the Adriatic sturgeon as a critically endangered species according to the Red List of Threatened Species. Due to its rapid decline, starting from the 80s, at present there is no evidence of natural reproduction in wild environment, which makes the Adriatic sturgeon dependenton captive breeding programs that need to be improved in order to be effective for the survival of the species. For this purpose this study aims to characterize artificial restocking population of Adriatic sturgeon, with both genetic and physiological analysis in order to establish an efficient restocking program for future reproductions. The research is structured on two levels: First genetically, by analyzing 9 microsatellite loci. This gives information relatively about parent allocation and kinship between individuals that were sampled for this study. Hence to predict which reproduction events are the most optimal in terms of incrementing genetic diversity, by the estimation of multilocus pairwise band sharing coefficients. Second step, physiological analysis: testosterone (T) concentration levels in each individual were measured for sexing, without sacrificing the lives of the animals with the use of an invasive examination of the gonads. The combination of interdisciplinary analysis is important to obtain an overall picture in order to indicate the main broodstock participating in reproduction events and future optimal potential participants, in order to ensure a valid management for restocking program and their monitoring.

Hatchery-reared Atlantic salmon Salmo salar smolts produced from captive-reared Dennys River and sea-run Penobscot River broodstock are released into their source rivers in Maine. The adult return rate of Dennys smolts is comparatively low, and disparity in smolt quality between stocks resulting from genetic or broodstock rearing effects is plausible. Smolt behavior and physiology were assessed during sequential 14-d trials conducted in seminatural annular tanks with circular flow. "Migratory urge'' (downstream movement) was monitored remotely using passive integrated transponder tags, and gill Na(+),K(+)-ATPase activity was measured at the beginning and end of the trials to provide an index of smolt development. The migratory urge of both stocks was low in early April, increased 20-fold through late May, and declined by the end of June. The frequency and seasonal distribution of downstream movement were independent of stock. In March and April, initial gill Na(+),K(+)-ATPase activities of Penobscot River smolts were lower than those of Dennys River smolts. For these trials, however, Penobscot River smolts increased enzyme activity after exposure to the tank, whereas Dennys River smolts did not, resulting in similar activities between stocks at the end of all trials. There was no clear relationship between migratory urge and gill Na(+),K(+)-ATPase activity. Gill Na(+),K(+)-ATPase activity of both stocks increased in advance of migratory urge and then declined while migratory urge was increasing. Maximum movement was observed from 2 h after sunset through 1 h after sunrise but varied seasonally. Dennys River smolts were slightly more nocturnal than Penobscot River smolts. These data suggest that Dennys and Penobscot River stocks are not markedly different in either physiological or behavioral expression of smolting.

This thesis considers the factors involved in the determination of egg quality and fecundity in farmed stocks of rainbow trout ( Salmo gairdneri R) • Measurements of egg quality, ie. percentage survivals of eggs and fry, from the production batches of eggs of seven fish farms, showed mean survivals of 70% to eying but levels of only 35% to 4.5g fry (approx. 130 days post-fertilisation). Under optimum conditions survivals may reach 85% suggesting that husbandry methods exert significant influences on egg quality. Chemical analyses of the protein, fat, vitellogenin, ash, amino acids, free fatty acid and mineral levels of eggs of varying quality and from parents of different strains showed compositional differences even between individuals of the same stock. However, none of these differences were correlated with egg quality. Egg size showed similar variations but, again under hatchery conditions there was no correlation with differences in egg quality. The only factor which has been shown to exert a significant influence on egg quality is the time of stripping after ovulation. At 1 0°C eggs should be removed from gravid females within ten days of ovulation to achieve optimum egg and fry survival. Studies of egg production from approximately 10,000 broodstock revealed that total fecundity and egg size increased and relative fecundity decreased with increasing fish size. In general, most fish appeared to produce a constant volume of eggs. This is consistent with a hypothesis that egg size can only be increased by parallel reductions in fecundity. Feeding broodstock at half-ration (0.35% body weight day- 1 ) did not affect egg quality but reduced total fecundity and egg size and increased relative fecundity when compared with eggs produced by fish on full-ration. Comparisons of regressions of total fecundity against fish weight for three strains using ANOCO revealed that one strain was significantly more fecund than two other strains considered. Trout of the same strain maintained on different farms behaved similarly suggesting there was some reproducibility of strain characteristics.

Nowadays, following was expanded shrimp breeding and culture; viral diseases have been main problem which threatened shrimp industry in the country. Therefore, shrimp samples were obtained from different stages of Litopenaeus vannmei life cycle (larval, post larval, juveniles, adults and broodstocks) based on clinical signs in the breeding center and shrimp farming from Bushehr, Khozestan and Sistan and Baluchestan provinces. Viral diseases were detected by PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction), histopathology and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) methods. Results of the PCR were indicated present white spot virus (WSV) in juveniles, sub adults and adults shrimp with medium intensity from three provinces, but it was not showed in larval and post larval stages. Histopathological sections were indicated hypertrophy and basophilic Cowdry type A formation in nucleus cells of gill, haematopoietic, lymphoid and epithelial's cuticles and intestinal tissues which was associated with small vacuoles increased in B cells of hepatopancreas tissue of infection shrimps. Transmission electronic microscopic studies were demonstrated that the length and diameter virus was detected, respectively, 300 ± 20 nm and 75 ± 5 nm. Considerable, results of the PCR were only displayed IHHNV in juvenile, adult and broodstock shrimps from breeding and farming center of Bushehr province. The main lesion pathology was formed eosinophilic Cowdry type A in nucleus cells of gill, haematopoietic, lymphoid and epithelial's cuticles and intestinal tissues. Whereas penaeid shrimps are lack specific immune system, hence, in the present study was used of marine alga (Lurensia snideria) collected from along costal Persian Gulf of Bushehr province for viral diseases were prevented. Powder alga extract were added with a ratio of 1 % to shrimp diet. Total haemocyte count (THC) and total protein plasma (TPP) were increased after 5 days of oral administration diets. When shrimps were infected by with spot virus experimentally, THC and TPP gradually were increased in both two groups (shrimps fed with diet containing alga extract and without alga extract) after 48h. Nevertheless; THC, TPP and survival of shrimp fed with diet containing alga extract were more than shrimp control in 15 days. So, oral administration Lurensia snideria extract was capable prevention infected L. vannamei via stimulant specific immune system.
