Le cancer du sein est une maladie multifactorielle, plusieurs facteurs socio-économiques, alimentaires ainsi que le style de vie ayant été incriminés dans son développement. Une mutation germinale sur un des gènes BRCA1 ou BRCA2 serait responsable d’une augmentation du risque de développer un cancer du sein de 50 à 80% chez les femmes porteuses d’une mutation sur BRCA1 ou BRCA2 par comparaison aux non- porteuses. Plusieurs études rapportant l’existence d’une association entre la fréquence des cancers du sein sporadiques, les habitudes alimentaires et le style de vie des femmes atteintes, ceci, nous a amené à nous interroger sur le rôle que pourrait jouer ces mêmes facteurs chez les femmes porteuses d’une mutation sur BRCA1 ou BRCA2. Pour répondre à cette question, nous avons effectué une étude cas-témoin. Nos quarante-quatre cas sont porteuses d’une mutation germinale parmi 6 des 14 mutations fondatrices sur BRCA1 et BRCA2 les plus fréquentes dans la population Canadienne Française. Elles sont issues d’une cohorte de plus de 1000 femmes Canadiennes Françaises atteintes de cancers du sein recrutées depuis 1994 et testées pour ces 6 mutations. Les témoins sont recrutés parmi des femmes de la population Canadienne Française, également porteuses d’une de ces six mutations fondatrices de BRCA1 ou BRCA2, mais indemnes de cancers. Quinze d’entre elles ont été recrutées dans les familles des cas de l’étude initiale. Vingt-neuf ont été recrutées à la clinique des cancers familiaux du CHUM, nous permettant ainsi de totaliser 44 témoins. Deux questionnaires ont été administrés aux cas et aux témoins. Le premier, dit Questionnaire de base, a servi à recenser les informations sociodémographiques et le style de vie, couvrant ainsi les deux années précédant la découverte du cancer du sein pour les cas et les deux années précédant la découverte de la mutation pour les témoins. Le deuxième questionnaire, Questionnaire de nutrition, a permis de colliger les informations sur les habitudes alimentaires durant la même période de recueil de données. Une association positive et significative entre le risque de cancer du sein et le niveau d’éducation a été observé parmi les sujets de niveau universitaire (>14 années d’étude) comparés aux sujets n’ayant pas dépassé le niveau d’études secondaires (<11 années d’études) [OR= 7,82; IC95% : (1,99-30,69); p=0,003]. Nous avons mis en évidence que le risque de cancer du sein augmentait lorsque les sujets atteignaient leur poids maximum à un âge avancé > 48 ans [OR = 4,27 ; IC 95% : (0,82-22,25)]. Nous avons montré que le risque du cancer du sein diminuait pour une durée d’allaitement supérieure à 7 mois par comparaison aux femmes n’ayant jamais allaité [OR= 0,35; IC 95% : (0,12-1,06)] mais cette association est non significative. Les porteuses qui pratiquent plus de 22,45 Met-h-sem d’activité physique modérée, comparativement à celles qui pratiquent moins de 11,45 Met-h-sem voient leur risque de cancer du sein diminué de 72% [OR=0,28- IC 95% : (0,08-0,95); p=0,04]. Celles qui pratiquent plus de 31,95 Met-h-sem d’activité physique totale comparativement à celles qui pratiquent moins de 16,40 Met-h-sem voient leur risque de cancer du sein réduit de 79 % [OR=0,21; IC 95% : (0,06-0,75); p= 0,02]. L’analyse des macro et micronutriments et des groupes alimentaires a démontré qu’une consommation de plus de 23,20 g/j d’acide gras monoinsaturés est responsable d’une augmentation du risque de cancer du sein de 6 fois par comparaison à une consommation inférieure à 17,08 g/j [OR=6,00; IC 95% : (0,97-37,02); p=0,05]. Une consommation de plus de 221,79 µg/j de vitamine K réduit le risque du cancer du sein de 83 % par comparaison à une consommation inférieure à 143,57 µg/j [OR= 0,17; IC95% : (0,05-0,61) ; p=0,007]. La consommation de fruits est associée à une réduction du risque de cancer du sein de 73% chez les porteuses de mutations qui en consomment plus de 563,31 g/j comparée à celles qui en consomment moins de 356,18 g/j [OR= 0,27; IC 95% : (0,07-1,01) ; p=0,05]. Nos résultats confortent l’hypothèse selon laquelle le style de vie et les habitudes alimentaires jouent un rôle dans le développement du cancer du sein chez les Canadiennes Françaises porteuses de mutations d’une des 6 mutations fondatrices de BRCA1 ou 2 étudiées. En effet, un niveau d’éducation élevé, un gain de poids sont associés à un risque élevé de développer un cancer du sein. De plus la pratique de l’allaitement et d’une activité physique modérée sont associées à une réduction de ce risque. Nous montrons aussi que la consommation d’acides gras monoinsaturés est responsable d’une augmentation du risque de ce cancer et que la consommation de vitamine K et de fruits permet de réduire ce risque. Nos résultats ouvrent une nouvelle voie de recherche par rapport au rôle de certains nutriments dans le développement du cancer du sein chez les porteuses de mutation d’un des gènes BRCA. Cette voie pourrait également être explorée chez les non porteuses.

