John Miller (1774-1862) was a physician and politician who served in the United States Congress as a representative from New York from 1825-1827. He began his medical practice in Washington County, N.Y. in 1798. In 1801 he moved to Fabius, Onondaga County, N.Y. (now Truxton, Cortland County). He served as postmaster at Truxton from 1805-1825, a justice of the peace from 1812-1821 and in the State Assembly in 1817, 1820 and 1845. Archibald McIntire [McIntyre] (1772-1858) was a businessman and politician. He immigrated to the United States with his family and settled in New York City around 1773. He was a member of the New York State Assembly from 1798-1821 (intermittently), in the New York State Senate form 1822-1826 and was New York State Comptroller from 1806-1821.

Bouleversements démographiques, pressions assimilatrices, défaites militaires et rivalités territoriales : ce mémoire étudie les transformations que connaît la société Cherokee sous l’impulsion de ces forces au cours du «long XVIIIe siècle» qui débute avec l’intensification des contacts avec les colons anglais vers 1700 et qui se termine avec la déportation des Cherokees vers l’Indian Territory, dans l’actuel Oklahoma, à la fin des années 1830. Son regard porte principalement la centralisation des institutions politiques, la transformation des règles qui définissent l’appartenance à la nation, et l’évolution des rôles des genres dans la famille et dans l’économie pendant la période entre la signature du traité de paix de 1794 et l’adoption par les Cherokees d’une Constitution fortement inspirée de celle des États-Unis, en 1827.

Averiguar en qué medida afectó la Ilustración a la educación en Navarra y más concretamente en Pamplona y en relación a la educación de la mujer. Se estudió primero el contexto histórico de la educación en la España ilustrada para tratar después la Enseñanza Primaria en Pamplona: aspectos jurídicos, organizativos, y cuantitativos, los fines y contenidos de la educación. El núcleo del trabajo está constituido por un estudio de la educación de la mujer en Pamplona en una época en que Navarra conservaba una independencia jurídica en materia de educación. Documentación sobre instrucción pública en archivos (Municipal de Pamplona, General de Navarra y Diocesano de Pamplona). Existe en Pamplona en aquella época un control de la enseñanza por parte de los organismos dirigentes que abarca todos los aspectos de la vida escolar. Los rasgos ilustrados que se aprecian en esta población son el afán de limitar y controlar la enseñanza privada y el de extender la educación a toda la población con fines utilitarios, sin embargo la tendencia hacia la secularización propia de la Ilustración apenas tendrá eco en Pamplona, donde las creencias religiosas impregnan toda la educación. La educación de la mujer empieza a adquirir un auge extraordinario y sus programas de estudio se van haciendo más completos hasta igualarse prácticamente con los masculinos. Las fuentes examinadas dan noticia de la existencia de algunos rasgos ilustrados en la enseñanza pero sobre todo de la existencia de una auténtica realidad educativa en Pamplona.

Acercar la figura y la obra del Padre Manuel Martínez. El Padre Manuel Martínez dio un gran paso en la enseñanza, con respecto a todos los que le precedieron y a los planes anteriores. Ha sido el verdadero autor del plan de Estudios de 1824, consiguiendo la uniformidad de los estudios universitarios.
