Studies about structural integrity are very important when it desires to prevent disasters associated with flaws inherent in materials used in structural components. The welded joints in steel pipes used to conduction and distribution of oil and gas correspond to the regions most susceptible to flaw. Aiming to contribute to this research line, the present study was designed to assess experimentally the structural integrity of welded joints in steel pipes API 5L X70 used in pipeline systems. This assessment is given from tests of CTOD, whose aim is simulate in laboratory the real behaviour of crack from of his propagation on the welded joint obtained by high frequency electric resistance welding. In this case, the analyses are performed from specimens SE(B) obtained directly of steel pipe API 5L X70. The proposed methodology involves tests of CTOD at lower temperature, in order to assess the toughness of material in critical operation conditions. From performance of CTOD tests, was possible assess the toughness of welded joints in terms of quantity through CTOD parameter and in terms of quality from behaviour of curve load versus CMOD. In this study, also, sought to compare CTOD’s results obtained through rules ASTM E1820 (2008) and BS 7448 (1991). Although the two standards cited previously have adopted different parameters to calculated the value of CTOD, concluded that the values of CTOD tend to converge for a common value

Geological researches conducted in the past few years detected, through deep drill hole data, the presence of alkaline rocks in the region of Três Fontes-MG, where the Barbacena Group rocks, the Morro do Ferro Greenstone Belt rocks and Araxá/Canastra groups‟ rocks are exposed. This paper aimed the petrographic and chemical characterization of these alkaline rock types, which have not yet been described in the literature. Based on petrographic descriptions and geochemical and Scanning Electron Microscopy analysis, it was possible to characterize the rock in question as lamprophyre, rich in carbonates, phlogopite, pyroxene, olivine, titaniferous opaque minerals and apatite concentrations that reach 7%. This occurrence corresponds to an alkaline intrusion, which caused brecciation of host rocks, possibly indicating that the material is explosive, however, in the study area there was no evidence of volcanic activity on the surface

To isolate, to concentrate and to purify bacteriophages from isolates of P. aeruginosa; To observe the capacity of bacteriophages to infect isolates of P. aeruginosa susceptible and multiresitant to antimicrobial; To caractherize bacteriphages by electronic microscopy techniques. 10 isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa from LEMC culture collection were submitted to the experiments of ideal temperature for the lyse region appearance in the MaConkey culture plate and 2 extraction methods for the concentration of the phages, clorophorm (Silankorva) and filtration plus centrifugation (Bergan). Three infected clinical isolates of multiresistant P. aeruginosa an one susceptible isolate ( PA01) were evaluated by 3 transmission electron microscopy techniques to caractherize phages morphologically (“on grid”, “on drop” and direct extraction from the lyse region of the culture plate). The ideal temperature to obtain lyses region was 37°C. The stock solutions, obtained through the methodologies of Sillankorva and Bergan, had satisfactory results in infecting the multiresistant isolate and the negative control. Among the 3 techniques of electronic microscopy tested the direct from the lyse plate was the best to obtain the micrography of the phages

This paper presents the study on the application of the electrolytic plasma for surface treatment of aluminum. A bibliographical study on the material of interest was preliminarily performed and later designed and built an electrolytic cell, including the excitation source. Unlike conventional electrolysis process, the plasma assisted carry on in the non-linear region of characteristic current/voltage curve. Therefore it requires for the on set of the process that the power supply operates on harder conditions than those on high current process. The plasma produced during the present investigation has temperatures in the range o 6,0.10 3 -7,0 .10 3 K, well above those found in conventional chemical process. It also shows a particular dynamic to promote changes on surface and to produce new materials. The plasma is generated by microdischarge in vapor or gas bubbles involved in physic-chemical processes in electrode regions of the electrolytic cell. The electrode material was the aluminum (7075). The Process Electrolytic Plasma Processing (EPP) is sensitive to various parameters such as operating voltage, current density, electrolyte, concentration of electrolyte, geometry of reactor, temperature of electrolytic solution and dynamic of the fluid in the cell. The experiments were carried on in order to find parameters for a stable abd steady operation. The choice for the electrolytic was silicate/alkali solution in various concentrations to operate in various voltage as well. Plasma was produced on negative (cathode) and positive (anode) electrode, in specific conditions. A stable operation on the cathode process was obtained with low concentration of the electrolytic in aqueous solution, current density around 250V effective voltage. For the evolution of plasma in anodic process it was required higher concentrations and higher... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

Fracture surfaces are the fracture process marks, taht it is characterized by energy release guieded by failure mode. The fracture toughness express this energy em stress and strain terms in pre-cracked samples. The strectch zone is the characteristic region forms by the transition of fatigue fracture and final fracture and it width demonstrate the relation with failure energy release. The quantitative fractography is a broadly tool uses in failure surfaces characterization that it can point to a material’s aspect or a fracture process. The image processing works like an investigation tool, guinding a lot of studies in this area. In order to evaluate the characterization effectivity and it respectivity studies, it used 300M steel that it was thermal treated by an aeronautical process known and it characterized by tensile test and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The tensile test of this material, made by ASTM E8, allowed the head treatment effectivity confirmation, beyond of mechanics porperties determination. The EDS confirmed the material composition, beyond of base the discussion about fracture mechanism presence. The fracture toughness test has also made, that it works to obtain the fracture surfeaces studies below self-similarity and self-affinity approaches. In front of all the exposed it was possible to conclude that the fractal dimension works like a study parameter of fracture process, allowinf the relation of their values with changes in thickness, which interferes directly in material’s behaviour in fracture toughness approach
