Une nouvelle méthode d'extraction en phase solide (SPE) couplée à une technique d'analyse ultrarapide a été développée pour la détermination simultanée de neuf contaminants émergents (l'atrazine, le déséthylatrazine, le 17(béta)-estradiol, l'éthynylestradiol, la noréthindrone, la caféine, la carbamazépine, le diclofénac et le sulfaméthoxazole) provenant de différentes classes thérapeutiques et présents dans les eaux usées. La pré-concentration et la purification des échantillons a été réalisée avec une cartouche SPE en mode mixte (Strata ABW) ayant à la fois des propriétés échangeuses de cations et d'anions suivie d'une analyse par une désorption thermique par diode laser/ionisation chimique à pression atmosphérique couplée à la spectrométrie de masse en tandem (LDTD-APCI-MS/MS). La LDTD est une nouvelle méthode d'introduction d'échantillon qui réduit le temps total d'analyse à moins de 15 secondes par rapport à plusieurs minutes avec la chromatographie liquide couplée à la spectrométrie de masse en tandem traditionnelle (LC-MS/MS). Plusieurs paramètres SPE ont été évalués dans le but d'optimiser l'efficacité de récupération lors de l'extraction des analytes provenant des eaux usées, tels que la nature de la phase stationnaire, le débit de chargement, le pH d'extraction, le volume et la composition de la solution de lavage et le volume de l'échantillon initial. Cette nouvelle méthode a été appliquée avec succès à de vrais échantillons d'eaux usées provenant d'un réservoir de décantation primaire. Le recouvrement des composés ciblés provenant des eaux usées a été de 78 à 106%, la limite de détection a été de 30 à 122 ng L-1, alors que la limite de quantification a été de 88 à 370 ng L-1. Les courbes d'étalonnage dans les matrices d'eaux usées ont montré une bonne linéarité (R2 > 0,991) pour les analytes cibles ainsi qu’une précision avec un coefficient de variance inférieure à 15%.

This paper presents gamma stochastic volatility models and investigates its distributional and time series properties. The parameter estimators obtained by the method of moments are shown analytically to be consistent and asymptotically normal. The simulation results indicate that the estimators behave well. The insample analysis shows that return models with gamma autoregressive stochastic volatility processes capture the leptokurtic nature of return distributions and the slowly decaying autocorrelation functions of squared stock index returns for the USA and UK. In comparison with GARCH and EGARCH models, the gamma autoregressive model picks up the persistence in volatility for the US and UK index returns but not the volatility persistence for the Canadian and Japanese index returns. The out-of-sample analysis indicates that the gamma autoregressive model has a superior volatility forecasting performance compared to GARCH and EGARCH models.

Objetivo: El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar la relación entre la actividad física (AF) en el tiempo libre y la auto percepción del estado de salud en Colombia. Métodos: a partir de los datos de una muestra compleja se obtuvieron 14601 registros de sujetos entre 18 y 64 años de Colombia. Se aplicaron modelos de regresión logística para la auto percepción de la salud. Resultados: la prevalencia de AF en el tiempo libre fue de 5,8% en mujeres y de 13% en hombres (p < 0,001) y el auto reporte de salud encontró que 27,7% de las mujeres y 19,7% de los hombres se perciben regulares o malos (p < 0,001). Se encontró influencia de grupos de mayor edad, menor escolaridad, afiliados al sistema de seguridad social y área rural de residencia con pobres auto reportes de salud. Un OR de 1,92 (IC 95% 1,19 – 3,10) reportan las mujeres con bajos niveles de AF en el tiempo libre de auto percibirse pobre en su salud frente a las mujeres con alta AF en el tiempo libre. En los hombres no se encontró esta misma evidencia. Discusión: la influencia de un nivel vigoroso de AF en el tiempo libre sobre la auto percepción del estado de salud en el grupo de mujeres es uno de los principales hallazgos. Estos resultados permiten direccionar políticas públicas tendientes a fomentar la práctica de AF, garantizar el acceso a la educación y a la afiliación a un sistema de salud de la población.

