Development of Internet-of-Services will be hampered by heterogeneous Internet-of-Things infrastructures, such as inconsistency in communicating with participating objects, connectivity between them, topology definition & data transfer, access via cloud computing for data storage etc. Our proposed solutions are applicable to a random topology scenario that allow establishing of multi-operational sensor networks out of single networks and/or single service networks with the participation of multiple networks; thus allowing virtual links to be created and resources to be shared. The designed layers are context-aware, application-oriented, and capable of representing physical objects to a management system, along with discovery of services. The reliability issue is addressed by deploying IETF supported IEEE 802.15.4 network model for low-rate wireless personal networks. Flow- sensor succeeded better results in comparison to the typical - sensor from reachability, throughput, energy consumption and diversity gain viewpoint and through allowing the multicast groups into maximum number, performances can be improved.

The roundtable offered an opportunity to share experiences and perceptions of virtual research environments. John Doove (SURFfoundation) presented his impressions from the VRE projects. Jim Farmer, Instructional Media + Magic led a 50 minute discussion on key developments and challenges. The discussion included issues like: An emerging issue is the sharp and continuous increase of data in an era of limited resources. These increases often reduce the effectiveness of search-additional time is required to find expected results. Would new methods of search may be useful? Should this be included as services in a VRE? The form of much new 'knowledge' is in informal 'publications' such as blogs, email, audio, and video which lack the precise metadata of books and journal articles. Could VRE services assist in using these resources as well? The programme continued with discussions on business models for sustainability led by Birte Christensen-Dalsgaard, The Royal Library, and policy and funders' interventions led by Sigrun Eckelmann, DFG.

La Universidad Latinoamericana de Ciencia y Tecnología (ULACIT) es una universidad privada que fomenta el desarrollo de la ciencia y la tecnología entre sus estudiantes. Además, ULACIT participa en el proceso de acreditación nacional ante SINAES” (Sistema Nacional para la Acreditación de la Educación Superior).Pese a esto y conscientes de la importancia que conlleva una buena biblioteca en una institución de educación superior, se ha visto que la biblioteca de esta Universidad no reúne las condiciones necesarias para responder a las demandas y exigencias que el usuario de hoy requiere de ellas. Por lo contrario, se carece de tecnología actualizada para prestar servicios documentales de información y de interacción académica, que se ajuste a los propósitos de la institución.

Esta investigación presenta el proceso llevado a cabo para el diseño, implementación y evaluación de una propuesta formativa en Alfabetización Informacional mediada por un ambiente virtual de aprendizaje, dirigida como prueba-curso piloto a estudiantes de la Escuela Interamericana de Bibliotecología de la Universidad de Antioquia -- Para lograr el desarrollo de dicho curso piloto se siguen las diferentes fases que implica el modelo instruccional PR-ADDIE, teniendo como marco teórico-conceptual: las diferentes posturas respecto a la Alfabetización Informacional (ALFIN) como concepto, ante lo cual esta investigación presenta una propuesta de definición; los distintos modelos de comportamiento informacional y una propuesta integradora de los mismos, e igualmente para el caso de los modelos, normas-estándares de ALFIN -- Como marco contextual, se realiza una recopilación y análisis de 35 sitios web o plataformas sobre las que en diferentes lugares del mundo se están desarrollando exitosos programas de Alfabetización Informacional -- Todo este proceso se interrelaciona de manera transversal con los aportes teóricos y metodológicos que implica asumir como guía para esta investigación la Teoría de la Actividad y la Acción Mediada

