Para se realizar a técnica da quimigação é necessário que o sistema de irrigação possua um injetor para incorporar os produtos na água de irrigação. Dentre os métodos existentes, o que tem se destacado nos últimos anos é o injetor do tipo Venturi. Essa preferência tem sido motivada pela sua simplicidade, por não possuir peças móveis e ser de baixo custo. Apesar dessas vantagens, o uso do injetor Venturi, assim como os demais injetores, necessita de dispositivos de segurança que minimizem o risco de contaminação ambiental. Neste trabalho, objetivou-se analisar a influência da válvula de retenção na taxa de injeção de água de um injetor do tipo Venturi instalado em pivô central e seu rendimento. O dispositivo de injeção era constituído de um injetor Venturi de 1,5 polegadas associado a uma motobomba centrífuga de 2,2 kW. O equipamento foi instalado na base do pivô central. Foram tomados tempos de esvaziamento de um reservatório de volume de 20 litros. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, sendo realizadas dez repetições em cada situação avaliada, ou seja, injetor equipado com válvula de retenção e sem a presença da mesma. Aplicou-se a análise de variância, seguida do teste de Tukey. Concluiu-se que a presença de válvula de retenção em injetores do tipo Venturi não influenciou de forma significativa as taxas de injeção e o rendimento, tendo este último apresentado valores da ordem de 10%.

This study aimed to evaluate the potential of CH4 and CO2 in vitro production of soybean hulls, sunflower meal, corn, citrus pulp and corn silage. Four rumen-cannulated sheep were fed diets containing the evaluated ingredients at 40:60 forage:concentrate ratio. The gases produced by samples incubation were measured by injection into a gas chromatograph equipped with flame ionization detector. The experimental design was completely randomized with repeated measures, with three replicates for each evaluated food at four different periods. Under the experimental conditions, we verified different potential gas production among the ingredients. The citrus pulp meal was the ingredient with the greatest potential for CO2production. Corn silage and soybean hulls showed the greatest potential while citrus pulp and sunflower meal showed the least potential for CH4 production, when expressed in mL/g of degraded dry matter; therefore, they can be considered, among the evaluated ingredients, those with the lowest environmental impact.

Oil is a hydrocarbon mixture of various sizes, including saturated and aromatic compounds. Natural gas is a mixture of gaseous hydrocarbons and its main component is methane. In our society, the great demand for these fuels requires fast extraction, transportation and refining, increasing the number of accidents that compromise the environment. Oil is a finite resource and it is necessary to reduce the problems related to the question concerning environmental pollution which has encouraged the search for alternative fuel sources in our country. So today we have two major biofuels: ethanol and biodiesel. Concurrently, many studies have been done directed toward the isolation of microorganisms capable of degrading petrochemical industrial wastes, most of them using as a source of isolation soil and water collected in a contaminated environment. Isolation from alternative substrates has emerged as a new strategy that has provided satisfactory results. In this work, we present the leaf-cutter ants of the Attini tribe as a source for the isolation of micro-fungi with the potential for hydrocarbon degradation. These insects have a social way of life and a highly specialized system of intra and interspecific communication, which is based on the recognition of individuals through volatile chemical compounds, the majority hydrocarbons, stored in their exoskeleton. The micro-environment exoskeleton of Attini ants (genus Atta) used in this work proved to be a rich source of microbial biodiversity, as other studies have found. The flotation isolation technique applied here allowed the achievement of 214 micro-fungi, 118 representatives of the dematiaceous fungi group and 96 hyaline filamentous fungi. O estudo do conteúdo de foraminíferos de 8 amostras de sedimentos superficiais coletados em manguezal do norte da Ilha do Cardoso, sul do Estado de São Paulo, no verão (período chuvoso) de 2001, ao longo de um transecto no sentido da Baía de Trapandé para o interior, revelou dois segmentos distintos: a) uma planície inferior lamosa, com menor tempo de exposição sub-aérea e maior diversidade específica, dominada por Ammotiumcassis, A.salsum, Arenoparrella mexicana e Trochamminainflata, com abundância expressiva de Caroniaexilis na parte mais baixa e de Miliammina fusca na parte mais alta; b) uma planície superior arenosa, com maior tempo de exposição sub-aérea e menor diversidade, dominada por M. fusca e com abundância expressiva de T. inflatana parte mais baixa. Os sedimentos investigados são colonizados por foraminíferos exclusivamente