A Pb-mine site situated on acidic soil, but comprising of Ca-enriched islands around derelict buildings was used to study the spatial pattern of genetic diversity in Lumbricus rubellus. Two distinct genetic lineages ('A' and 'B'), differentiated at both the mitochondrial (mtDNA COII) and nuclear level (AFLPs) were revealed with a mean inter-lineage mtDNA sequence divergence of approximately 13%, indicative of a cryptic species complex. AFLP analysis indicates that lineage A individuals within one central 'ecological island' site are uniquely clustered, with little genetic overlap with lineage A individuals at the two peripheral sites. FTIR microspectroscopy of Pb-sequestering chloragocytes revealed different phosphate profiles in residents of adjacent acidic and calcareous islands. Bioinformatics found over-representation of Ca pathway genes in ESTPb libraries. Subsequent sequencing of a Ca-transport gene, SERCA, revealed mutations in the protein's cytosolic domain. We recommend the mandatory genotyping of all individuals prior to field-based ecotoxicological assays, particularly those using discriminating genomic technologies.

Procurement is one of major business operations in public service sector. The advance of information and communication technology (ICT) pushes this business operation to increase its efficiency and foster collaborations between the organization and its suppliers. This leads to a shift from the traditional procurement transactions to an e-procurement paradigm. Such change impacts on business process, information management and decision making. E-procurement involves various stakeholders who engage in activities based on different social and cultural practices. Therefore, a design of e-procurement system may involve complex situations analysis. This paper describes an approach of using the problem articulation method to support such analysis. This approach is applied to a case study from UAE.

The present work describes a new tool that helps bidders improve their competitive bidding strategies. This new tool consists of an easy-to-use graphical tool that allows the use of more complex decision analysis tools in the field of Competitive Bidding. The graphic tool described here tries to move away from previous bidding models which attempt to describe the result of an auction or a tender process by means of studying each possible bidder with probability density functions. As an illustration, the tool is applied to three practical cases. Theoretical and practical conclusions on the great potential breadth of application of the tool are also presented.

Anomalous and natural concentrations of Cr(6+), occasionally exceeding the permitted limit for human consumption (0.05 mg/L), have been detected in groundwater in the northwestern region of the state of Sao Paulo. As part of a water-rock interaction investigation, this article describes the chemical and mineralogical characterization of rock samples taken from boreholes in the municipality of Urania, with the objective of identifying Cr-bearing minerals and determining how chromium is associated with these minerals. Rock sample analysis were performed using X-ray Fluorescence, X-ray Diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy, electron microprobe and sequential extraction techniques. Chemical analyses indicated that the quartzose sandstones show a geochemical anomaly of chromium, with an average content of 221 ppm, which is higher than the reported chromium content of generic sandstones (35 ppm). Diopside was identified as the primary Cr-bearing mineral potentially subject to weathering processes, with a chromium content of up to 1.2% as Cr(2)O(3). Many of the diopside grains showed dissolution features, confirming the occurrence of weathering. Sequential extraction experiments indicated that 99.3% of the chromium in samples is tightly bonded to minerals, whereas 0.24% is weakly bonded via adsorption. Assuming hypothetically that all adsorbed chromium is released via desorption, the theoretical Cr concentration in water would be one order of magnitude higher than the concentrations of Cr(6+) detected in groundwater. This work describes the evaluation of several parameters for the preparation of a tuna fish candidate as a reference material (RM) in order to measure the total As mass fraction by slurry sampling graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (SLS-GF AAS) and slurry sampling hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry (SLS-HG AAS). The main parameters investigated were the homogeneity, analyte segregation and composition during material production. For candidate RM preparation, tuna fish was collected at a local market, cleaned, freeze-dried and treated using different procedures as follows: (1) ground in a cutting mill and separated in different particle sizes (2) ground in cryogenic mill. The mass fraction of As in the cryogenically ground sample was (4.77 +/- A 0.19) mu g g(-1) for SLS-GF AAS and (4.61 +/- A 0.34) mu g g(-1) for SLS-HG AAS. The accuracy of the procedures was checked with tuna fish certified reference material (BCR 627) with recoveries of 102 and 94% for SLS-GF AAS and SLS-HG AAS, respectively. The homogeneity factor was calculated for different pretreatment procedures and for particle sizes in the range of 500-150 mu g, indicating good homogeneity, except for raw fish. There was no observed analyte segregation and no losses, no contamination and no changes in the microdistribution of material during preparation.

