Model development for selection of location for refinery in India and identification of characteristics to be looked into when configuring it and to develop models for integrated supply chain planning for a refinery. Locating and removing inbound, internal and outbound logistic problems in an existing refinery and overall design of a logistic information system for a refinery are the main objectives of the study. A brief description of supply chain management (SCM), elements of SCM and their significance, logistics cost in petroleum industry and its impacts, and dynamics of petroleum its logistic practices are also to be presented. Scope of application of SCM in petroleum refinery will also be discussed. A review of the investigations carried out by earlier researches in the area of supply chain management in general and with specific reference to petroleum refining.

El presente Trabajo de Grado busca caracterizar la cultura organizacional de una empresa del sector Financiero en Colombia y realizar orientaciones de acciones para el cambio organizacional de acuerdo con la estrategia de perdurabilidad establecida por la Alta Dirección de dicha empresa. Para este fin, se realiza una cuidadosa revisión y actualización del estado del arte de los conceptos clave ¨Cultura Organizacional¨ y ¨Cambio Organizacional¨. Es de resaltar que para el primero de ellos, se toma como punto de partida el estado del arte sobre Cultura Organizacional realizado por el profesor Carlos Eduardo Méndez Álvarez y cuyo marco temporal abarca desde los orígenes del concepto en el siglo XIX hasta el año 2006. Asimismo, luego de una cuidadosa revisión de los Modelos de Cambio Organizacional existentes y de la realidad de la empresa objeto de estudio, se adopta el Modelo ADKAR que consta de cinco fases: Conciencia del Cambio, Deseo, Conocimiento, Capacidad – Habilidad y Refuerzo. Asimismo, a partir de la construcción de un fundamento teórico sólido y a través de la aplicación de la metodología para describir la Cultura Organizacional en Colombia MEDECO se busca una aproximación a la Cultura Organizacional de la empresa objeto de estudio con el fin de describir e identificar los rasgos predominantes de su cultura organizacional y entregar una propuesta final con los rasgos necesarios que alientan la consecución exitosa de los procesos de cambio.

On the Lower Brule Indian Reservation in South Dakota, about 3 million tons of metallic manganese are in low-grade deposits in the DeGrey Member of the Pierre Shale on the reservation. The geology and methods of mining and processing this sub-economic mineral resource have been studied extensively; technologically, extraction of manganese is possible. However, an efficient, economical method to separate manganese-bearing nodules from the shale host rocks has yet to be found. The manganiferous nodules occur in the Oacoma zone of the Sully shale member (De-Grey Member) which is a subdivision of the South Dakota Pierre Shale formation. These nodular deposits have an interesting similarity in stratigraphical position, lithology and manganese content to those of the Porcupine Mountain area in Manitoba.

Detailed major- and trace-element chemistry is presented for 41 sediment samples from DSDP Site-223 borehole cores. A marked change in chemical (and mineralogical) character is shown at the end of the Early Miocene Epoch which relates to tectonic events and associated changes in sedimentary regime. Enrichment in the contents of such elements as Mg, Cr and Ni compared with average values for fine-grained sediments occurs throughout the sequence and is particularly marked in the upper group of samples. A basic-ultrabasic provenance is suggested - the Oman ophiolites. Leaching with combined acid-reducing agent indicated typical lithogenous-character ordering for the elements and emphasised the enrichment of Mg, Cr, Ni (and Li, Cu, Zn, Pb, Fe and Ti) over values for near-shore muds and terrigenous material. Factor analysis on the bulk chemical data identifies the main lithogenous and biogenous components, subdividing the latter. It separates the upper and lower group of chemically dissimilar sediments and delineates a Mn-hydroxide phase. It also shows the essentially independent roles of Na, Ba and P.

