Debate propositivo sobre os biossimilares de enoxaparina no Brasil

Algumas patentes das heparinas de baixo peso molecular expiraram e outras estão vencendo. Versões biossimilares desses fármacos estão disponíveis para o uso clínico em vários países. Entretanto, ainda persiste ceticismo sobre a possibilidade de se obter preparações semelhantes ao medicamento original em razão do complexo processo para gerar heparina de baixo peso molecular. Nosso laboratório analisou, nos últimos anos, amostras de enoxaparina disponíveis para uso clínico no Brasil. Já analisamos 30 lotes distintos e 70 produtos acabados. Essas preparações foram avaliadas quanto à estrutura química, distribuição de peso molecular, atividade anticoagulante in vitro e efeitos farmacológicos em modelos animais de trombose e sangramento. Claramente, nossos resultados indicam que as preparações biossimilares de enoxaparina são semelhantes ao medicamento original. Nossos resultados indicam que essas versões biossimilares de enoxaparina são uma alternativa terapêutica válida, mas que requerem regulamentação adequada para assegurar o atendimento de requisitos regulatórios apropriados.

Where Has the Old Debate Gone? Realism, Institutionalism, and IR Theory

This paper resorts to the contribution of the science philosopher Gerald Holton to map some of the IR arguments and debates in an unconventional and more insightful way. From this starting point, it is sustained that the formerly all-pervading neorealism-neoinstitutionalism debate has lost its appeal and is attracting less and less interest among scholars. It does not structure the approach of the theoretically-oriented authors any more; at least, not with the habitual intensity. More specifically, we defend that the neo-neo rapprochement, even if it could have demonstrated that international cooperation is possible and relevant in a Realist world, it has also impoverished theoretical debate by hiding some of the most significant issues that preoccupied classical transnationalists. Hence, some authors appear to be trying to rescue some of these arguments in an analytical and systematic fashion, opening up a theoretical querelle that may be the next one to pay attention to.

Jornada de presentación y debate en torno al Libro Verde de la Accesibilidad en España : informe final

La Jornada ha pretendido avanzar hacia la definición de un Libro Blanco que recoja la perspectiva y opiniones de los distintos agentes implicados en la accesibilidad a los distintos entornos y servicios relacionados con la edificación, el urbanismo, los transportes y la comunicación e información. Para ello se ha partido de la presentación y debate de los contenidos del Libro Verde y de las propuestas del equipo redactor. Este documento resume los aspectos más destacables de la Jornada dando prioridad a los debates y aportaciones producidas en los talleres sectoriales. En él no se incluyen los resúmenes o el contenido de las presentaciones realizadas en las sesiones plenarias.

Historia, política y ciencia: el papel de los expertos en el debate sobre el agua en España

En la presente investigación estudiamos cuales han sido los temas y debates que se han generado en España alrededor del problema de la distribución del agua. Empezaremos nuestro relato con la aparición del primer proyecto hidrológico a finales del siglo XIX hasta la era de Franco, una época que podemos caracterizar como la de los grandes planes hidrológicos pensados para fomentar la expansión del regadío. Queremos ver cómo ha cambiado la dinámica del abordaje de estos temas, cuáles han sido los debates que han generado y cuáles los actores implicados en los mismos, prestando especial atención al papel de los expertos.

The Ideas Debate in International and European Studies: Towards a Cartography and Critical Assessment

The appeal to ideas as causal variables and/or constitutive features of political processes increasingly characterises political analysis. Yet, perhaps because of the pace of this ideational intrusion, too often ideas have simply been grafted onto pre-existing explanatory theories at precisely the point at which they seem to get into difficulties, with little or no consideration either of the status of such ideational variables or of the character or consistency of the resulting theoretical hybrid. This is particularly problematic for ideas are far from innocent variables – and can rarely, if ever, be incorporated seamlessly within existing explanatory and/or constitutive theories without ontological and epistemological consequence. We contend that this tendency along with the limitations of the prevailing Humean conception of causality, and associated epistemological polemic between causal and constitutive logics, continue to plague almost all of the literature that strives to accord an explanatory role to ideas. In trying to move beyond the current vogue for epistemological polemic, we argue that the incommensurability thesis between causal and constitutive logics is only credible in the context of a narrow, Humean, conception of causation. If we reject this in favour of a more inclusive (and ontologically realist) understanding then it is perfectly possible to chart the causal significance of constitutive processes and reconstrue the explanatory role of ideas as causally constitutive.

Commentary on: Berger-Karin C, Hendricks U, Geyer-Lippmann J. Comparison of natural and artificial aging of ballpoint inks

We would like to comment this study recently published in JFS. It is a short technical note proposing an artificial aging technique for the dating of ballpoint pen inks. This is a very difficult and controversial topic, and we are worried about the nature of this paper. The authors propose several ideas to differentiate fast aging and slow aging inks, but their experimental data is not validly represented and/or discussed. The data is insufficient to draw any conclusions about any potential of the method for ink dating purposes. This lack of information on the subject must be filled before proposing such methods for practical caseworks. These are preliminary and unconvincing results from development research performed in a laboratory on controlled samples without due warnings about potential shortcomings. They cannot be used or even compared to results obtained in real situations on uncontrolled specimens of limited size, unknown composition and undefined storage conditions. This can leave an undeserved feeling that these methods are ready for implementation when the task of ensuring their scientific validity is still far away.

The debate over the effector function of eosinophils in helminth infection: new evidence from studies on the regulation of vaccine immunity by IL-12

The production of Th1-type cytokines is associated with strong cell-mediated immunity while Th2-type cytokines are typically involved in the generation of humoral immune responses. In mice vaccinated a single time (1X) with attenuated cercariae of Schistosoma mansoni, the immunity induced is highly dependent on CD4+ T cells and IFN-gamma. In contrast, mice vaccinated multiple times (3X) have decreased IFN-gamma expression, develop a more dominant Th2-type cytokine response as well as protective antibodies which can passively transfer immunity to naive recipients. Previously, we demonstrated the ability of IL-12, a potent IFN-gamma-inducing cytokine to enhance (1X) schistosome cell-mediated immunity when administered during the period of immunization. More recently, we asked what effects IL-12 would have on the development humoral-based immunity. While multiply-immunized/saline-treated mice demonstrated a 70-80% reduction in parasite burden, 3X/IL-12-vaccinated animals displayed an even more striking >90% reduction in challenge infection, with many mice in the later group demonstrating complete protection. Analysis of pulmonary cytokine mRNA responses demonstrated that control challenged mice elicited a dominant Th2-type response, 3X/saline-vaccinated produced a mixed Th1/Th2-type cytokine response, while 3X/IL-12-immunized animals displayed a dominant Th1-type response. The IL-12-treated group also showed a marked reduction in total serum IgE and tissue eosinophilia while SWAP-specific IgG2a and IgG2b Abs were elevated. Interestingly, animals vaccinated with IL-12 also showed a highly significant increase in total Ig titers specific for IrV-5, a known protective antigen. More importantly, 3X/IL-12 serum alone, when transferred to naive mice reduced worm burdens by over 60% while 3X/saline serum transferred significantly less protection. Nevertheless, animals vaccinated in the presence of IL-12 also develop macrophages with enhanced nitric oxide dependent killing activity against the parasites. Together, these observations suggest that IL-12, initially described as an adjuvant for cell-mediated immunity, may also be used as an adjuvant for promoting both humoral and cell-mediated protective responses.
