Pseudomonas aeruginosa LBI produced surface active rhamnolipids when cultivated on waste from the sunflower-oil process under different conditions. These biosurfactants, which reduce the superficial and interfacial tensions between fluids, offer advantages over their chemical counterparts, especially because of their ecological acceptability. These molecules can be used in fields as diverse as chemical, pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries. In this work, we present the effect of C/N ratio on growth and production yield. The best production yields (Y-P/S) were achieved for C/N ratios (in g/g) of 8/1 (0.22) and 6.4/1 (0.23). The product concentration was very satisfactory (7.3 g/L) at C/N ratio of 8/1, especially when considering that the substrate was basically composed of wastes that would otherwise constitute an environmental disposal problem. This work is part of the research group studying agribusiness chains, by characterizing agroindustrial chain of cashew nuts in Rio Grande do Norte, with special emphasis on Sertão de Apodi Citizenship Territory, showing their different flows and linkages and analyzes generating jobs and income in the production of this good, from the experience of COOPAPI, using as a methodology for analyzing the input-output matrix. And this is justified by the fact that Brazil is in the context as the world's fifth largest producer of cashew nuts and the production of this product focus in the Northeast, especially the Rio Grande do Norte, which is the second largest producer of region, behind only the state of Ceará, which is the largest producer in the country. Moreover, in recent years the state has increased its insertion in international markets this product, particularly the Mossoró-Assu Territory, which constitutes the largest producer in the state, particularly the municipality of Serra do Mel, which has an arrangement different yield, based on the model of integrated rural development, embodied in family farming. Nevertheless, the Sertão de Apodi Citizenship appear as the fourth among the Citizenship territories of Rio Grande do Norte in the ranking of the production of cashew nuts, but the prevailing model of Cooperatives in the Territory, based on the Solidarity Economy, i,e, different from the old cooperative, which is based on the precepts as patronage, with cooperative owners, favor, etc.., encourages scientific research. In this, after a careful analysis of data from field research, it was noticed that among the links in the chain, the production link is what generates the most jobs, while the processing link commands to generate income, but a portion meaningful occupations and income are generated outside the territory, especially out of state RN, denouncing the gap in supply of some specific demands within the chain

This paper looks into the cashew nut industrial process as a factor in adding value to it and involves its productions, industrialization and marketing. Its competitiveness fundamentally depends in its ability to surpass technological and non technological difficulties that contributes to increase costs and diminishes attributes to better qualities which means values to the market. The methodology applied in this paper was application of a questionnaire with a Likert model scale with closed questions and constituted by variables that composed nominated groups: exporting obstacles, market strategy, competitive advantages, broken nuts index, productive potential and social-economic profile of members of the Cooperative. A descriptive analysis was the method employed for the data analysis. After identifying some of the quantitative gains in the industrial process of the cashew nuts, recommendations are presented to COOPERCAJU to promote courses to improve the members productivity as well as technical assistance, in order to get more efficacy in the cashew nuts industrial processing

This thesis approaches the situation of small and medium Brazilian companies facing the exportation process, focusing honey (Apis Mellifera). The world economy has had growing market internationalization, known as globalization. In this context, the exportation has to be faced as a way to minimize the inner market difficulties and increase the levels of quality and productivity to attend the external markets in a competitive way. A company exportation process is not linked to its dimensions, but connected to the commitment with quality, creativity and professionalism. The search for new productive frontiers has benefited Brazilian beekeeper, mainly the northeast ones. Besides, the claim for products that are free of chemical remains, with a bigger aggregate value has increased every day, and the Apismel Company is benefited for having potential to produce organic honey. This paper approaches a case study realized with Sixty-nine beekeeper from Serra do Mel, RN, that make the Apismel Company and it aims to investigate the competitive factors that affects honey exportation. In order to obtain subsidies to execute the objective of this work, it was chosen a questionnaire as instrument of research. The questionnaire was structured from variables that were considered as directions of competition in honey exportation. The results were tabled in Software (Statistics version 11.0). The descriptive, exploiter and Kolmogorov-Smirnov analyses were used to analyze the obtained results. At the end, this work recommends that the Apismel Company promote capacitating courses and technical consultations at the many villages that make the county, to ripen and add efficiency in handling implementation in order to equilibrate production factors and to attract inner and external markets

