Estudou-se o efeito de diferentes embalagens de polietileno em figos cv. Roxo de Valinhos, sob condições de frigoconservação. Os frutos colhidos no início do estádio de maturação, foram limpos e selecionados, sendo após embalados em filmes plásticos de polietileno de diferentes espessuras, constituindo assim os tratamentos: 1(controle), 2 - PEBD com 6 µm de espessura, 3 - PEBD com 10 µm de espessura, 4 - PEBD com 15 µm de espessura, 5 - PEBD com 22 µm de espessura. Os frutos foram então armazenados em câmara fria com temperatura de -- 0,5 °C e 85-90 % de UR, por oito dias. As análises foram realizadas diariamente, avaliando-se os seguintes parâmetros: perda de massa fresca, aspecto visual, firmeza de polpa, sólidos solúveis totais (SST), acidez total titulável (ATT) e relação SST/ATT. Ao final, verificou-se que os frutos embalados em PEBD de 22 µm apresentaram maior firmeza de polpa, melhor aspecto visual, menores teores de sólidos solúveis totais, maiores níveis de acidez total titulável e menores valores na relação SST/ATT, quando comparados aos demais tratamentos. No parâmetro perda de massa fresca, todos os tratamentos foram estatisticamente superiores ao controle.

O presente trabalho objetivou-se na caracterização físico-química de mangas cv. Tommy Atkins e Haden, submetidas ao controle da ação do etileno, através da exposição dos frutos à ação de adsorvedores de etileno. Os frutos colhidos em estádio de fisiologicamente maturos foram embalados em filmes de polietileno de baixa densidade (PEBD) de 0,006 mm de espessura, com ou sem o sachê de adsorção de etileno, e acondicionados em embalagens de papelão (0,65 x 0,52 m), sem o controle da temperatura e da umidade relativa (30 ± 3 ºC e 70 ± 5 % de U.R.). Os tratamentos ficaram constituídos dessa maneira: T1 - mangas cv. Tommy Atkins, com o sachê de adsorção; T2 - mangas cv. Tommy Atkins, sem o sachê de adsorção; T3- mangas cv. Haden com o sachê de adsorção, e T4 - mangas cv Haden sem o sachê de adsorção. As análises de firmeza de polpa, sólidos solúveis (SS), acidez titulável (AT), pH, ácido ascórbico e concentração de etileno foram realizadas na instalação do experimento (dia 0), e aos 7; 14; 21; 28 e 35 dias; e aos 35 dias foi realizado um teste de preferência. Ao final do experimento, observou-se que, em ambas as cultivares, a menor concentração de etileno nas embalagens, a maior firmeza de polpa, a maior contenção no avanço e na diminuição do SS e AT, respectivamente, bem como a melhor manutenção do conteúdo de ácido ascórbico foram detectadas nos frutos acondicionados em embalagens contendo o sachê de adsorção de etileno. Não foram detectadas variações significativas nos valores de pH. No teste de preferência, houve variação significativa, onde os frutos acondicionados sob ação do adsorvedor de etileno foram preferidos por parte dos julgadores.

Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) was characterised for its dielectric and electrical properties before and after chemical treatment. A reduction in the permittivity and dielectric loss was observed in the polymer after treatment with hexane. The intensity in the Raman Spectrum in the disordered longitudinal acoustic mode region (DLAM) also was reduced due to a hexane treatment. Using thermally stimulated discharge current (TSDC) and laser-intensity-modulated method (LIMM) techniques it was observed that charge injection can be enhanced in the polymer matrix in the empty sites, created by the removal of the low molecular weight impurities with chemical treatment. Catalytic processes are widely present in everyday life. This results in large number of studies seeking materials that may combine the low cost catalytic efficiency. Based on this assumption, the clays have long been used as catalysts, with its huge availability, diversity and possibility of improving their properties from structural changes, primarily responsible for this great use. Among the natural clays, vermiculite due to their characteristic properties (high cation exchange capacity and expansion), is suitable for various applications including as catalysts and catalyst supports. In this work, the acid leaching of clay vermiculite was performed, coming from Santa Luzia-PB, with nitric acid (2, 3 and 4 mol / L) and subsequent calcination of the materials obtained. The materials were named as Vx/400, where x is the acid concentration employed and 400 used in calcination temperature. The effectiveness of changes made was determined by XRD techniques, FT-IR, EDS, TG/DTG, nitrogen physisorption and DTP of n-butylamine. Acid leaching has improved some properties of the clay - specific area and acidity - but the control of the acid concentration used is of vital importance, since the highest concentration caused the partial destruction of vermiculite entailing a decline in their properties. For analysis of the catalytic activity of the modified clay was made a comparative study with the SBA -15 mesoporous materials, synthesized via hydrothermal method, using the pyrolysis of low density polyethylene (LDPE). The results showed that the acid plays a fundamental role in the conversion of the polymer into smaller molecules, the material V3/400 was more selective for the source monomer (ethylene) due to their increased acidity, which promotes more breaks bonds in the polymeric chain, while materials and V0/400 V2/400, lower acidity, showed higher selectivity to light hydrocarbons, the range of fuel (41.96 and 41.23%, respectively), due to less breakage and secondary condensation reactions chains; already V4/400 SBA-15/550 and resulted in lower percentages of light hydrocarbons and the partial destruction of the structure and low acidity, respectively, responsible for the inefficiency of materials

The chemical recycling of polyolefins has been the focus of increasing attention owing potential application as a fuel and as source chemicals. The use of plastic waste contributes to the solution of pollution problems.The use of catalysts can enhance the thermal degradation of synthetic polymers, which may be avaliated by Themogravimetry (TG) and mass spectrometry (MS) combined techniques. This work aims to propose alternatives to the chemistry recycling of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) on mesoporous silica type SBA-15 and AlSBA-15.The mesoporous materials type SBA-15 and AlSBA-15 were synthesized through the hydrothermal method starting from TEOS, pseudobohemite, cloridric acid HCl and water. As structure template was used Pluronic P123. The syntheses were accomplished during the period of three days. The best calcination conditions for removal of the organic template (P123) were optimized by thermal analysis (TG/DTG) and through analyses of Xray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), nitrogen adsorption and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was verified that as much the hydrothermal synthesis method as the calcination by TG were promising for the production of mesoporous materials with high degree of hexagonal ordination. The general analysis of the method of Analog Scan was performed at 10oC/min to 500 oC to avoid deterioration of capillary with very high temperatures. Thus, with the results, we observed signs mass/charge more evident and, using the MID method, was obtained curve of evolution of these signals. The addition of catalysis produced a decrease in temperature of polymer degradation proportional to the acidity of the catalyst. The results showed that the mesoporous materials contributed to the formation of compounds of lower molecular weight and higher value in the process of catalytic degradation of LDPE, representing an alternative to chemical recycling of solid waste

Fresh cut cassava is an alternative to prolong roots commercialization period, adding value to the raw material and assisting the consumer's needs that seeks for products of easy preparation. The aim of this work was to evaluate the quality of fresh cut cassava subjected to gamma radiation. For processing cassava roots (IAC - 567-70) were used, after preparation were packed in expanded polystyrene (EPS) trays, covered by low density polyethylene (LDPE) plastic film, being subjected to gamma radiation in the doses 0 (control), 0.5; 1.0; 1.5; 2.0 KGy. Another treatment was also carried out in which roots were vacuum packed in nylon + polyethylene. Packed roots of all treatments were stored under refrigeration (5 +/- 1 degrees C) and evaluations were made after 0, 3, 6, 9 and 12 days. Evaluated analyses were: titrable acidity, pH, firmness, coloration, polyphenoloxidase activity, cooking time and roots hydration percentage. Evaluations just proceeded until the nine storage day, because after this period the roots already presented visually detectable physiologic and microbiological alterations. For titrable acidity, the vacuum packed roots had the lowest values, followed by the control packed in trays. For the other treatments, values of acidity increased and influenced the pH values. For the other appraised parameters there was no significant difference among treatments, but alterations were observed with the storage. The firmness decreased with the storage. Brightness values and yellow color component decreased with the storage and the b * (green) color values increased. Polyphenoloxidase activity was maximum in the day of elaboration of the product and it decreased with the storage. Cooking time and roots hydration percentage decreased with the roots storage.

