A high sensitivity SRI sensor was fabricated by inscribing an ex-TFG in a thin cladding fiber, achieving enhanced SRI sensitivities of the TM and TE resonance peaks around 1180nm/RIU and 1150nm/RIU at the index of 1.345. © 2014 OSA.

A hybrid structure comprising of a 45° and an 81° TFG based RI sensor has been demonstrated. The experiment results show a higher RI sensitivity, being around 180nm/RIU at RI=1.345 and 926nm/RIU at RI=1.412 region. © 2014 OSA.

This review paper summarises the current state of research into polymer optical fibre grating sensors. The properties of polymers are explored to identify situations where polymers offer potential advantages over more conventional silica fibre sensing technology. Photosensitivity is discussed and the sensitivities of polymer fibre gratings to strain, temperature and water are described. Finally, applications are reported which utilise the unique properties of polymer fibres.

We report an optical spectrum analyzer utilizing direct side-tapping by a 45° tilted fiber grating. The angular dispersion is analyzed and 45° is found to give highest dispersion. High resolution up to 0.13nm was obtained. © 2012 Optical Society of America.

We report all-fibre Lyot filters formed by concatenating fibre gratings with structure tilted at 45° UV-inscribed in PM fibre. Such polarisation filters exhibit distinct transmission property for potential application in fibre lasers and sensors. © 2012 OSA.

Absorption, photoluminescence, and photoluminescence excitation spectra of solutions and thin films of N-vinylcarbazole polymers and copolymers with various substituents directly on the carbazole moiety and on the polymer chain were studied comprehensively. Polymers that were used previously to develop polymer composites with polymethine dyes having photosensitivity over a broad spectral range including the visible and near-IR regions were selected for the studies.

Polymer optical fibre Bragg gratings are useful for strain sensor applications for large dynamic range. We report recent progress in developing polymer optical fibres with higher photosensitivity and fabricating POF gratings at alternative wavelength. © 2010 Optical Society of America.