The present study makes an analysis of the Development Program of Beekeeping on Rio Grande do Norte, evaluating the model of management implanted for the SEBRAE/RN in the production of bee honey in Rio Grande do Norte; on the basis of the annual reports emitted by the company in 2003, 2004 and 2005 a discerning survey is done in order to identify to the positive points and the possible imperfections that need to be readjusted, or to be substituted for the success of the program; a bibliographical study of the main authors of the subject with the purpose to gound the study, necessary base for the good performance of this work; the study made with the reports identifies some readjustments that need to be corrected, that will be suggested in the end of this study. However the work developed for the SEBRAE/RN is of good quality and the identified negative points do not compromise the good performance of the program, but it can delay the success desired; Despite the studied reports being inconsistent in some points, it can be identified significant improvements with the result of the work developed for the SEBRAE/RN, among others the creation of financial alternatives for the agriculturists who deal with the beekeeping, the employment, income and development of the enterprising capacity of the producers. However, is verified that it would have to exist more efficient ways that made possible a bigger interaction among the managers of the program and the participant public so that the continuous and necessary improvements were made to any well guided project

Acerola (Malpighia emarginata D.C.) is a red fruit widely cultivated in Brazil, especially in the Northeastern region. Its increasing demand is attributed to its high ascorbic acid contents. Besides ascorbic acid, widely known by its health-benefit effects, acerola is rich in anthocyanins, which contribute for the antioxidant power of the fruit. Acerola processing produces a bright-red pomace, usually discarded. The further processing of this pomace, in order to explore its antioxidant compounds, could enhance acerola market value and rentability of its processing. Both ascorbic acid and anthocyanins are highly susceptible to degradation, that can be delayed by microencapsulation, which consists on packing particles (core) in an edible matrix (wall material). This work has been made with the purpose of producing a microencapsulated acerola pomace extract, which could be used by the food industry as a functional ingredient with antioxidant and coloring properties. Antioxidant compounds were recovered by pressing the pomace diluted in a solvent (a citric acid aqueous solution), by using a central composite design, with two variables: citric acid concentration in the solvent (0-2%), and solvent: pomace mass ratio (2:1-6:1). The acerola pomace extract was then microencapsulated by spray drying. A central composite design was adopted, with three variables: inlet temperature of the spray dryer (170o-200oC), wall material: acerola solids mass ratio (2:1-5:1), and degree of maltodextrin replacement by cashew tree gum as wall material (0-100%). The cashew tree gum was used because of its similarity to arabic gum, which is regarded as the wall material by excellence. The following conditions were considered as optimal for extraction of anthocyanins and ascorbic acid: solvent/pomace ratio, 5:1, and no citric acid in the solvent. 82.47% of the anthocyanins were recovered, as well as 83.22% of the ascorbic acid. Anthocyanin and ascorbic acid retentions were favored by lower inlet temperatures, higher wall material: acerola solids mass ratio and higher maltodextrin replacement by cashew tree gum, which was presented as a promising wall material. The more adequate microencapsulation conditions, based not only on retention of antioxidant compounds but also on physical properties of the final powder, were the following: inlet temperature, 185oC; wall material: acerola solids mass ratio, 5:1, and minimum degree of maltodextrin replacement by cashew tree gum, 50%

In the first paper of this paper (Part I), conditions were presented for the gas cleaning technological route for environomic optimisation of a cogeneration system based in a thermal cycle with municipal solid waste incineration. In this second part, an environomic analysis is presented of a cogeneration system comprising a combined cycle composed of a gas cycle burning natural gas with a heat recovery steam generator with no supplementary burning and a steam cycle burning municipal solid wastes (MSW) to which will be added a pure back pressure steam turbine (another one) of pure condensation. This analysis aims to select, concerning some scenarios, the best atmospheric pollutant emission control routes (rc) according to the investment cost minimisation, operation and social damage criteria. In this study, a comparison is also performed with the results obtained in the Case Study presented in Part I. (c) 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Research of advanced technologies for energy generation contemplates a series of alternatives that are introduced both in the investigation of new energy sources and in the improvement and/or development of new components and systems. Even though significant reductions are observed in the amount of emissions, the proposed alternatives require the use of exhaust gases cleaning systems. The results of environmental analyses based on two configurations proposed for urban waste incineration are presented in this paper; the annexation of integer (Boolean) variables to the environomic model makes it possible to define the best gas cleaning routes based on exergetic cost minimisation criteria. In this first part, the results for steam cogeneration system analysis associated with the incineration of municipal solid wastes (MSW) is presented. (c) 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