A UE tem manifestado em matéria de turismo, a necessidade de serem criados novos produtos turísticos, com base na oferta total e única de cada uma das localidades. Se existirem recursos naturais, recursos culturais, bem como uma oferta de serviços complementares que incluam uma rede viária de fácil acesso e aeroporto nas imediações, alojamento e restauração existem as condições necessárias para desenvolver (novos) produtos locais. Viana do Castelo, cidade do nordeste português localizada no topo do país, reúne os recursos naturais, culturais e os serviços descritos atrás, razão pela qual foi alvo da concepção de um guia turístico virtual, com o objectivo de desenvolver e promover os seus produtos (turísticos) na comunidade local. Denominado "MWC", Museu Virtual Viana do Castelo, o guia turístico virtual estará escrito em português. Pretende ser traduzido noutros idiomas, inclusive para língua gestual e Braille. ABSTRACT; EU defends the creation of new touristic products, underlining each country has its own potentialities. To create new touristic products, mean to develop the local opportunities there are to be worked out. If there are natural resources, cultural resources, as well services supported by a good road network including airport nearby, several kind of accommodation and catering services it is possible to create new (local) products. Viana do Castelo is a Portuguese city, located in the Norwest top of Portugal. It meets all the resources mentioned above and other more, the reason why it is being conceived a virtual touristic guide, to develop and to promete its products among its local community. Named "MWC”, the Viana do Castelo Virtual Museum will be written in Portuguese language and later on in another language, sign languages and Braille.

The use of virtual social networks (VSNs) has been prevalent among consumers worldwide. Numerous studies have investigated various aspects of VSNs. However, these studies have mainly focused on students and young adults as they were early adopters of these innovative networks. A search of the literature revealed there has been a paucity of research on adult consumers’ use of VSNs. This research study addressed this gap in the literature by examining the determinants of engagement in VSNs among adult consumers in Singapore. The objectives of this study are to empirically investigate the determinants of engagement in VSNs and to offer theoretical insights into consumers’ preference and usage of VSNs. This study tapped upon several theories developed in the discipline of technology and innovation adoption. These were Roger’s Diffusion of Innovation, Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA), Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Conceptual Framework of Individual Innovation Adoption by Frambach and Schillewaert (2002), Enhanced Model of Innovation Adoption by Talukder (2011), Extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2) and the Information Systems (IS) Success Model. The proposed research model, named the Media Usage Model (MUM), is a framework rooted in innovation diffusion and IS theories. The MUM distilled the essence of these established models and thus provides an updated, lucid explanation of engagement in VSNs. A cross-sectional, online social survey was conducted to collect quantitative data to examine the validity of the proposed research model. Multivariate data analysis was carried out on a data set comprising 806 usable responses by utilizing SPSS, and for structural equation modeling AMOS and SmartPLS. The results indicate that consumer attitude towards VSNs is significantly and positively influenced by: three individual factors – hedonic motivation, incentives and experience; two system characteristics – system quality and information quality; and one social factor – social bonding. Consumer demographics were found to influence people’s attitudes towards VSNs. In addition, consumer experience and attitude towards VSNs significantly and positively influence their usage of VSNs. The empirical data supported the proposed research model, explaining 80% of variance in attitude towards VSNs and 45% of variance in usage of VSNs. Therefore, the MUM achieves a definite contribution to theoretical knowledge of consumer engagement in VSNs by deepening and broadening our appreciation of the intricacies related to use of VSNs in Singapore. This study’s findings have implications for customer service management, services marketing and consumer behavior. These findings also have strategic implications for maximizing efficient utilization and effective management of VSNs by businesses and operators. The contributions of this research are: firstly, shifting the boundaries of technology or innovation adoption theories from research on employees to consumers as well as the boundaries of Internet usage or adoption research from students to adults, which is also known as empirical generalization; secondly, highlighting the issues associated with lack of significance of social factors in adoption research; and thirdly, augmenting information systems research by integrating important antecedents for success in information systems.