aglutinantes, representados por 21 espécies de 16 gêneros. Dados de abundância relativa, riqueza, diversidade e equitatividade das espécies ao longo do transecto são apresentados, bem como os valores de salinidade, pH, oxigênio dissolvido e temperatura, medidos a partir da água intersticial dos sedimentos no momento da coleta das amostras. São feitas comparações com um estudo anterior, similar, que focalizou amostras coletadas, nos mesmos pontos, no inverno (período seco) de 2002. The biomass gasification systems have been used for a long time and prove to be a good alternative to the generation of energy problems. This type of management requires a simple installation and maintenance which gives them a high availability. In Biomass project via Call CTEnerg 33/2006-1, funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology - MCT - Brazil, the Group Energy Systems Optimization – GOSE - at FEG - UNESP built and tested two prototypes of gasifiers. These is fed with 25 kg / h of dry wood (chips), and 50 Nm3 / h of air to produce gas at a flow rate of approximately 70 Nm3 / h of wood (syngas) at a temperature approximately 600 ° C. In this work of graduation, studies were conducted on the materials used in both the gasifier as well as cleaning the filter synthesis gases. The system of gas cleaning and conditioning is vital to ensure the life of the Internal Combustion Engine. In this case the studies of different filters for small gasification systems (properties, materials used, characteristics, types, etc.) are very relevant to its use in the prototype of the college campus. Were also performed a technical and economic analysis of a cogeneration system that consists in the combination of the downdraft gasifier studied in this work, an internal combustion engine, two heat exchangers and a SRA (absorption system refrigerator). The anaerobic treatment of sewage is widely employed in Brazil and it is an appreciated way for the treatment of effluents, helping to reduce the environmental impact in rivers. The methane gas obtained from the process can be applied to improve the energetic efficiency of the system, reducing the amount of waste and the cost of the treatment process. This work presents the net energy balance of anaerobic reactors applied to the treatment of sewage. The analysis was performed considering full-scale and laboratory-scale treatment systems. In laboratory scale, the results from three kinds of systems were compared regarding the biological treatment of greywater. Two of them (UASB7 and UASB12) were anaerobic and the other one was a combined anaerobic-aerobic system (UASB7/SBR6). Greywater methanization (compared to theoretical maximum) was calculated considering 100% removal (g BOD/day), the literature percentage removal and the anionic surfactant presence in the effluentt. For each of these three cases, the efficiencies were, respectively, 16.9%, 43.6% and 51.3% in UASB7 reactor, 25.6%, 50.3% and 59.2% in UASB12 reactor and 30.6%, 61.2% and 71.9% in UASB7/SBR6 reactor. The energetic potential was found to be 4.66x10-4, 7.77x10-4 and 5.12x10-4 kWh/L for the UASB7, UASB12 and UASB7/SBR6 reactors, respectively. The pumping system, the aeration (in the anaerobic-aerobic system) and the temperature controlled heating system were considered to calculate the energetic consumption. However, the third one was not employed since tropical regions like Brazil do not need heating systems and also because of its high energetic consumption. The calculated net energy balance in the reactors was negative in the case of greywater, respectively -0.16, -0.28 and -0.18 kWh/L for the reactors UASB7, UASB12 and UASB7/SRB6. As espécies reativas de oxigênio podem participar de mecanismos envolvidos em respostas fisiológicas, como os efeitos hipertensores e dipsogênicos da angiotensina II (ANG II) central, que seriam pelo menos em parte devidos a produção de radical superóxido (O2 −). Por isso, uma superexpressão da enzima superóxido dismutase que reduz a disponibilidade de O2 − convertendo-o em peróxido de hidrogênio (H2O2) inibiria o efeito pressor da ANG II administrada centralmente. Porém, alguns resultados de nosso laboratório demonstram que H2O2 injetado intracerebroventricularmente (icv) reduz a ingestão de água induzida pela ANG II em ratos normotensos. Portanto, no presente trabalho propomos estudar os efeitos de injeções de H2O2 ou de ATZ (inibidor da catalase) sozinhos ou combinados no ventrículo lateral (VL) e também os efeitos do ATZ injetado intravenosamente (i.v.) sozinho ou combinado com H2O2 no VL sobre a resposta pressora da ANG II também injetada no VL em ratos normotensos, espontaneamente hipertensos (SHRs) ou em ratos com hipertensão renovascular do tipo 2 rins 1 clipe (2R1C). Foram utilizados ratos Holtzman normotensos, SHRs e ratos com hipertensão renovascular 2R1C com cânulas de aço inoxidável previamente implantadas no VL. A pressão arterial e a freqüência cardíaca foram registradas em sistema computadorizado diretamente da