Introduction : Cette étude visait à explorer les déterminants des choix alimentaires de jeunes hommes gais. L’objectif secondaire était d’explorer la perception des hommes gais à l’égard du comportement alimentaire des hommes hétérosexuels. Méthode : Une méthode qualitative s’appuyant sur la prise de photographies et d’entrevues individuelles semi-dirigées a été utilisée. Résultats : Onze hommes gais de 21 à 25 ans et habitant en appartement dans la région de Montréal ont participé à l’étude. L’apparence corporelle, la santé et la nutrition sont des facteurs très influents de leur comportement alimentaire. Les hommes de la cohorte soutiennent la perception que ces facteurs n’influencent pas aussi fortement le comportement alimentaire des hommes hétérosexuels. Ils sont de grands consommateurs de cuisine hors domicile. Plusieurs d’entre eux limitent leur consommation de viande, un aliment qu’ils considèrent masculin et fortement lié aux hommes hétérosexuels. Conclusion : Le comportement alimentaire des jeunes hommes de cette cohorte est influencé par plusieurs facteurs qui ne sont habituellement pas associés aux hommes, dont l’apparence corporelle, la santé et la nutrition. Ils sont au fait de cette dichotomie en se comparant à leurs proches hétérosexuels. Si les professionnels de la santé négligent ces facteurs, ils risquent de passer à côté de leviers d’intervention efficaces.

Des méthodes d’évaluation de la consommation alimentaire permettant de vérifier l’efficacité de la diète méditerranéenne en prévention des maladies cardiovasculaires doivent être validées. Objectif: Évaluer la fiabilité et la validité d’un questionnaire de fréquence alimentaire (QF) semi-quantitatif permettant de mesurer l’alimentation dans le cadre d’études cliniques portant sur la diète méditerranéenne dans la population québécoise. Méthodologie: Cinquante-trois participants ont été recrutés. Le QF a été complété à deux reprises pour évaluer la fiabilité et comparé à un journal alimentaire (JA) de 12 jours pour évaluer la validité. Résultats: Pour la fiabilité, les coefficients de corrélation intra-classe (CCI) variaient de 0.38-0.91. Pour la validité, les coefficients de corrélation de Pearson (r) entre le JA et le QF pré-JA variaient de 0.26-0.84 et les CCI variaient de 0.25-0.84. Quant au JA et QF post-JA, les r variaient de 0.36-0.83 et les CCI de 0.36-0.83. Conclusion: Le QF présente une bonne fiabilité et validité pour l’énergie et la majorité des nutriments caractéristiques de la diète méditerranéenne.

The age and growth, length – weight relationship and relative condition factor of Gerres filamentosus (Cuvier, 1829) from Kodungallur, Azhikode Estuary were studied by examination of 396 specimens collected between May 2008 to October 2008. Here, length frequency method was used to study age and growth in fishes. L∞, K and t 0 obtained from seasonal and non - seasonal growth curves. Gerres filamentosus showed a low mortality rate (Z) 3.702 y-1. G. filamentosus has moderately low K value and long life span. The relation between the total length and weight of G. filamentosus was described as Log W = 1.321+2.5868 log L for males, Log W = 1.467 + 2.7227 log L for females and Log W = 1.481 + 2.7316 log L for sexes combined. The mean relative condition factor (Kn) values ranged from 0.9 to 1.14 for males, 0.89 to 1.11 for females and 0.73 to 1.08 for sexes combined. The length weight relationship and relative condition factor showed that the wellbeing of G. filamentosus were good. The morphometric measurements of various body parts were recorded. The morphometric measurements were found to be nonlinear and there is no significant difference observed between the two sexes.