Paper prepared by Marion Panizzon and Charlotte Sieber-Gasser for the International Conference on the Political Economy of Liberalising Trade in Services, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, 14-15 June 2010 Recent literature has shed light on the economic potential of cross-border networks. These networks, consisting of expatriates and their acquaintances from abroad and at home, provide the basis for the creation of cross-border value added chains and therewith the means for turning brain drain into brain circulation. Both aspects are potentially valuable for economic growth in the developing world. Unilateral co-development policies operating through co-funding of expatriate business ventures, but also bilateral agreements liberalising circular migration for a limited set of per-sons testify to the increasing awareness of governments about the potential, which expatriate networks hold for economic growth in developing countries. Whereas such punctual efforts are valuable, viewed from a long term perspective, these top-down, government mandated Diaspora stimulation programs, will not replace, this paper argues, the market-driven liberalisation of infrastructure and other services in developing countries. Nor will they carry, in the case of circular labour migration, the political momentum to liberalise labour market admission for those non-nationals, who will eventually emerge as the future transnational entrepreneurs. It will take a combination of mode 4 and infrastructure services openings-cum regulation for countries at both sides of the spectrum to provide the basis and precondition for transnational business and entrepreneurial networks to emerge and translate into cross-border, value added production chains. Two key issues are of particular relevance in this context: (i) the services sector, especially in infrastructure, tends to suffer from inefficiencies, particularly in developing countries, and (ii) labour migration, a highly complex issue, still faces disproportionately rigid barriers despite well-documented global welfare gains. Both are hindrances for emerging markets to fully take advantage of the potential of these cross-border networks. Adapting the legal framework for enhancing the regulatory and institutional frameworks for services trade, especially in infrastructure services sectors (ISS) and labour migration could provide the incentives necessary for brain circulation and strengthen cross-border value added chains by lowering transaction costs. This paper analyses the shortfalls of the global legal framework – the shallow status quo of GATS commitments in ISS and mode 4 particular – in relation to stimulating brain circulation and the creation of cross-border value added chains in emerging markets. It highlights the necessity of adapting the legal framework, both on the global and the regional level, to stimulate broader and wider market access in the four key ISS sectors (telecommunications, transport, professional and financial services) in developing countries, as domestic supply capacity, global competitiveness and economic diversification in ISS sectors are necessary for mobilising expatriate re-turns, both physical and virtual. The paper argues that industrialised, labour receiving countries need to offer mode 4 market access to wider categories of persons, especially to students, graduate trainees and young professionals from abroad. Further-more, free trade in semi-finished products and mode 4 market access are crucial for the creation of cross-border value added chains across the developing world. Finally, the paper discusses on the basis of a case study on Jordan why the key features of trade agreements, which promote circular migration and the creation of cross-border value added chains, consist of trade liberalisation in services and liberal migration policies.

In recent years, we have witnessed substantial exploitation of real-time streaming applications, such as video surveillance system on road crosses of a city. So far, real world applications mainly rely on the traditional well-known client-server and peer-to-peer schemes as the fundamental mechanism for communication. However, due to the limited resources on each terminal device in the applications, these two schemes cannot well leverage the processing capability between the source and destination of the video traffic, which leads to limited streaming services. For this reason, many QoS sensitive application cannot be supported in the real world. In this paper, we are motivated to address this problem by proposing a novel multi-server based framework. In this framework, multiple servers collaborate with each other to form a virtual server (also called cloud-server), and provide high-quality services such as real-time streams delivery and storage. Based on this framework, we further introduce a (1-?) approximation algorithm to solve the NP-complete "maximum services"(MS) problem with the intention of handling large number of streaming flows originated by networks and maximizing the total number of services. Moreover, in order to backup the streaming data for later retrieval, based on the framework, an algorithm is proposed to implement backups and maximize streaming flows simultaneously. We conduct a series of experiments based on simulations to evaluate the performance of the newly proposed framework. We also compare our scheme to several traditional solutions. The results suggest that our proposed scheme significantly outperforms the traditional solutions.

Because of the strong demands of physical resources of big data, it is an effective and efficient way to store and process big data in clouds, as cloud computing allows on-demand resource provisioning. With the increasing requirements for the resources provisioned by cloud platforms, the Quality of Service (QoS) of cloud services for big data management is becoming significantly important. Big data has the character of sparseness, which leads to frequent data accessing and processing, and thereby causes huge amount of energy consumption. Energy cost plays a key role in determining the price of a service and should be treated as a first-class citizen as other QoS metrics, because energy saving services can achieve cheaper service prices and environmentally friendly solutions. However, it is still a challenge to efficiently schedule Virtual Machines (VMs) for service QoS enhancement in an energy-aware manner. In this paper, we propose an energy-aware dynamic VM scheduling method for QoS enhancement in clouds over big data to address the above challenge. Specifically, the method consists of two main VM migration phases where computation tasks are migrated to servers with lower energy consumption or higher performance to reduce service prices and execution time. Extensive experimental evaluation demonstrates the effectiveness and efficiency of our method.
