The purpose of this study was to evaluate surface rugosity among indirect esthetic materials (Vita VMK 95, Solidex, Artglass, Targis). Ten samples of each material in the cilindric shape with dimension 6 x 6 mm were manufactured. The surface were submitted to finishing and polishing, according to manufacturer's recommendations. The samples were submitted to measuremenst, using the Hommel Tester T500 device. The average values of maxim surface rugosity among the materiais ín question, were 5, 73pm; 5, 15pm; 6, 83 j.Jm e 3, 72 j.Jm, respectively. Sample were also subjectted to variance analysis- ANOVA (5%), had detected significance. Concluded that the material Solidex did not present significant statistical differences among groups, while Targis presented significant statistical differences in relation to the Artglass and the ceramic Vita vmk95.

The brazilian research in the field of dentistry stand on the world stage, this article examines the relationship of scientific information produced and its influence on information behavior of dentists who need to constantly update their clinical practice. The method used consists in a survey of the bibliometric indicators in the field of dentistry in SCimago published from 1996 to 2009 and a literature review of articles dealing with the thematic information and scientific communication in the field of dentistry in Brazil that are related to issues relevant for analyzing the dentist’s information behavior, such as most read journals, scientific information in the clinical practice, among others.

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is a technique used to treat several types of lesions, such as cancer, microbial control, and esthetic dentistry cases. The performance of PDT involves the use of a photosensitizer (PS), which mainly will be located in cancer cells and is irradiated with visible light. This process, when it occurs in the presence of oxygen triggers the formation of reactive oxygen species that are cytotoxic to cells. These species cause cell death and subsequent tumor necrosis. The use of white light as a light source for multispectral Photodynamic Therapy and its consequences to the photodynamic effect is not yet completely established, and therefore there is interest in studying the parameters involved for analyzing the best conditions for applying treatment. The wavelength is crucial to improve the therapeutic effect, since both the optical properties of the biological tissue as the PS depend on these parameters. For FS studied in this work (Photogem®) are most often used wavelengths in the red region, due to their larger penetration depth in biological tissue. Thus, the light source becomes a fundamental aspect, their choice depends on the specific application and is based on the tumor location, light dose to be delivered and FS chosen. Despite all the advantages presented by lasers, the fact of having an emission spectrum essentially monochrome makes only one possible transition possible for the absorption of FS is used. Therefore, more extensive light sources such as light emitting diodes (LED), could be better used in some cases the laser, with the additional advantage of a reduced cost. Therefore, the choice of the white LED comes from an emission spectrum that still wider LED colors defined by allowing greater use of the several absorption bands and with varying depths of operation, according to the wavelength... Current dental treatments search for alternatives to achieve restablishment of esthetics and function. The increased demand for high esthetic patterns stimulates an interaction between the dental specialties towards a comprehensive treatment in order to solve slinical cases effectively. Knowing the components involved in the dental smile harmony is essential for treatment planning and implementation. It is also important to be aware of the changes that may impair suck harmony and become a patient's complaint. This article addresses a multidisciplinary treatment that involved the integration between Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry. After the surgical-restorative planning, periodontal procedures were performed to obtain an adequate balance between the teeth and soft tiessues.

The development of new dental materials has expanded dental therapeutic modalities ensuring excellence in aesthetic restorative treatments. Thus, the direct restorative procedures have been used in cases of dental reconstruction allowing an effective treatment with a low cost, while preserving healthy tooth structure. However, the clinician must be used to the techniques and the material in order to ensure longevity and success in the direct restorative procedure. The aim of this paper is to descrive, after completion of periodontal surgical procedures, the direct restorative step performed for dental reconstruction and diastema closure. The integration between Restorative Dentistry and periodontics enableb the restoration of a harmonious smile in a conservative manner, ensuring aesthetics and patient stisfaction.