Os vários estudos sobre a importância da água na fisiologia humana têm demonstrado que a quantidade de água presente nos alimentos e a produzida por via metabólica, não são suficientes para suprir as necessidades diárias deste nutriente. A água ingerida em função do reflexo da sede ou por vontade do próprio varia entre os indivíduos e, ao contrário de outros nutrientes fundamentais, não existe para a água uma definição clara sobre as necessidades diárias. Este facto pode ser parcialmente explicado pelo conjunto altamente sensível de adaptações neurofisiológicas que se fazem sentir com vista a manter a osmolaridade e a hidratação do organismo. Afim de avaliar a quantidade total de água consumida, os voluntários foram questionados sobre a quantidade de água/infusões/chás que consumiam diariamente. Com base num inquérito de frequência alimentar foi possível calcular o valor de 2,5l/dia consumo/conteúdo total de água da dieta da população em estudo. Os dados revelados pelo presente estudo, estão de acordo, com a literatura publicada, justificando o interesse no aprofundamento do tema, de modo a contribuir para o conhecimento sobre a importância da água no contexto dos nossos hábitos alimentares, na fisiologia normal.

Os vários estudos sobre a importância da água na Hidratação da pele humana vêm sugerindo que o aumento da ingestão de água pode ter um impacto positivo na fisiologia da pele normal. Mantendo os hábitos dietários, avaliados por Questionário de Frequência Alimentar e com base no consumo de água total , avaliámos as consequências do aumento de água bebida na bioimpedância e na hidratação da pele “in vivo”. Em dois grupos com diferentes consumos de água total, avaliamos, ao fim de um mês, o impacto do aumento do aporte de 2L/dia de água bebida. Este aumento não produziu alterações hemodinânicas ou ponderais. Os resultados sugerem uma melhoria da hidratação epidérmica. A magnitude do impacto sobre a hidratação cutânea é maior no grupo que Regularmente consome menos água, sugerindo que o aumento do consumo de água tem mais efeitos benéficos na saúde cutânea dos indivíduos que consomem menos água por dia. Estes dados estão de acordo, com a literatura publicada, justificando o interesse no aprofundamento do tema, de modo a contribuir para o conhecimento sobre a importância da água no contexto da fisiologia cutânea em especial no grupo de indivíduos com hábitos de menor consumo.

Although practitioner-prescribed 'western' herbal medicine (phytotherapy) is a popular complementary therapy in the UK, no clinical studies have been reported on patient-orientated outcomes. The objective of this pilot study was to investigate the effects of phytotherapy on symptoms of osteoarthritis of the knee. A previous study of Chinese herbal medicine for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association,(1) acted as a model in the development of the protocol of this investigation. Twenty adults, previously diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the knee, were recruited from two Inner London GP practices into this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, pilot study carried out in a primary-care setting. All subjects were seen in consultation three times by a herbal practitioner who was blinded to the randomization coding. Each subject was prescribed treatment and given lifestyle advice according to usual practice: continuation of conventional medication where applicable, healthy-eating advice and nutrient supplementation, Individualized herbal medicine was prescribed for each patient, but only dispensed for those randomized to active treatment - the remainder were supplied with a placebo. At baseline and outcome (after ten weeks of treatment), subjects completed a food frequency questionnaire and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) knee health and Measure Yourself Outcome Profile (MYMOP) wellbeing questionnaires. Subjects completing the study per protocol (n = 14) reported an increased intake of wholegrain foods (p = 0.045) and oily fish (p = 0.039) compared to baseline, but no increase in fruit and vegetables and dairy products intakes. There was no difference in the primary outcome measure of knee health assessed as the difference in the mean response (baseline-week 10) in WOMAC score between the two treatment groups. However, there was, compared with baseline, improvement in the active group (n = 9) for the mean WOMAC stiffness sub-score at week 5 (p = 0.035) and week 10 (p = 0.060) but not in the placebo group (n = 5). Furthermore, for the active, but not the placebo group, the mean WOMAC total and sub-scores all showed clinically significant improvement (>= 20%) in knee symptoms at weeks 5 and 10 compared with baseline. Moreover, the mean MYMOP symptom 2 sub-score, mostly relating to osteoarthritis (OA), showed significant improvement at week 5 (p = 0.02) and week 10 (p = 0.008) compared with baseline for the active, but not for the placebo group. This pilot study showed that herbal medicine prescribed for the individual by a herbal practitioner resulted in improvement of symptoms of OA of the knee.