Estudaram-se o efeito de diferentes tipos de embalagens e a ação do dióxido de enxofre (SO2) na conservação pós-colheita de uvas finas de mesa var. Crimson Seedless e Itália. Os frutos, colhidos em propriedade agrícola situada no município de Boa Vista-RR (Lat. 2º 50' 06 N e Long. 60º 40' 28 W), apresentavam, no momento da colheita, sólidos solúveis (SS) médios de 16,50 e 14,80°Brix, para as variedades Crimson Seedless e Itália, respectivamente. Antes da confecção dos tratamentos, os cachos foram higienizados em solução de hipoclorito de sódio (NaOCl) a 100 mg.L-1, previamente acidificada, por dez minutos. Utilizaram-se, para a atmosfera modificada passiva, sacolas de polietileno de baixa densidade (PEBD), sem perfuração, com 0,010; 0,015 e 0,020mm de espessura,e acondicionadas em embalagens secundárias de papelão (4kg) e de madeira (7,5kg). Para a geração do SO2, foram utilizados papéis Kraft de liberação rápida, com 3 e 8g de metabissulfito de sódio (Na2S2O5). Após a confecção dos tratamentos, os frutos foram armazenados em câmara frigorífica a 4 ± 1°C e 95 ± 3% de umidade relativa (U.R.). As avaliações foram realizadas no momento da colheita e, 7; 21; 35; 42 e 56 dias de armazenamento refrigerado, quanto à porcentagem de perda de massa fresca, taxa de desgrana e de bagas deterioradas, qualidade do engaço e teor de SS dos frutos. Após oito semanas, foi realizado teste de preferência para as duas variedades. Verificou-se, em ambas as variedades, que as uvas submetidas à ação do gerador de SO2 , contendo 3g de metabissulfito de sódio e acondicionamento em embalagens de PEBD de 0,020mm de espessura, independentemente do tipo de embalagem secundária, apresentaram a menor perda de massa fresca, menor taxa de desgrana e de bagas deterioradas, e melhor qualidade do engaço. Os resultados da análise sensorial concordaram com os resultados das análises físico-químicas. Não foram detectadas diferenças nos teores de SS entre os tratamentos, em ambas as variedades. The present work had evaluated the efficiency of the pasteurization and the use of preservatives in mangos pulps (Mangifera indica L.) refrigerated. Before carrying out the treatments, the fruits had been cleaned in solution of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) at 100 mg. L(-1), for 10 minutes. After the processing, it was carried out through the adjustment of pH of pulps for 3.0 and the adjustment of the water activity (W(a)) at 0.95. The used variable had been the branching (hot water at 95 +/- 5 degrees C, for 0 and I minute), the addition of sodium benzoate in the concentrations of 0; 200 and 500 mL.L(-1) and, sulfite dioxide (SO(2)) in 0, 100 and 200 mL.L(-1). Then the pulps had been packed in low density polyethylene (LDPE) bags of 0,060 mm (0.10 x 0.12 m - without free space and content of 500g of pulp) and, conditioned in at 20 +/- 1 degrees C e 80 +/- 3% of R.H, for 28 days. At the end of the experiment, the treatments not submitted to the branching had shown the biggest ascorbic acid levels. However, in these same treatments had been noticed intense microbiological activity and raised levels of pH. There aren't significant differences between the tested treatments in the titratable acidity (TA) and soluble solids (SS) analyses. Due to the absence of black spot in the pulps used during all the experimental period, it couldn't be detected the differences between the application of the SO(2) and the use of the branching. The lower index of microbiological contamination and the preference of the judges in the sensorial panel had been attributed to the submitted treatments to the branching, addition of 500mL.L(-1) of sodium benzoate and addition of 200mL.L(-1) of sulfite dioxide.

Mangoes cv. Keitt were individually sealed in a heat-shrinkable polyolefin film (D-955) and a low-density polyethylene film (LDPE), stored for 0-5 weeks at 12°C and 17°C, and then ripened unwrapped at 22°C. Weight loss of packaged mangoes was significantly lower than that of the non-wrapped control. A sensory panel ranked the mangoes for overall eating quality and appearance. D-955 and LDPE film-sealed mangoes and control had shelf lives of 33, 15 and 7 days at 12°C and 17,10 and 7 days at 17°C, respectively.
