Following up the work of 1] on deformed algebras, we present a class of Poincare invariant quantum field theories with particles having deformed internal symmetries. The twisted quantum fields discussed in this work satisfy commutation relations different from the usual bosonic/fermionic commutation relations. Such twisted fields by construction are nonlocal in nature. Despite this nonlocality we show that it is possible to construct interaction Hamiltonians which satisfy cluster decomposition principle and are Lorentz invariant. We further illustrate these ideas by considering global SU(N) symmetries. Specifically we show that twisted internal symmetries can provide a natural-framework for the discussion of the marginal deformations (beta-deformations) of the N = 4 SUSY theories.

This paper deals with a study of the photophysical property of poly(ether imine) (PETIM) dendritic macromolecule in the presence of aromatic compounds. The inherent photoluminescence property of the dendrimer undergoes quenching in the presence of guest aromatic nitro-compounds. From life-time measurements study, it is inferred that the lifetimes of luminescent species of the dendrimer are not affected with nitrophenols as guest molecules, whereas nitrobenzenes show a marginal change in the lifetimes of the species. Raman spectral characteristic of the macromolecular host-guest complex is conducted in order to identify conformational change of the dendrimer and a significant change in the stretching frequencies of methylene moieties of the dendrimer is observed for the complex with 1,3,5-trinitrobenzene, when compared to other complexes, free host and guest molecules. The photophysical behavior of electron-rich, aliphatic, neutral dendritic macromolecule in the presence of electron-deficient aromatic molecules is illustrated in the present study. Regular vaccinations with potent vaccine, in endemic countries and vaccination to live in non-endemic countries are the methods available to control foot-and-mouth disease. Selection of candidate vaccine strain is not only cumbersome but the candidate should grow well for high potency vaccine preparation. Alternative strategy is to generate an infectious cDNA of a cell culture-adapted virus and use the replicon for development of tailor-made vaccines. We produced a chimeric `O' virus in the backbone of Asia 1 and studied its characteristics. The chimeric virus showed high infectivity titre (>10(10)) in BHK 21 cell lines, revealed small plague morphology and there was no cross reactivity with antiserum against Asia I. The virus multiplies rapidly and reaches peak at 12 h post infection. The vaccine prepared with this virus elicited high antibody titres.

A circuit topology based on accumulate-and-use philosophy has been developed to harvest RF energy from ambient radiations such as those from cellular towers. Main functional units of this system are antenna, tuned rectifier, supercapacitor, a gated boost converter and the necessary power management circuits. Various RF aspects of the design philosophy for maximizing the conversion efficiency at an input power level of 15 mu W are presented here. The system is characterized in an anechoic chamber and it has been established that this topology can harvest RF power densities as low as 180 mu W/m(2) and can adaptively operate the load depending on the incident radiation levels. The output of this system can be easily configured at a desired voltage in the range 2.2-4.5 V. A practical CMOS load - a low power wireless radio module has been demonstrated to operate intermittently by this approach. This topology can be easily modified for driving other practical loads, from harvested RF energy at different frequencies and power levels.

PCAF (KAT2B) belongs to the GNAT family of lysine acetyltransferases (KAT) and specifically acetylates the histone H3K9 residue and several nonhistone proteins. PCAF is also a transcriptional coactivator. Due to the lack of a PCAF KAT-specific small molecule inhibitor, the exclusive role of the acetyltransferase activity of PCAF is not well understood. Here, we report that a natural compound of the hydroxybenzoquinone class, embelin, specifically inhibits H3Lys9 acetylation in mice and inhibits recombinant PCAF-mediated acetylation with near complete specificity in vitro. Furthermore, using embelin, we have identified the gene networks that are regulated by PCAF during muscle differentiation, further highlighting the broader regulatory functions of PCAF in muscle differentiation in addition to the regulation via MyoD acetylation.

The issue of intermittency in numerical solutions of the 3D Navier-Stokes equations on a periodic box 0, L](3) is addressed through four sets of numerical simulations that calculate a new set of variables defined by D-m(t) = (pi(-1)(0) Omega(m))(alpha m) for 1 <= m <= infinity where alpha(m) = 2m/(4m - 3) and Omega(m)(t)](2m) = L-3 integral(v) vertical bar omega vertical bar(2m) dV with pi(0) = vL(-2). All four simulations unexpectedly show that the D-m are ordered for m = 1,..., 9 such that Dm+1 < D-m. Moreover, the D-m squeeze together such that Dm+1/D-m NE arrow 1 as m increases. The values of D-1 lie far above the values of the rest of the D-m, giving rise to a suggestion that a depletion of nonlinearity is occurring which could be the cause of Navier-Stokes regularity. The first simulation is of very anisotropic decaying turbulence; the second and third are of decaying isotropic turbulence from random initial conditions and forced isotropic turbulence at fixed Grashof number respectively; the fourth is of very-high-Reynolds-number forced, stationary, isotropic turbulence at up to resolutions of 4096(3).