The Ocean Drilling Program Leg 188 Site 1165 was drilled on the Wild Drift on the Continental Rise off Prydz Bay, East Antarctica to a total depth of 999.1 meters below seafloor (mbsf). It recovered an extensive suite of terrigenous and hemipelagic sediments of early Miocene to Pleistocene age. Of special interest in this study is the sediment column between 0 and 50 mbsf, which consists of a well-preserved section of Pliocene-Pleistocene-age sediments that was sampled at 10-cm intervals. Multiproxy study of this interval could show possible intervals of expansions of the ice-sheet across the continental shelves and express the climatic evolution in Antarctica, particularly during the 'middle' Pliocene warm period (3.15 to 2.85 Ma) which may provide an indication of how the Earth responds to a rise of its surface temperature. According to the existing age model, the upper 50 mbsf stratigraphic sequence of Site 1165 reaches back to ~4.9 Ma. Throughout this interval, the clay-mineral content is characterized by fluctuations of individual clay minerals, particularly smectite and chlorite. The smectite concentration varies mainly between 0% and 30%. Illite fluctuates less between 50% and 80%, and kaolinite varies mainly between 10% and 20%. Chlorite concentrations are mainly 0% to 10%. There is also a noticeable change in magnetic susceptibility at ~34 mbsf that is clearly indicated in the composition of the clay-mineral suite. At this level, smectite decreases and illite, kaolinite and chlorite show some variability. In particular, there is a slight but persistent increase in chlorite. The results from the Plio-Pleistocene transition, with evenly fluctuating smectite and illite contents and the gradually increasing chlorite content, may indicate cooler conditions compared to the mid-Pliocene conditions. Slight increase in illite content and decrease in smectite content towards Pleistocene supports the previous assumption. The results from the mid-Pliocene with the increasing smectite content and decreasing illite content may indicate warmer and possibly interglacial conditions.

During Leg 177 of the Ocean Drilling Program (ODP), a well-preserved middle Eocene to lower Miocene sediment record was recovered at Site 1090 on the Agulhas Ridge in the Atlantic sector of the Southern Ocean. This new sediment record shows evidence of a hitherto unknown late Eocene opal pulse. Lithological variations, compositional data, mass-accumulation rates of biogenic and lithogenic sediment constituents, grain-size distributions, geochemistry, and clay mineralogy are used to gain insights into mid-Cenozoic environmental changes and to explore the circumstances of the late Eocene opal pulse in terms of reorganizations in ocean circulation. The base of the section is composed of middle Eocene nannofossil oozes mixed with red clays enriched in authigenic clinoptilolite and smectite, deposited at low sedimentation rates (LE 2 cm/ka). It indicates reduced terrigenous sediment input and moderate biological productivity during this preglacial warm climatic stage. The basal strata are overlain by an extended succession (100 m, 4 cm/ka) of biosiliceous oozes and muds, comprising the upper middle Eocene, the entire late Eocene, and the lowermost early Oligocene. The opal pulse occurred between 37.5 and 33.5 Ma and documents the development of upwelling cells along topographic highs, and the utilization of a marine nutrient- and silica reservoir established during the pre-late Eocene through enhanced submarine hydrothermal activity and the introduction of terrigenous solutions from chemical weathering on adjacent continents. This palaeoceanographic overturn probably was initiated through the onset of increased meridional ocean circulation, caused by the diversion of the Indian equatorial current to the south. The opal pulse was accompanied by increased influxes of terrigenous detritus from southern African sources (illite), mediated by enhanced ocean particle advection in response to modified ocean circulation. The opal pulse ended because of frontal shifts to the south around the Eocene/Oligocene boundary, possibly in response to the opening of the Drake Passage and the incipient establishment of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current. Condensed sediments and a hiatus within the early Oligocene part of the section possibly point to an invigoration of the deep-reaching Antarctic Circumpolar Current. The mid-Oligocene to lower Miocene section on long time scale exhibits less pronounced lithological variations than the older section and points to relatively stable palaeoceanographic conditions after the dramatic changes in the late Eocene to early Oligocene.

During Ocean Drilling Program Leg 188 to Prydz Bay, East Antarctica, several of the shipboard scientists formed the High-Resolution Integrated Stratigraphy Committee (HiRISC). The committee was established in order to furnish an integrated data set from the Pliocene portion of Site 1165 as a contribution to the ongoing debate about Pliocene climate and climate evolution in Antarctica. The proxies determined in our various laboratories were the following: magnetostratigraphy and magnetic properties, grain-size distributions (granulometry), near-ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared spectrophotometry, calcium carbonate content, characteristics of foraminifer, diatom, and radiolarian content, clay mineral composition, and stable isotopes. In addition to the HiRISC samples, other data sets contained in this report are subsets of much larger data sets. We included these subsets in order to provide the reader with a convenient integrated data set of Pliocene-Pleistocene strata from the East Antarctic continental margin. The data are presented in the form of 14 graphs (in addition to the site map). Text and figure captions guide the reader to the original data sets. Some preliminary interpretations are given at the end of the manuscript.

