Palabras clave: teledetección, CO2, vegetación, satélite Monitoring CO2 emissions in a natural analogue by correlating with vegetation indices Abstract: Among the most satisfactory solutions for the CO2 emissions problem is the capture and storage of this greenhouse gas in deep reservoirs. This technique involves the need to monitor large areas. Using a volcanic area with residual activity, in the province of Ciudad Real, CO2 emissions were monitored through very high spatial resolution imagery. Vegetation indexes were generated and correlated with measurements of the air?s CO2 content at the emission points. The results yielded significant correlation levels (e.g.: SAVI = -0.93) and led to the discovery of a new CO2 emission point. Keywords: remote sensing, CO2, vegetation, satellite.

In vivo antinociception studies demonstrate that deltorphins are opioid peptides with an unusually high blood–brain barrier penetration rate. In vitro, isolated bovine brain microvessels can take up deltorphins through a saturable nonconcentrative permeation system, which is apparently distinct from previously described systems involved in the transport of neutral amino acids or of enkephalins. Removing Na+ ions from the incubation medium decreases the carrier affinity for deltorphins (−25%), but does not affect the Vmax value of the transport. The nonselective opiate antagonist naloxone inhibits deltorphin uptake by brain microvessels, but neither the selective δ-opioid antagonist naltrindole nor a number of opioid peptides with different affinities for δ- or μ-opioid receptors compete with deltorphins for the transport. Binding studies demonstrate that μ-, δ-, and κ-opioid receptors are undetectable in the microvessel preparation. Preloading of the microvessels with l-glutamine results in a transient stimulation of deltorphin uptake. Glutamine-accelerated deltorphin uptake correlates to the rate of glutamine efflux from the microvessels and is abolished by naloxone.

Background: Numerous international policy drivers espouse the need to improve healthcare. The application of Improvement Science has the potential to restore the balance of healthcare and transform it to a more person-centred and quality improvement focussed system. However there is currently no accredited Improvement Science education offered routinely to healthcare students. This means that there are a huge number of healthcare professionals who do not have the conceptual or experiential skills to apply Improvement Science in everyday practise. Methods: This article describes how seven European Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) worked together to develop four evidence informed accredited inter-professional Improvement Science modules for under and postgraduate healthcare students. It outlines the way in which a Policy Delphi, a narrative literature review, a review of the competency and capability requirements for healthcare professionals to practise Improvement Science, and a mapping of current Improvement Science education informed the content of the modules. Results: A contemporary consensus definition of Healthcare Improvement Science was developed. The four Improvement Science modules that have been designed are outlined. A framework to evaluate the impact modules have in practise has been developed and piloted. Conclusion: The authors argue that there is a clear need to advance healthcare Improvement Science education through incorporating evidence based accredited modules into healthcare professional education. They suggest that if Improvement Science education, that incorporates work based learning, becomes a staple part of the curricula in inter-professional education then it has real promise to improve the delivery, quality and design of healthcare.

In this paper a genetic algorithm (GA) is applied on Maximum Betweennes Problem (MBP). The maximum of the objective function is obtained by finding a permutation which satisfies a maximal number of betweenness constraints. Every permutation considered is genetically coded with an integer representation. Standard operators are used in the GA. Instances in the experimental results are randomly generated. For smaller dimensions, optimal solutions of MBP are obtained by total enumeration. For those instances, the GA reached all optimal solutions except one. The GA also obtained results for larger instances of up to 50 elements and 1000 triples. The running time of execution and finding optimal results is quite short.

In this paper a variable neighborhood search (VNS) approach for the task assignment problem (TAP) is considered. An appropriate neighborhood scheme along with a shaking operator and local search procedure are constructed specifically for this problem. The computational results are presented for the instances from the literature, and compared to optimal solutions obtained by the CPLEX solver and heuristic solutions generated by the genetic algorithm. It can be seen that the proposed VNS approach reaches all optimal solutions in a quite short amount of computational time.
