Microbiological and physicochemical aspects of ���salpic��o���, a traditional dry sausage produced in the northeast of Portugal

Counts of total viable mesophilic bacteria (TVC), lactic acid bacteria (LAB), Microccocaceae, Enterobacteriaceae, Salmonella spp. and Listeria monocytogenes, in traditional Portuguese dry sausages from two industrial producers, were compared in batter and final product. During the production process, the TVC increased significantly, most likely due to the multiplication of fermentative flora. Enterobacteriaceae decreased from batter to final product while the S. aureus increased. Great variability was verified in detection of L. monocytogenes both between batches and industrial producers

Aportaci��n al conocimiento de las clases Pogonato-Dicranelletea heteromallae Hubschmann 1975 y Ceratodo-Polytrichetea piliferi Hubschmann1967 en el Sur de Espa��a y Portugal

Se dan a conocer cinco comunidades que constituyen la vegetaci��n briof��tica m��s frecuente sobre los suelos ��cidos del sur de la Pen��nsula Ib��rica: Pogonatetum aloidis (Pogonation aloidis), Fossombronio-Phaeoceretum bulbiculosi y Saccogyno-Fissidentetum serrulati (Dicranellion heteromallae, Dicranelletalia heteromallae, Pogonato-Dicranelletea heteromallae), la asociaci��n Calypogeio-Pallavicinietum lyellii no se incluye en ninguna alianza del mencionado orden. Se propone una nueva alianza submediterr��nea-subatl��ntica, Campylopodion fragili-introflexi (Polytrichetalia piliferi, Ceratodo-Polytrichetea piliferi), describi��ndose para ella una asociaci��n del sur y suroeste de la Pen��nsula, Polytricho-Campylopodetum polytrichoidis.

The Violent Maintenance of the Portuguese Colonial Identity and the Search for a Postcolonial one: literary images of Portugal as a colonial and postcolonial nation

Through the examination of Cam��es's Os Lus��adas , Sena's Os Gr��o-Capit��es and Saramago's A Jangada de Pedra , this article explores violence as a means of shaping Portuguese identity in different historical contexts, and how these works portray the continued recourse to violence as Portugal moves from colonizing to postcolonial nation.

The Portugal coastal counter current off NW Spain: new insights on its biogeochemical variability

Time series of wind-stress data, AVHRR and SeaWiFS satellite images, and in situ data from seven cruises are used to assemble a coherent picture of the hydrographic variability of the seas off the Northwest Iberian Peninsula from the onset (September-October) to the cessation (February-May) of the Portugal coastal counter current (PCCC). During this period the chemistry and the biology of the shelf, slope and ocean waters between 40degrees and 43degreesN have previously been undersampled.