Background and aims: Arterial stiffness is an independent predictor of cardiovascular disease (CVD) events and all-cause mortality and may be differentially affected by dietary fatty acid (FA) intake. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between FA consumption and arterial stiffness and blood pressure in a community-based population. Methods and results: The Caerphilly Prospective Study recruited 2398 men, aged 45-59 years, who were followed up at 5-year intervals for a mean of 17.8-years (n 787). A semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire estimated intakes of total, saturated, mono- and poly-unsaturated fatty acids (SFA, MUFA, PUFA). Multiple regression models investigated associations between intakes of FA at baseline with aortic pulse wave velocity (aPWV), augmentation index (AIx), systolic and diastolic blood pressure (SBP, DBP) and pulse pressure after a 17.8-year follow-up - as well as cross-sectional relationships with metabolic markers. After adjustment, higher SFA consumption at baseline was associated with higher SBP (P = 0.043) and DBP (P = 0.002) and after a 17.8-year follow-up was associated with a 0.51 m/s higher aPWV (P = 0.006). After adjustment, higher PUFA consumption at baseline was associated with lower SBP (P = 0.022) and DBP (P = 0.036) and after a 17.8-year follow-up was associated with a 0.63 m/s lower aPWV (P = 0.007). Conclusion: This study suggests that consumption of SFA and PUFA have opposing effects on arterial stiffness and blood pressure. Importantly, this study suggests that consumption of FA is an important risk factor for arterial stiffness and CVD.

Background: Stable-isotope ratios of carbon (13C/12C, expressed as δ13C) and nitrogen (15N/14N, or δ15N) have been proposed as potential nutritional biomarkers to distinguish between meat, fish, and plant-based foods. Objective: The objective was to investigate dietary correlates of δ13C and δ15N and examine the association of these biomarkers with incident type 2 diabetes in a prospective study. Design: Serum δ13C and δ15N (‰) were measured by using isotope ratio mass spectrometry in a case-cohort study (n = 476 diabetes cases; n = 718 subcohort) nested within the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC)–Norfolk population-based cohort. We examined dietary (food-frequency questionnaire) correlates of δ13C and δ15N in the subcohort. HRs and 95% CIs were estimated by using Prentice-weighted Cox regression. Results: Mean (±SD) δ13C and δ15N were −22.8 ± 0.4‰ and 10.2 ± 0.4‰, respectively, and δ13C (r = 0.22) and δ15N (r = 0.20) were positively correlated (P < 0.001) with fish protein intake. Animal protein was not correlated with δ13C but was significantly correlated with δ15N (dairy protein: r = 0.11; meat protein: r = 0.09; terrestrial animal protein: r = 0.12, P ≤ 0.013). δ13C was inversely associated with diabetes in adjusted analyses (HR per tertile: 0.74; 95% CI: 0.65, 0.83; P-trend < 0.001], whereas δ15N was positively associated (HR: 1.23; 95% CI: 1.09, 1.38; P-trend = 0.001). Conclusions: The isotope ratios δ13C and δ15N may both serve as potential biomarkers of fish protein intake, whereas only δ15N may reflect broader animal-source protein intake in a European population. The inverse association of δ13C but a positive association of δ15N with incident diabetes should be interpreted in the light of knowledge of dietary intake and may assist in identifying dietary components that are associated with health risks and benefits.

