The instrumentation applied to the Charpy test machine allows the accompaniment of the specimen answer front the impact load, in form of a sign characteristically dynamic representative of the deformation process and it fractures of material tested. The main advantages of the rehearsal conventional Charpy: low cost, manufacturing sample facilities and simple handle the machine. With the instrumentation, the number of information regarding the process of fracture of the specimen increases. In this work discusses the influence of the hammer geometry in determination of the force during the process of specimen fracture submitted to the instrumented impact test Charpy-V. The purpose is obtaining a hammer, in conformity with Norma ISO 14.556, with great sensibility to register the force during the impact. Two geometries different from hammers were instrumented and rehearsed with material of low tenacity, in this case the steel ABNT 4140 in the condition of having normalized. It could be proven as larger the sensibility of the hammer, adult will be the effects of the shock waves in the strain gages of the transducer.

This paper discusses the formation of microstructures with different volume fractions, as an outcome of a specific heat treatment, with the following phases: ferrite, martensite, bainite and retained austenite. For the microstructure characterization it is developed a chemical etching that allows to distinguish the phases by optical microscopy. The evaluation of the mechanical properties is done based on the results of tensile and fatigue tests. The experimental results show that appropriate heat treatments can contribute to a significant improvement in the mechanical properties of the steel. In this process it is essential to control the fraction volume, morphology of the phases, and grain size.

A very new method application for digital image processing and analysis to classify shape and evaluate size and morphology parameters of pit corrosion is used in this paper. This method seems to be very effective to analysis surfaces with low or high degree of pitting formation. Pits formed on 2024 alloy surface by chloride and by chloride + molibdate anions have similar mean area, are found to be widther than deeper and exhibit predominantly conical or near-conical and irregular geometries.

This paper has as a purpose a new alternative technique development to characterize pitting corrosion evolution, aiming classification, size and determination of morphological parameters which rule pits increase. In this case, the method will be applied to the 304 ABNT stainless steel, thermally treated and exposed to different times in salt spray. Different 304 steel conditions, rolled and thermally treated have exhibited similar geometry, predominantly conic, near-conic and irregular pits. On rolled steel, pits width increases faster than height; however, on thermally treated steel, pits are found to increase in height.

The use of oxygen to enrich the combustion air can be an attractive technique to increase capacity of an incinerator originally designed to operate with air. If incinerator parameters such as operation temperature, turbulence level and residence time are fixed for a certain fuel supply rate, it is possible to increase the residue consumption rate using enriched air. This paper presents the thermal analysis for operation with enriched air of an aqueous residue experimental incinerator. The auxiliary fuel was diesel oil. The theoretical results showed that there is a considerable increase in the incineration ratio up to approximately 50 % of O 2 in the oxidiser. The tendency was confirmed experimentally. Thermal analysis was demonstrated to be an important tool to predict possible incinerator capacity increase.

Grain refinement of low carbon steel via the warm deformation of martensite during torsion testing was investigated. At the beginning of straining, laths with high dislocation density were observed. After large deformations, a ferrite matrix with grain size close to 1μm and dispersed cementite particles were attained.

Copper, zinc and nickel oxides present different properties in nanostructured form. These nanomaterials present very interesting morphologies such as urchin and flowers. This differents arquitechures can be employed in near future in several areas of applications as: nanocatalysis, nanooptoeletronic and nanomedicine.