Introdução: O uso da pressão expiratória positiva na via aérea (EPAP) não é sugerido como técnica de desmame. O EPAP pode previnir o colapso das vias aéreas durante a expiração. Objetivo: O objetivo deste trabalho é verificar se a utilização da pressão expiratória positiva na via aérea (EPAP) apresenta benefícios na redução da hiperinsuflação dinâmica com redução do trabalho respiratório e melhora da oxigenação em pacientes submetidos ao processo de desmame da ventilação mecânica. Material e Métodos: Quarenta pacientes submetidos à ventilação mecânica por um período maior que 48 horas em 2 unidades de terapia intensiva foram avaliados prospectivamente em um estudo randomizado controlado cruzado. Todos os pacientes foram submetidos métodos de ventilação de pressão de suporte (PSV), tubo-t e EPAP, durante 30 minutos, com um período de descanso de 30 minutos entre cada método. Os pacientes foram monitorizados pelo VenTrack (Novametrix, EUA). As variáveis estudadas, mensuradas no minuto 1, 15 e 30, foram: PEEP intínseca (PEEPi), trabalho respiratório (WOBtotal), frequência respiratória (f), volume de ar corrente (Vt) e saturação periférica de oxigênio (SaO2). A amostra geral foi analisada e dividida em subgrupos DPOC (n= 14) e não-DPOC (n=26), traqueostomizados (n=15) e não-traqueostomizados (n=25). As comparações foram feitas pela Análise de Variância (ANOVA) e teste-t. O nível de significância foi de 95%. Resultados: PEEPi DPOC e não-DPOC minuto 1 (0,014 + 0,03 versus 0,17 + 0,38 cmH2O) e minuto 15 (0,042 + 0,13 versus 0,41 + 0,78 cmH2O) (p<0,05). No subgrupo não-traqueo, nos métodos de PSV15 (0,26 + 0,5 cm H2O) e EPAP15 (0,02 + 0,07 cm H2O), assim como PSV 30 (0,21 + 0,4 cm H2O) e EPAP 30 (0,02 + 0,1 cm H2O) (p<0,05). Para traqueo vs não-traqueo, no método EPAP minuto 1 (PEEPi traqueo 0,58 + 0,94 cm H2O; PEEPi não-traqueo 0,08 + 0,28 cmH2O) e minuto 15 (PEEPi traqueo 0,91 + 2,06 cm H2O; PEEPi não-traqueo 0,02 + 0,07 cmH2O) (p<0,05). Em relação ao WOBtotal houve um aumento significativo no método EPAP em relação ao tubo-t na análise geral da amostra (p<0,05). A f mostrou-se maior no método EPAP para o subgrupo não-DPOC e não-traqueo (minutos 1, 15 e 30). A SaO2 foi maior no subgrupo PSV quando comparada com tubo-t na análise geral da amostra, (p<0,05) Conclusões: A EPAP não demonstrou redução na PEEPi na análise geral da amostra, subgrupo DPOC, não-DPOC e traqueostomizados. Houve redução na PEEPi no grupo não-traqueostomizados. Houve aumento do WOBtotal com o uso da EPAP. Neste estudo a EPAP não demonstrou vantagens em relação aos outros métodos.

Building Risk-Neutral Densities (RND) from options data can provide market-implied expectations about the future behavior of a financial variable. And market expectations on financial variables may influence macroeconomic policy decisions. It can be useful also for corporate and financial institutions decision making. This paper uses the Liu et all (2007) approach to estimate the option-implied Risk-neutral densities from the Brazilian Real/US Dollar exchange rate distribution. We then compare the RND with actual exchange rates, on a monthly basis, in order to estimate the relative risk-aversion of investors and also obtain a Real-world density for the exchange rate. We are the first to calculate relative risk-aversion and the option-implied Real World Density for an emerging market currency. Our empirical application uses a sample of Brazilian Real/US Dollar options traded at BM&F-Bovespa from 1999 to 2011. The RND is estimated using a Mixture of Two Log-Normals distribution and then the real-world density is obtained by means of the Liu et al. (2007) parametric risktransformations. The relative risk aversion is calculated for the full sample. Our estimated value of the relative risk aversion parameter is around 2.7, which is in line with other articles that have estimated this parameter for the Brazilian Economy, such as Araújo (2005) and Issler and Piqueira (2000). Our out-of-sample evaluation results showed that the RND has some ability to forecast the Brazilian Real exchange rate. Abe et all (2007) found also mixed results in the out-of-sample analysis of the RND forecast ability for exchange rate options. However, when we incorporate the risk aversion into RND in order to obtain a Real-world density, the out-of-sample performance improves substantially, with satisfactory results in both Kolmogorov and Berkowitz tests. Therefore, we would suggest not using the “pure” RND, but rather taking into account risk aversion in order to forecast the Brazilian Real exchange rate.

