“All we want in Laos is peace, not war": Intervención de Estados Unidos en Laos, 1954-1961

La guerra de Laos es probablemente uno de los episodios de la Guerra Fría más desconocidos e ignorados por la historiografía a pesar de las terribles consecuencias que tuvo. El hecho de que frecuentemente se considere como un conflicto periférico y ligado a la Guerra de Vietnam no contribuye tampoco a mejorar esta imagen.

Marià Vallès i Vallès, arxiver de la Diputació de Barcelona (1893-1919)

Des de la creació de l’Arxiu (1820) ha evolucionat el tractament dels seus fons. Segons els Reglaments (1822, 1879) els oficials descrivien els expedients, el registrador resseguia el tràmit, i l’arxiver controlava amb un registre la ubicació dels lligalls. Esteve (1836) inventarià la documentació antiga, estructurada en seccions per Quintana. Solà (1854), seguit per Rancés, classificà per negociats i matèries i millorà la descripció dels lligalls. Vallès confeccionà un Registre-inventari que descriu cronològicament per negociats i matèries tots els fons. També inventarià col•leccions i fons afegits, que la Mancomunitat destinà a l’IEC, la Biblioteca de Catalunya i els Museus d’Art. A Progress Report on Treating Loess, Fine Sands and Soft Limestones with Liquid Binders, HR-20, 1954

Certain areas of Iowa abound in loess, others contain soft limestones that are readily and cheaply available, and a large portion of the state is underlaid with sand. None of these materials is considered suitable in present practices for use in all-weather road construction. The loess is too fine and too difficult to handle; the limestones are considered too soft, and some of the harder ones unsound for this use; the sands are not naturally of the desired gradation and do not lend themselves to blending into satisfactory gradations. The purpose of this project is, therefore, to study and develop means and to determine the feasibility of using these materials, loess, fine sand, and soft limestones, either separately or in combinations in conjunction with liquid binders to produce paving mixtures applicable for all-weather road construction. Also included in the project was the development of methods of processing any of these materials, if necessary, to make them suitable for the desired purpose