Background Whole grain (WG) foods have been suggested to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, but studies are inconsistent and effects on cardiovascular risk markers are not clear. Objective The objective of this study was to assess the impact of increasing WG consumption to at least 80 g/d on overall dietary intake, body composition, blood pressure (BP), blood lipids, blood glucose, gastrointestinal microbiology and gastrointestinal symptoms in healthy, middle-age adults with habitual WG intake < 24 g/d. The trial was registered as ISRCTN36521837. Methods Eligible subjects (12 men, 21 women, aged 40-65 y and BMI 20-35 kg/m2) were identified using food frequency questionnaires and subsequently completed 3-day food diaries (3DFD) to confirm habitual WG consumption. Subjects consumed diets high in WG (> 80 g/d) or low in WG (< 16 g/d, refined grain [RG] diet) in a crossover study, with 6-week intervention periods, separated by a 4-week washout. Adherence was achieved by specific dietary advice and provision of a range of cereal food products. The 3DFD, diet compliance diaries and plasma alkylresorcinols (ARs) were used to verify compliance. Results On the WG intervention, consumption increased from 28 g/d to 168 g/d (P < 0.001), accompanied by an increase in plasma ARs (P < 0.001) and total fiber intake (P < 0.001), without any effect on energy or other macronutrients. While there were no effects on studied parameters, there were trends towards increased 24 h fecal weight (P = 0.08) and reduction in body weight (P = 0.10) and BMI (P = 0.08) during the WG compared to the RG period. Conclusion A combination of dietary advice and provision of commercially available food items enabled subjects with a low-moderate habitual consumption of WG to substantially increase their WG intake, but there was little effect on blood biochemical parameters, body composition, BP, fecal measurements or gut microbiology.

Background Lifestyle factors such as diet and physical activity have been shown to modify the association between fat mass and obesity–associated (FTO) gene variants and metabolic traits in several populations; however, there are no gene-lifestyle interaction studies, to date, among Asian Indians living in India. In this study, we examined whether dietary factors and physical activity modified the association between two FTO single nucleotide polymorphisms (rs8050136 and rs11076023) (SNPs) and obesity traits and type 2 diabetes (T2D). Methods The study included 734 unrelated T2D and 884 normal glucose-tolerant (NGT) participants randomly selected from the urban component of the Chennai Urban Rural Epidemiology Study (CURES). Dietary intakes were assessed using a validated interviewer administered semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). Physical activity was based upon the self-report. Interaction analyses were performed by including the interaction terms in the linear/logistic regression model. Results There was a significant interaction between SNP rs8050136 and carbohydrate intake (% energy) (Pinteraction = 0.04), where the ‘A’ allele carriers had 2.46 times increased risk of obesity than those with ‘CC’ genotype (P = 3.0 × 10−5) among individuals in the highest tertile of carbohydrate intake (% energy, 71 %). A significant interaction was also observed between SNP rs11076023 and dietary fibre intake (Pinteraction = 0.0008), where individuals with AA genotype who are in the 3rd tertile of dietary fibre intake had 1.62 cm lower waist circumference than those with ‘T’ allele carriers (P = 0.02). Furthermore, among those who were physically inactive, the ‘A’ allele carriers of the SNP rs8050136 had 1.89 times increased risk of obesity than those with ‘CC’ genotype (P = 4.0 × 10−5). Conclusions This is the first study to provide evidence for a gene-diet and gene-physical activity interaction on obesity and T2D in an Asian Indian population. Our findings suggest that the association between FTO SNPs and obesity might be influenced by carbohydrate and dietary fibre intake and physical inactivity. Further understanding of how FTO gene influences obesity and T2D through dietary and exercise interventions is warranted to advance the development of behavioral intervention and personalised lifestyle strategies, which could reduce the risk of metabolic diseases in this Asian Indian population.

Objective Dietary intake and nutritional status of antioxidant vitamins have been reported to protect against some cancers The objective of the present study was to assess the correlations between serum levels of carotenoids (including beta-, alpha- and gamma-carotene), lycopene, retinol, alpha- and gamma-tocopherols, and dietary intakes estimated by an FFQ, among low-income women in the Brazilian Investigation into Nutrition and Cervical Cancer Prevention (BRINCA) study. Design Cross-sectional study of data for 918 women aged 21-65 years participating in the BRINCA study in Sao Paulo city. Multiple linear regression models were used with serum nutrient levels as the dependent variable and dietary intake levels as the independent variable, adjusted for confounding factors. Results In energy-adjusted analyses, the intakes of dark green and deep yellow vegetables and fruits (partial R(2) = 4.8%), total fruits and juices (partial R(2) = 1.8%), vegetables and fruits (partial R(2) = 1.8%), carrots (partial R(2) = 1.4%) and citrus fruits and juices only (partial R(2) = 0.8%) were positively correlated only with serum total carotene levels, after adjusting for serum total cholesterol concentration, age, hospital attended, smoking status. BMI and presence of cervical lesions Multiple-adjusted serum levels of carotenoids were positively correlated with intake quartiles of dark green and deep yellow vegetables and fruits and total fruits and juices independent of smoking status. Conclusions The intake of specific fruits and vegetables was an independent predictor of serum total carotene levels in low-income women living in Sao Paulo

