A master-oscillator fiber power amplifier (MOPA) system with a 4-m-long Yb3+-doped homemade large mode area (LMA) double-clad fiber is reported. The system emits up to 133.8 W of amplified radiation at a wavelength of 1064 nm and a repetition rate of 100 kHz, limited only by the available pump power. Peak power of 300 kW at 20 kHz with a pulse duration of 15 ns is obtained. (c) 2006 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers.

利用激光诱导等离子体开关技术,在1064nm的Nd:YAG固体激光器上获得了脉宽4.4~6.4ns的短脉冲激光输出。激光电离空气产生的等离子体开关控制脉冲宽度时,聚焦透镜焦距越短,压缩后的脉宽越窄,但激光能量损耗越大。压缩后的激光脉宽与激光能量近似成双曲线关系。在控制脉宽光路的焦点处放置带孔的Cu薄片可抑制等离子体的扩散,得到了脉宽最短可达4.4ns的激光输出。

利用准分子激光等离子体技术,在紫外预电离XeCl准分子激光器上获得了最短1.58ns的短脉冲激光输出。实验中分析了聚焦到薄膜表面的光束能量密度对所产生的等离子体密度的影响,并对不同等离子体密度及维持时间情况下脉冲压缩效果进行了讨论,给出了激光器谐振腔在稳定腔及非稳腔两种工作方式下的实验结果。激光器在稳定腔工作时,脉宽可压缩至2.87ns采用非稳腔结构时,在脉冲能量不变情况下减小聚焦光斑面积,提高入射到薄膜表面的能量密度,得到了最短1.58ns的短脉冲激光输出。该技术适用于任何其它准分子器件。

The heat generation in a flashlamp-pumped Nd:glass disk amplifier is studied by the simulation of the whole pumping process, which is based on the ray-tracing method. The results of temperature rise distribution as well as gain distribution are presented. The evolution of heat generation in disk during the pumping process is discussed in detail. Some main factors related with the thermal effect, such as the quantum efficiency, fluorescence lifetime, and pulse duration, are investigated through studying the ratio of the heat generation to energy storage in the gain medium. The influence of each parameter on heat generation is studied carefully, and the results provide ways to decrease the heat generation during the pumping process. A novel laser resonator for compensating depolarization loss that is due to thermally induced birefringence in active rod is reported. As this new structure being applied to an electro-optic Q-switched LIDA side-pumped Nd:YAG laser operating at a repetition rate of 1000 Hz, substantial reduction in depolarization loss has been observed, the output pulse energy is improved about 56% from that of a traditional resonator without compensation structure. With incident pump energy of 450 mJ per pulse, linearly polarized output energy of 30 mJ per pulse is achieved, the pulse duration is less than 15 ns, and the peak power of pulse is about 2 MW. The extinction ratio of laser beam is better than 10:1, and the beam divergence is 1.3 mrad with beam diameter of around 2.5 mm. (c) 2006 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Cr2+掺杂II-VI族化合物在中红外波段的输出,在气体检测、遥感、通信、眼科医学、神经外科等领域有着重要的应用前景。目前已经获得了最大1.7 W的连续输出功率,18.5 W的平均脉冲功率,1100 nm的调谐范围和最窄4 ps的脉宽。对Cr2+:ZnSe连续、脉冲、随机纳米激光器以及其它的Cr2+掺杂II-VI族化合物激光器的最新的国内外研究进展进行了综述。

We demonstrate passive Q-switching of short-length double-clad Tm3+-doped silica fiber lasers near 2 mu m pumped by a laser diode array (LDA) at 790 nm. Polycrystalline Cr2+:ZnSe microchips with thickness from 0.3 to 1 mm are adopted as the Q-switching elements. Pulse duration of 120 ns, pulse energy over 14 mu] and repetition rate of 53 kHz are obtained from a 5-cm long fiber laser. As high as 530 kHz repetition rate is achieved from a 50-cm long fiber laser at similar to 10-W pump power. The performance of the Q-switched fiber lasers as a function of fiber length is also analyzed. (c) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A simple actively Q-switched double-clad fiber laser combining an amplifying cavity is reported by using a dynamic acoustooptic Q-switching as a beam splitter. Sub-100-ns. pulses independence of the repetition rate of acoustooptic modulator are almost changeless with repetition rate varied from 50 kHz to 1.5 MHz. With 4.5-W absorbed power, 9.4-W peak-power pulses at 1.5-MHz repetition rate with 75-ns pulse duration are generated.

