This paper discusses the concept of 'Corruption Related Decision-Making' (CRDM) in the context of management decision-making in corruption-related situations in business. CRDM is a potential contribution to the overall contemporary process of re-conceptualising the role of business and the market economy in management theory and practice. This paper addresses a significant gap in current management literature dealing with corruption in business.

The nature of corruption in international business is briefly considered and several types of bribes are distinguished. Two managerial decision-models are then proposed, in order to assist international managers faced with corruption-related situations. The first model is based upon an ethical analysis and it conditionally endorses some types of facilitating-payment. The second is based upon a psychological analysis and it involves identification and classification of the generic consequences of bribe payments. The two models are intended to form part of a wider and multifaceted approach to reducing corruption.

This paper reports the results of a rare interview/questionnaire survey of 41 multinational business managers in India regarding their personal experiences of corrupt practices. Despite current trends and traditional scepticism, quite favourable prospects for reducing corruption are indicated, provided that multifaceted approaches are adopted that appeal to intrinsic and extrinsic motives. Accordingly, a corruption related decision-making model is proposed, for use as an heuristic guide in circumstances involving corrupt business practices.

Multinational business managers and companies with an ethical bent of mind find it difficult to navigate bribery/corruption in a host country which has systemic or large scale corruption and often end up debating such decisions. This paper proposes the ‘stakeholder compliance approach’ as a decision-making guideline to assist the managerial decision making process in such situations.

In general, given a particular set of institutions, the greater a county's per capita income, the more extensive will be its pro vision of goods and services that require concerted public action. We contend that one of the most important aspects of institutions in this regard is public sector corruption. We test this contention by analyzing 85 countries observed in 1990, 1995, 2000, and 2004--the only years for which data on improved drinking water and adequate sanitation are available. The models point to statistically significant, negative relations between corruption and access to both improved drinking water and adequate sanitation.

How do detectives make love? was accepted for publication by Penguin Books, Australia in 1994. Also included is a 12,000 word exegesis in support of the manuscript titled How do detectives make love? Themes of the survival of the child: corruption in relation to innocence. The exegesis explores various themes and motifs occurring throughout the work, including the motif of birds and dogs, and the themes of love and the police, guns and weaponry, the outback and parklands, the parents, the change from childhood to adolescence and adolescence to adulthood, and the survival of the child. The current vital social relevance of these themes and motifs is explored in the poems. The literary use of the themes is explored comparatively with the work of other Australian poets including Gig Ryan, Kenneth Slessor and Les Murray. The purpose of the exegesis is to give the reader insights into the poet's intellectual processes and literary concerns throughout the work itself.

Traffic accidents result in 1 million deaths annually worldwide, though the burden is disproportionately felt in poorer countries. Typically, fatality rates from disease and accidents fall as countries develop. Traffic deaths, however, regularly increase with income, at least up to a threshold level, before declining. While we confirm this by analyzing 1,356 country-year observations between 1982 and 2000, our purpose is to consider the role played by public sector corruption in determining traffic fatalities. We find that such corruption, independent of income, plays a significant role in the epidemics of traffic fatalities that are common in relatively poor countries.

This paper proposes a new definition of corruption that includes as a part of the definition the potential harm that corruption originating from business decisions can cause. The purpose of this paper is to enlarge the scope of corruption research and encourage future research to consider the role of business and managerial decision-making in corruption in addition to the prevalent focus of corruption research on the public official.
