Good afternoon, and thank you for inviting me to be here with you today. One of the things I'm enjoying most in my new position as University of Nebraska Vice President of Agriculture and Natural Resources and Harlan Vice Chancellor of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources is meeting the people who live in this state, in urban and rural areas, from Scottsbluff to Omaha, from Lincoln to Curtis, and at any number of towns - north, south, east, west - in between.

Club drug use and unprotected anal intercourse among HIV-seronegative men who have sex with men seeking HIV/STD testing at a local STD clinic in Houston

Objective. To explore (1) the association between "club drug" use and unprotected anal intercourse (UAI) and (2) the association between binge drug use and UAI among HIV seronegative men who have sex with men (MSM) seeking HIV/STD testing at a local clinic in Houston. ^ Study design. A sub-sample of 297 HIV seronegative MSM from a cross-sectional study of drug and sexual behavior in Houston was conducted in 2006. Patients who were seeking HIV/STD testing at a local MSM-identified STD clinic were recruited for an anonymous computer-assisted interview. Analysis of identified secondary data consisted of self-reported information about demographic characteristics, use of drugs, and sexual behaviors. ^ Results. With new and casual sex partners, there was a strong and statistically significant association between use of "club drugs" and UAI. No association between binge drug use and UAI was evident. Men aware of HIV seropositivity or unaware of the HIV serostatus of their primary partner were less likely to report UAI. ^ Conclusion. These data suggest that in the Houston area, HIV-negative MSM club drug users, particularly multiple drug users, are at higher risk of UAI than comparable MSMs who do not use club drugs. Episode-level data regarding binge use of these and other drugs, and UAI should be collected in future studies to explore their relationship. The 'new partner' category should be added to sex partner types to measure sex and drug use behaviors in future studies.^ Keywords. La ricerca ha scelto di affrontare una serie di problemi connessi alla valorizzazione e alla conservazione del materiale pubblicitario rispetto a un caso studio selezionato, l’archivio dell’Art Directors Club Italiano conservato presso il Centro Studi e Archivio della Comunicazione dell’Università di Parma. Questo archivio è costituito principalmente da materiali della comunicazione pubblicitaria - suddivisi in categorie corrispondenti a media e tecniche - iscritti dal 1998 al 2003 agli ADCI Awards, il premio italiano di riferimento dedicato alla pubblicità e organizzato dall’Art Directors Club Italiano - ADCI a partire dall’anno della sua fondazione, il 1985. La sua storia è quindi connessa strettamente con quella dell’associazione, che rappresenta e riunisce professionisti della pubblicità che condividono obiettivi comuni, e in particolare il riconoscimento e la valorizzazione della creatività come elemento fondante della comunicazione d’impresa e istituzionale. Lo CSAC in parallelo, il contesto archivistico all’interno del quale questi fondi sono venuti a trovarsi in seguito alla donazione da parte dell’ADCI nel 2002-2003, è un centro di ricerca dell’Università di Parma dedicato alla conservazione e allo studio di archivi provenienti da diversi ambiti culturali. A partire da una mappatura dell’archivio e dalla ricostruzione di contesti e dibattiti fondamentali per studiare e organizzare i fondi, questa tesi si propone di individuare, in particolare attraverso gli strumenti digitali, possibili modalità di analisi, esposizione e accesso ai materiali, che possano aprire una rete di connessioni verso altri ambiti di ricerca e nuove prospettive in funzione delle storie della pubblicità.

Student lectures notes on chemistry and materia medica, and medical recipes, of Lyman Spalding, 1795-1799 (inclusive)

Contains notes taken by Harvard student Lyman Spalding during eleven chemistry lectures delivered by Harvard Professor Aaron Dexter (1750-1829) in the fall of 1795 and recipes prepared and used by Spalding in his medical practice in 1797. The recipes include elixir vitriol, containing liquor, Jamaica pepper, cinnamon, and ginger, and an electuary for a cough, containing oxymel squills (sea onion in honey), licorice, antimonium tartaricum potash (a compound of the chemical element antimony and a potassium-containing salt), and opium. The volume also contains writings about chemistry by Spalding, some of which appear transcribed from published sources, in undated entries, and a diary entry from 1799 regarding an experiment with water.

Student lecture notes on the Theory & Practice of Physic, and patient case histories, of Lyman Spalding, 1795-1799 (inclusive)

Contains notes taken by Harvard student Lyman Spalding from lectures delivered by Hersey Professor of the Theory and Practice of Physic Benjamin Waterhouse (1754-1846) in 1795. The notes cover the history of medicine, theories of contemporary physicians like Herman Boerhaave, William Cullen, and John Brown, and topics like fetal growth, digestion, and circulation. The volume also contains six pages of patient case notes from Spalding’s medical practice in Walpole, New Hampshire, in 1799, which detail the patients’ symptoms and course of treatment he pursued. In the case of a young man who complained of pain in his breast following a wrestling match, Spalding bled him and prescribed a cathartic of soap and aloes. Spalding also operated on a man who cut off part of his ankle with an ax.

Student lecture notes on anatomy and surgery, and medical notes, of Lyman Spalding, 1795

Contains notes taken by Harvard student Lyman Spalding (1775-1821) from lectures on anatomy and surgery delivered by Harvard Professor John Warren (1753-1815) in 1795, as well a section entitled “Medical Observations,” which includes entries on “Vernal Debility,” or diseases occurring in the spring, and lung function. It is unclear if these are Spalding’s own writings or transcriptions from a published work. There is also text transcribed from “Elementa Medicinae,” published in 1780 by Scottish physician John Brown.