For the first time, to the best of our knowledge, a radially polarized laser pulse was produced from a passively Q-switched Nd:YAG ceramic microchip laser with a piece of Cr4+:YAG crystal as the saturable absorber and multilayer concentric subwavelength grating as the polarization-selective output coupler. The averaged laser power reached 450 mW with a slope efficiency of 30.2%. The laser pulse had a maximum peak power of 759 W, a minimum pulse duration of 86 ns, and a 6.7 kHz repetition rate at 3.7 W absorbed pump power. The polarization degree of the radially polarized pulse was measured to be as high as 97.4%. Such a radially polarized laser pulse with a high peak power and a short width is important to numerous applications such as metal cutting. (C) 2008 Optical Society of America

研究了氙灯抽运脉宽、输出耦合镜的反射率、铒玻璃工作温度以及工作重复频率对铬镱铒共掺磷酸盐玻璃激光输出能量的影响。结果表明, 对于输出能量, 抽运脉宽为2.3 ms(10%最大幅度间)时较好; 综合考虑激光阈值和斜率效率, 输出耦合镜的反射率为85%时较好。此外, 如同大多数激光介质那样, 铬镱铒共掺磷酸盐玻璃的激光输出能量随铒玻璃工作温度的升高和工作重复频率的增加而降低。

By using a continuous-wave Ti:sapphire laser as a pumping source, we demonstrated a passively Q-switched Yb:YAG laser at room temperature with Cr4+:YAG as the saturable absorber. We achieved an average output power of as much as 55 mW at 1.03 mum with a pulse width (FWHM) as short as 350 ns. The initial transmission of the Cr4+:YAG has an effect on the pulse duration (FWHM) and the repetition rate of the Yb:YAG passively Q-switched laser. The Yb:YAG crystal can be a most promising passively Q-switched laser crystal for compact, efficient, solid-state lasers. (C) 2001 Optical Society of America.

By use of a laser diode as a pump source, a self-Q-switched laser from a Cr,Nd:YAG crystal is demonstrated. The output Q-switched traces are very stable, the threshold pump power is 3.5 W, the pulse duration is 50 ns, and the slope efficiency is as high as 20%. In addition, the pulse width remains constant while the pulse repetition rate Varies with pump power. High-quality Nd:LuVO4 single crystal was successfully grown by Czochralski method. The assessment of the crystalline quality by the chemical etching method and Conoscope image was reported. The absorption spectra from 300 to 1000 nm and emission spectra from 960 to 1450 nm of Nd: LuVO4 were measured. Laser performance was achieved with Nd:LUVO4 crystal for the transition of F-4(3/2) -> I-4(11/2) (corresponding wavelength 1065.8 nm) in an actively Q-switched operation, and the average output power reached 5.42 W at a pulse repetition frequency (PRF) of 40 kHz under pump power of 18 W, giving an optical conversion efficiency of 30.1%. The pulse energy and peak power reached 138 mu J and 16.2 kW at PRF of 25 kHz under pump power of 14.2 W, and the pulse duration was 8.5 ns. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Passive Q-switching of a diode-pumped Yb:LYSO laser at 1060 nm with a Yb3+ ions-doped CaF2 crystal without the excited-state absorption (ESA) was demonstrated. An average output power of 174 mW with pulse duration of 5.6 mu s and repetition rate of 27 kHz have been obtained under the unoptimized conditions. And the Q-switching conversion efficiency was as high as 51.7%. (c) 2007 Optical Society of America.

We demonstrated continuous-wave ( CW) and Q-switched operation of a room-temperature Ho: YAlO3 laser that is resonantly end-pumped by a diode-pumped Tm: YLF laser at 1.91 mu m. The CW Ho: YAlO3 laser generated 5.5 W of linearly polarized (E parallel to c) output at 2118 nm with beam quality factor of M-2 approximate to 1.1 for an incident pump power of 13.8 W, corresponding to optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 40%. Up to 1-mJ energy per pulse at pulse repetition frequency (PRF) of 5 kHz, and the maximum average power of 5.3-W with FWHM pulse duration of 30.5 ns at 20 kHz were achieved in Q-switched mode.