aorta em ratos não anestesiados por uma cânula de polietileno introduzida pela artéria femoral e a injeção i.v. foi realizada por meio de uma cânula de polietileno introduzida na veia femoral. A pressão arterial e freqüência cardíaca foram registradas continuamente desde 30 minutos antes da primeira injeção (veículo, salina, H2O2 ou ATZ) até 30 minutos após a injeção de ANG II. This study aims to prove the economic feasibility of the installation of mechanical compression chillers on plastic injection molding machines in order to reduce the production cycle time of toothbrush cables in a specific case study. This evidence was confirmed by the comparative analysis of the system replaced and the new system installed. The old system had only one closed loop cooling tower which pumped chilled water to the injection molds, and the new system has the same tower sending cold water to the condensers of individual chillers installed on each injection machine. We conducted an analysis of energy efficiency in each system, showing that in terms of thermal efficiency virtually nothing has changed, but in terms of electricity demand the new system consumes 60.3 kW more. We conducted an analysis of machine productivity for both systems, showing a much higher productivity of the new system due to reduced cycle times caused by the presence of chillers and their greater cooling capacities. Equipped with data such as electricity rates, increases in operating costs and initial investments, the increase in consumption and demand of electricity plus the cycle time reduction were also calculated over so the simple payback 1 year and 2 months was reached

A área septal medial (ASM), situada no prosencéfalo, está envolvida na regulação cardiovascular e no controle do balanço hidroeletrolítico. Esta área é rica em receptores colinérgicos e a ativação dos mesmos induz ingestão de água, natriurese e antidiurese. A ASM também envia projeções aos núcleos paraventricular (NPV) supra-óptico (NSO), os quais contêm os neurônios que secretam vasopressina e ocitocina. Existem evidências experimentais demonstrando que as espécies reativas de oxigênio podem participar do controle de respostas fisiológicas. Resultados recentes de nosso laboratório demonstraram que uma espécie reativa de oxigênio, o peróxido de hidrogênio (H2O2), injetado no ventrículo lateral (VL) reduz a ingestão de água e a resposta pressora induzida por ANG II e carbacol (agonista colinérgico) também injetados no VL. Por isso, o presente estudo teve como objetivo estudar os efeitos da injeção de H2O2 na ASM sobre a ingestão de água, sobre a excreção renal de água e eletrólitos e sobre a expressão da proteína c-Fos no NSO produzidos pela injeção de carbacol também na ASM. Para realizar este trabalho, foram utilizados ratos com cânulas de aço inoxidável implantadas na ASM. A ingestão de água e a excreção renal de água e eletrólitos foram estudadas em ratos que receberam injeções de H2O2 (5 mol/0,5 μl) ou PBS (veículo, 0,5 l) na ASM e, após um minuto, injeção de carbacol (4 nmol/0,5 l) ou salina (NaCl 0,15 M / 0,5 l) também na ASM. A ingestão de água induzida pelo carbacol, através da estimulação colinérgica, foi menor nos ratos que receberam a injeção prévia de peróxido de hidrogênio (8 ± 2,0 ml / 1 h, p<0,05) comparado àqueles que receberam veículo, também na ASM (16,6 ± 1,9 ml / 1 h, p<0,05). The purpose of this work was to define the processes through which the cooling of thermoplastics parts occur inside the mold cavity in an injection process. The plastic materials have become more widespread in the automobile industry and, among its manufacturing processes, injection moulding develops quickly, allowing the manufacturing of quality parts in great volumes. Data was collected from the injection of Volkswagen Gol NF 23X (Gol Generation 5). Using approximated methods for calculation for the heat Exchange inside the mould, in the cooling system, the required water flow was determined to properly cool the parts. Comparing the obtained value with Project specifications, it was verified that the method, in spite of incurring in some mistakes, is efficient in determining the flow of cooling fluid and serves as a verification tool for the parameters defined on project, and can be applied to simple projects. The definition of the cooling system, in practice, is dependent on innumerable variables and each case must be approached in itself, since the parameters for one product may not be ideal for another