Numerous studies have shown that delta18O records from benthic and planktonic foraminifera, primarily a proxy of global ice volume variations, reflect Milankovitch periodicities. To study climatic response to orbital forcing at Ocean Drilling Program site 758, we have generated continuous delta18O and delta13C records from a single benthic foraminiferal species Cibicides wuellerstorfi for the last 3.6 m.y. and extended the planktonic foraminiferal isotope records of Farrell and Janecek (1991, doi:10.2973/odp.proc.sr.121.124.1991) (0-2.5 Ma, based on Globigerinoides sacculifer) to 3.6 Ma (Chen, 1994). We then constructed an age model by matching, correlating and tuning the benthic delta18O record to a model simulation of ice volume (Imbrie and Imbrie, 1980, doi:10.1126/science.207.4434.943). The filtered 41- and 23-kyr signals based on the resultant astronomically tuned age model are highly correlated to obliquity (r=0.83) and precession (r=0.75), respectively. Although derived with methodology different from Shackleton et al. (1990) and Hilgen (1991, doi:10.1016/0012-821X(91)90206-W, 1991, doi:10.1016/0012-821X(91)90082-S), our results generally agree with their published astronomical timescales for the time interval from 0 to 3.0 Ma, providing additional support for the newly emerging chronology based on orbital tuning. Slight discrepancies exist in the time interval from 3.0 to 3.6 Ma, suggesting several possibilities, including differences in the approaches of orbital tuning and the relatively low amplitude of delta18O variations in our record. However, even if the discrepancies are due to the relatively low amplitude of the isotope signals in our record at 3.0-3.6 Ma, our resultant timescale as a whole does not adversely affect our evaluation of the paleoclimatology and paleoceanography of the Indian Ocean, such as the evolution of the 100-, 41- and 23-kyr cycles, and variation of global ice volume and deepwater temperature during the past 3.6 m.y.

Sediments recovered from Site 765 can be divided into seven mineral associations, based on differences in clay mineralogy. These clay mineral associations correlate with the lithologic units and reflect the rift-to-drift history of the passive Australian margin. In general, the Lower to mid-Cretaceous sediments represent altered volcanic material and detrital aluminosilicates that were deposited during the early formation of the Argo Basin. The predominant clay mineral is randomly interstratified illite/smectite (I/S) that contains less than 10% illite layers. The transformation of smectite to illite is suggested by an increase in the percentage of illite layers in the basal sediments (from <10% to 40%) that corresponds to the silica transformation of opal-CT to quartz. This mixed-layered illite/smectite has an average composition of (K0.14 Na0.29 C0.07)(Al0.88 Mg0.43 Fe0.61 Ti0.06)(Si3.88 Al0.12)(O)10(OH)2. The highly smectitic composition of the I/S and its association with bentonite layers and zeolite minerals suggest that much of the I/S was derived from the alteration of volcanic material. The condensed middle to Upper Cretaceous sediments consist of palygorskite and detrital I/S that contains 30% to 60% illite layers. The condensed Paleogene sediments contain no palygorskite and are dominated by detrital clay minerals or by highly smectitic I/S associated with bentonite layers and zeolite minerals. The overlying, rapidly deposited Neogene clayey calcareous turbidites consist of three distinct clay mineral associations. Middle Miocene sediments contain palygorskite, kaolinite, and a tentatively identified mixed-layered illite/smectite/chlorite (I/S/C) or saponite. Upper Miocene sediments contain abundant sepiolite and kaolinite and lesser amounts of detrital I/S. Detrital I/S and kaolinite dominate the clay mineralogy of Pliocene and Pleistocene sediments. The fibrous, magnesium-rich clay minerals sepiolite and palygorskite appear to be authigenic and occur intimately associated with authigenic dolomite. The magnesium required to form these Mg-rich minerals was supplied by diffusion from the overlying seawater, and silica was supplied by the dissolution of associated biogenic silica.