O trabalho tem como objetivo verificar a existência e a relevância dos Efeitos Calendário em indicadores industriais. São explorados modelos univariados lineares para o indicador mensal da produção industrial brasileira e alguns de seus componentes. Inicialmente é realizada uma análise dentro da amostra valendo-se de modelos estruturais de espaço-estado e do algoritmo de seleção Autometrics, a qual aponta efeito significante da maioria das variáveis relacionadas ao calendário. Em seguida, através do procedimento de Diebold-Mariano (1995) e do Model Confidence Set, proposto por Hansen, Lunde e Nason (2011), são realizadas comparações de previsões de modelos derivados do Autometrics com um dispositivo simples de Dupla Diferença para um horizonte de até 24 meses à frente. Em geral, os modelos Autometrics que consideram as variáveis de calendário se mostram superiores nas projeções de 1 a 2 meses adiante e superam o modelo simples em todos os horizontes. Quando se agrega os componentes de categoria de uso para formar o índice industrial total, há evidências de ganhos nas projeções de prazo mais curto.

Complex network analysis is a powerful tool into research of complex systems like brain networks. This work aims to describe the topological changes in neural functional connectivity networks of neocortex and hippocampus during slow-wave sleep (SWS) in animals submited to a novel experience exposure. Slow-wave sleep is an important sleep stage where occurs reverberations of electrical activities patterns of wakeness, playing a fundamental role in memory consolidation. Although its importance there s a lack of studies that characterize the topological dynamical of functional connectivity networks during that sleep stage. There s no studies that describe the topological modifications that novel exposure leads to this networks. We have observed that several topological properties have been modified after novel exposure and this modification remains for a long time. Major part of this changes in topological properties by novel exposure are related to fault tolerance

The accelerated growth of urban regions have produced relevant effects on water resources. Urban regions need an adequate institutional structure that can be able to face environmental demands and the adverse effects of land use on water resources. This study aims at analysing land use effects on heavy metals concentration in sediments and water, as well as making a comparative analysis involving water physical-chemical parameters. Applied methodology included both in loco water parameters measurement and water and bed sediment sampling at 8 sections along the fluvial system. Sample analysis was performed in laboratory in order to measure heavy metal concentrations. It was measured metal concentrations of Al, Cu, Pb, Cd, Fe, Ni and Zn. Once the samples were subjected to acid digestion (method 3050B), concentration values were measured by using atomic absorption spectrometry by flame (ICP-FLAA). The analysis results were compared with normative reference, these standards is intended to assess the risks of toxic substances in sediment and water management programs. The normative reference used in this work were: a) Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Energy (OMEE, 1993) b) Normative Netherlands (VROM, 2000); c) Normative Canadian (CCME, 1999); d) United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA, 1977), e) CONAMA Resolution No. 344/2004; f) CONAMA Resolution No. 357/2005. The high concentrations of iron (38,750 mg.g-1), Lead (1100 mg.g-1), Nickel (100 μg.g-1) and zinc (180 μg.g-1) detected sediments confirm the state of degradation of the aquatic system. Iron concentrations (1.08 mg.L-1), Aluminum (0.6 mg.L-1) and phosphorus (0.05 mg.L-1) present in the water are outside the established standards for human consumption

Astyanax scabripinnis possesses a widespread polymorphism for metacentric B chromosomes as large as the largest chromosome pair in the A complement. on the basis of C-banding pattern, it was hypothesized that these B chromosomes are isochromosomes that have arisen by means of centromere misdivision and chromatid nondisjunction. In the present paper we test this hypothesis by analysing (i) the localization of a repetitive DNA sequence on both B chromosome arms, and (ii) synaptonemal complex formation, in order to test the functional homology of both arms. Genomic DNA digested with KpnI and analysed by gel electrophoresis showed fragments in a ladder-like pattern typical of tandemly repetitive DNA. These fragments were cloned and their tandem organization in the genome was confirmed. A 51-bp long consensus sequence, which was AT-rich (59%) and contained a variable region and two imperfect reverse sequences, was obtained. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) localized this repetitive DNA into noncentromeric constitutive heterochromatin which encompasses the terminal region of some acrocentric chromosomes, the NOR region, and interstitial polymorphic heterochromatin in chromosome 24. Most remarkably, tandem repeats were almost symmetrically placed in the two arms of the B chromosome, with the exception of two additional small clusters proximally located on the slightly longer arm. Synaptonemal complex (SC) analysis showed 26 completely paired SCs in males with 1B. The ring configuration of the B univalent persisting until metaphase I suggests that the two arms formed chiasmata. All these data provided strong support for the hypothesis that the B chromosome is an isochromosome.