The gas turbine (GT) is known to have: low cost of capital over the amount of energy, high flexibility, high reliability, short delivery time, commissioning and commercial operation at the beginning and quick departure. The gas turbine is also recognized for its superior environmental performance, manifested in air pollution containment and reducing greenhouse gases (Mahi, 1994). Gas turbines in simple cycle mode (SC) have long been used by utilities to limited power generation peak. In addition, manufacturing facilities use gas turbines for power generation units on site, often in combination with the process of heat production, such as hot water and steam process. In recent years, the performance of industrial gas turbines has been improved due to significant investments in research and development, in terms of fuel to electricity conversion efficiency, plant capacity, availability and reliability. The greater availability of energy resources such as natural gas (NG), the significant reduction of capital costs and the introduction of advanced cycles, have also been a success factor for the increased use of gas turbines to load applications base (Poulikas, 2004). Open Cycle Gas Turbine with a greater degree of heat to the atmosphere may alternatively be used to produce additional electricity using a steam cycle, or to compose a cogeneration process. The combined cycle (CC) uses the heat from the gas turbine exhaust gas to increase the power output and increase the overall efficiency of more than 50% second (Najjar, 2001). The initial discovery of these cycles in the commercial power generation market was possible due to the development of the gas turbine. Indiscriminate and inappropriate use of pesticides in agriculture has been pointed out for increasing health problems and environmental damage. Considering that water resources are the principal destiny of those compounds after application, the present study presents optimization and validation of two simple and effi cient analytical methods for pesticides quantifi cation in both surface and groundwater. Were selected the pesticides more commonly used at Dourados (MS - Brazil), region with intense agricultural activity. Pesticides were preconcentrated by solid-phase extraction using C18 (500 mg) cartridges and then divided in two groups for elution and quantifi cation: 2.4-D and 2.4-DCP were eluted with methanol and quantifi ed by high performance liquid chromatography with ultra-violet detector (HPLC-UV) while atrazine, DIA, DEA, trifl uralin and methyl parathion were eluted with ethylacetate (1:1, v/v) and quantifi ed by gas chromatography with thermionic specifi c detector (GC-TSD). The methods showed satisfactory accuracy (76-107%) and precision (<12%) for the substances analyzed at the fortifi ed levels selected for the study, except for DIA (<51%). Study of pesticide stability also presented good results: C18 cartridges could be stored for at least for 21 days at -20ºC with no signs of the compounds degradability. Both methods limits of quantifi cation of the pesticides (0.22 - 0.48 μg L-1) are in accordance to the levels currently established by the Brazilian national legislation for pesticides in water. Although only the pesticide 2.4-D has been detected in two distinct collection points in the study period of time, this work warns for the requirement of systematical analysis of pesticides presence in water destined to human consume, principally in areas of intense agriculture activity. Such monitoring can provide subsidies for public environmental policies.

The goal of this work was to develop a strawberry fl avored dairy beverages carbonated and fermented with potential probiotic bacteria. Four formulations of dairy beverages were elaborated: Control (BL); Fermented (BLF); Carbonated (BLC) and Carbonated Fermented (BLFC). In samples submitted for carbonation, a carbonator was used for the carbon dioxide (CO2 ) gas injection dissolved in drinking water and the cultivation consisting of lactic bacteria Lactobacillus acidophilusLA-5®, Bifi dobacterium BB-12® and Streptococcus thermophilus (Biorich, Chr. Hansen) was employed on the fermented samples. The samples were characterized by physical and chemical, microbiological and sensory parameters. The BLC sample showed the presence of yeasts and coliform counts, but the counts indicated that it was suitable for consumption in 28 days time. The BL presented average coliform counts above the limit established by the law after 21 days of refrigerated storage. The presence of lactic bacteria and CO2 and their effects on lower proteolysis indexes, lower pH values and higher acidity values were correlated with signifi cant inhibitory effect of contaminated microorganisms in the BLF and BLFC. The carbonation was not stimulatory for the growth of lactic crops, mainly in the genus Bifi dobacterium spp. and Streptococcus spp. The BLF drink presented greater sensory acceptance and purchase intention test results, however the carbonated beverage presented positive results, with mean values greater than 50% in the acceptance tests with potential inclusion as sensory differential in dairy beverages. Just BLFC drink was considered potentially probiotic, by presenting minimum counts of Lactobacillus spp. during storage. Further studies should be conducted with the technology of carbonation, since it has been proven the correlation of the presence of CO2 with inhibitory effect of contaminated microorganisms and lower physical and chemical changes of dairy beverages.