Cardiac fibroblasts, when coupled functionally with myocytes, can modulate the electrophysiological properties of cardiac tissue. We present systematic numerical studies of such modulation of electrophysiological properties in mathematical models for (a) single myocyte-fibroblast (MF) units and (b) two-dimensional (2D) arrays of such units; our models build on earlier ones and allow for zero-, one-, and two-sided MF couplings. Our studies of MF units elucidate the dependence of the action-potential (AP) morphology on parameters such as E-f, the fibroblast resting-membrane potential, the fibroblast conductance G(f), and the MF gap-junctional coupling G(gap). Furthermore, we find that our MF composite can show autorhythmic and oscillatory behaviors in addition to an excitable response. Our 2D studies use (a) both homogeneous and inhomogeneous distributions of fibroblasts, (b) various ranges for parameters such as G(gap), G(f), and E-f, and (c) intercellular couplings that can be zero-sided, one-sided, and two-sided connections of fibroblasts with myocytes. We show, in particular, that the plane-wave conduction velocity CV decreases as a function of G(gap), for zero-sided and one-sided couplings; however, for two-sided coupling, CV decreases initially and then increases as a function of G(gap), and, eventually, we observe that conduction failure occurs for low values of G(gap). In our homogeneous studies, we find that the rotation speed and stability of a spiral wave can be controlled either by controlling G(gap) or E-f. Our studies with fibroblast inhomogeneities show that a spiral wave can get anchored to a local fibroblast inhomogeneity. We also study the efficacy of a low-amplitude control scheme, which has been suggested for the control of spiral-wave turbulence in mathematical models for cardiac tissue, in our MF model both with and without heterogeneities.

We show that a shell-model version of the three-dimensional Hall-magnetohydrodynamic (3D Hall-MHD) equations provides a natural theoretical model for investigating the multiscaling behaviors of velocity and magnetic structure functions. We carry out extensive numerical studies of this shell model, obtain the scaling exponents for its structure functions, in both the low-k and high-k power-law ranges of three-dimensional Hall-magnetohydrodynamic, and find that the extended-self-similarity procedure is helpful in extracting the multiscaling nature of structure functions in the high-k regime, which otherwise appears to display simple scaling. Our results shed light on intriguing solar-wind measurements.

We consider the problem of joint routing, scheduling and power control in a multihop wireless network when the nodes have multiple antennas. We focus on exploiting the multiple degrees-of-freedom available at each transmitter and receiver due to multiple antennas. Specifically we use multiple antennas at each node to form multiple access and broadcast links in the network rather than just point to point links. We show that such a generic transmission model improves the system performance significantly. Since the complexity of the resulting optimization problem is very high, we also develop efficient suboptimal solutions for joint routing, scheduling and power control in this setup.

We undertake a systematic, direct numerical simulation of the twodimensional, Fourier-truncated, Gross-Pitaevskii equation to study the turbulent evolutions of its solutions for a variety of initial conditions and a wide range of parameters. We find that the time evolution of this system can be classified into four regimes with qualitatively different statistical properties. Firstly, there are transients that depend on the initial conditions. In the second regime, powerlaw scaling regions, in the energy and the occupation-number spectra, appear and start to develop; the exponents of these power laws and the extents of the scaling regions change with time and depend on the initial condition. In the third regime, the spectra drop rapidly for modes with wave numbers k > kc and partial thermalization takes place for modes with k < kc; the self-truncation wave number kc(t) depends on the initial conditions and it grows either as a power of t or as log t. Finally, in the fourth regime, complete thermalization is achieved and, if we account for finite-size effects carefully, correlation functions and spectra are consistent with their nontrivial Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless forms. Our work is a natural generalization of recent studies of thermalization in the Euler and other hydrodynamical equations; it combines ideas from fluid dynamics and turbulence, on the one hand, and equilibrium and nonequilibrium statistical mechanics on the other.

This Review article discusses dendritic organometallic catalysis, originating from catalytic moieties present at the peripheries of a dendrimer. The presence of multiple catalytic moieties at the dendrimer peripheries leads to a positive effect in majority of the homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis, although a negative or a marginal improvement in the catalytic effect with respect to the corresponding monomeric catalyst were also encountered. A number of recent examples that attempt to rationalize the origin of the dendrimer effect in catalysis are discussed. Further a tabular survey is provided by categorizing the dendritic catalysts and their influence on catalysis. Recent studies on the multivalent dendritic catalysts, wherein varied number of catalytic moieties is installed within a given generation, are utilized to emphasize the role of clustering catalytic moieties at the peripheries of the dendrimers in influencing the catalysis. Sustainability has emerged as one of the important planning concepts from its beginnings in economics and ecological thinking, and has widely been applied to assessing urban development. Different methods, techniques and instruments for urban sustainability assessment that help determine how cities can become more sustainable have emerged over a period of time. Among these, indicator-based approaches contribute to building of sustainable self-regulated systems that integrate development and environment protection. Hence, these provide a solid foundation for decision-making at all levels and are being increasingly used. The present paper builds on the background of the available literature and suggests the need for benchmarking indicator-based approach in a given urban area and incorporating various local issues, thus enhancing the long-term sustainability of cities which can be developed by introducing sustainability indicators into the urban planning process. Electric-field induced nonlinear actuation behavior is demonstrated in a bulk nanotube (CNT) structure under ambient conditions. Completely recoverable and non-degradable actuation over several cycles of electric-field is measured in these structures. A symmetric and polarity independent displacement corresponding up to an axial strain of 14% is measured upon application of a low strength electric field of 4.2 kV/m in the axial direction. However, a much lower strain of similar to 1% is measured in the radial (or, transverse) direction. Furthermore, the electric field induced actuation increases by more than a factor of 2 upon impregnating the CNT cellular structure with copper oxide nano-particles. An electrostriction mechanism, based on the electric-field induced polarization of CNT strands, is proposed to account for the reported actuation behavior. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