Objective. To evaluate the perception of eating practices and the stages of change among adolescents. Methods. Cross-sectional study involving a representative sample of 390 adolescents from 11 public schools in the city of Piracicaba, Brazil, in 2004. Food consumption was identified by a food frequency questionnaire and the perception of eating practices evaluation was conducted by comparing food consumption and individual classification of healthy aspects of the diet. The participants were classified within stages of change by means of a specific algorithm. A reclassification within new stages of change was proposed to identify adolescents with similar characteristics regarding food consumption and perception. Results. Low consumption of fruit and vegetables and high consumption of sweets and fats were identified. More than 44% of the adolescents had a mistaken perception of their diet. A significant relationship between the stages of change and food consumption was observed. The reclassification among stages of change, through including the pseudo-maintenance and non-reflective action stages was necessary, considering the high proportion of adolescents who erroneously classified their diets as healthy. Conclusion. Classification of the adolescents into stages of change, together with consumption and perception data, enabled identification of groups at risk, in accordance with their inadequate dietary habits and non-recognition of such habits. Background and aims: Evidence suggests that fructose and sweetened beverages may be a risk factor for obesity and type 2 diabetes, but the role of sweetened fruit juices in glucose disturbances has been minimally explored. The aim of this study was to examine the association of total fructose, fresh fruit and sweetened fruit juice intake with glucose tolerance homeostasis in Japanese-Brazilians. Methods and results: A total of 475 men and 579 women aged >= 30 years were evaluated in a cross-sectional population-based survey with a standardized protocol including a 2-h oral glucose tolerance test (WHO criteria). Habitual food consumption was obtained using a validated food frequency questionnaire for Japanese-Brazitians. After adjustments for potential confounding variables, the odds ratio (OR; 95%Cl) for impaired glucose tolerance was 2.1 (1.0-4.5; P for trend = 0.05) for the highest as compared to the lowest tertile intake of total fructose and 2.3 (1.1-5.1; P for trend = 0.05) for the highest as compared to the lowest tertile intake of sweetened fruit juices. Conclusion: Our results showed that high intakes of dietary fructose and sweetened fruit juices, but not whole fresh fruits, were associated with impaired glucose tolerance among genetically susceptible individuals. To determine whether changes in dietary intakes predict weight loss, we studied 80 overweight adults who attended a nutritional counseling program during 6 months of follow-up at a primary health care center in Brazil. Habitual diet was assessed using a validated food frequency questionnaire at baseline and after 6 months. The mean age (+/-SD) of the participants was 46.5 +/- 9.5 years, and their mean body mass index was 29 +/- 3 kg/m(2) at baseline. After 6 months, the differences in body weight and fruit/vegetable intake were -1.4 +/- 3 kg and 109 +/- 320 g daily, respectively. Using multiple linear regression models adjusted for age, sex, changes in walking time, and total energy intake, the increased intake of dietary fiber from fruits/vegetables was associated with a greater weight loss (beta 1 [95% confidence interval (CI)] = -0.180 [-0.269, -0.0911) after 6 months of follow-up. Similar results were observed for increased intake of vegetables (beta 1 [95% CI] = -0.00497 [-0.008, -0.0021) and fruits (beta 1 [95% CI] = -0.00290 [-0.005, -0.001]) as predictors of weight loss. The increase of 100 g/d of vegetables and fruits represented a body weight loss of 500 and 300 g after 6 months, respectively (P <.05). Our findings support the relevance of increased intakes of fruits and vegetables that may help avoid weight gain in overweight adults. (C) 2008 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
