Utilisation en tomoscintigraphie d'anticorps monoclonaux radio-marqués pour la détection chez l'homme des cancers digestifs et des cancers médullaires de la thyroïde

Two 131-Iodine radiolabelled monoclonal antibodies were used to perform tomoscintigraphy in 42 patients: 11 patients bearing medullary thyroid cancers and 19 patients bearing gastrointestinal cancers received an antibody directed against carcino-embryonic antigen; 12 patients bearing gastro-intestinal cancers received an antibody directed against a non circulating antigen expressed by human colorectal cancers cell lines. Tomoscintigraphy is particularly useful for analysing the complex biodistribution of radiolabelled antibodies and the low contrast images encountered in immunoscintigraphy; the problems related to the true positive rate and to the clinical specificity of the method are discussed.

Estructura comunitaria del fitoplancton durante el crucero BIC Humboldt 9709-10, de Matarani Paita

Estudia la composición y distribución del fitoplancton en superficie, registradas durante el crucero de evaluación hidroacústica de recursos pelágicos. del 1° de setiembre al 11 de octubre 1997, entre Matarani y Paita, hasta las 100 mn. Los volúmenes de plancton fluctuaron de <0,5 a 8,0 mL/m3, registrándose los mayores valores promedio, 3,5 mL/m3, dentro de las 30 mn. Las especies que tipificaron la franja costera (30 mn) correspondieron a diatomeas neríticas de afloramiento acompañadas de organismos cosmopolitas, además de presentar una gran riqueza de especies que soportan altas temperaturas. Esta composición alterada evidencia la presencia del evento El Niño 1997.

Composición bioquímica y distribución de la materia orgánica sedimentaria y sus efectos sobre la estructura comunitaria de la meiofauna en la plataforma continental frente a Callao.

Se estudió la composición y distribución de la materia orgánica sedimentaria en términos de Carbohidratos, Lípidos y Proteínas, así como sus repercusiones sobre la estructura comunitaria de la meiofauna metazoaria (abundancia, biomasa y diversidad a nivel de grandes grupos), además, se estima su rol en el flujo de energía del sub-sistema bentónico mediante el cálculo de la producción secundaria y respiración frente a las costas de Perú Central, Callao (12ºS). Las muestras se recolectaron en el mes de Abril del año 2010, en un gradiente batimétrico en cinco estaciones: Estación E1 (48m) y E2 (93m) correspondiente a la plataforma interna, estación E3 (117m) correspondiente a la plataforma intermedia y la estación E4 (143m) y E5 (148m) correspondiente a la plataforma externa. En cada estación se determinaron parámetros fisicoquímicos como oxígeno disuelto, salinidad y temperatura. Asimismo se determinó el contenido de pigmentos fotosintéticos (clorofila- a y feopigmentos) en la columna de sedimento.

Radio-immunothérapie du lymphome folliculaire: un pas vers la guérison [Radioimmunotherapy of follicular lymphoma: a step towards cure?]

Advanced stage follicular lymphoma is incurable by conventional treatment. Important progress has been observed with the development of new therapies based on monoclonal antibodies and on the use of radioimmunotherapy (RIT) in the treatment of non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHL). Rituximab in combination with chemotherapy in the upfront setting significantly improved treatment outcome as compared with chemotherapy alone. Different studies also indicate that RIT has an important role in the management of NHL and could be beneficial in combination with chemotherapy. These two new treatment options have clearly distinctive mechanisms of action, rituximab being an exclusively biological treatment and RIT adding targeted systemic radiation therapy. Both RIT and the unlabeled antibody treatments might be further improved by different strategies including repetition of RIT or combination of different antibodies. We present here our experience with RIT using 131I-tositumomab (Bexxar) and discuss different topics regarding RIT, like the use of different antibodies, the best choice of the radioisotope or the place of radio-imaging. From the therapeutic point of view, we argue that the debate should not be as to which one among antibody immunotherapy or RIT should be best added to chemotherapy, but that all three treatments might be optimally combined with the aim to get the highest chance of cure for advanced stage follicular lymphoma.
