This articles aims to approach the possibilities of holograms utilizations on three-dimensional that, while explored, allow the improvement of the spatial visualization ability. A hologram is a three-dimensional image recorded by laser that results in an image of three dimensions from the essential use of light.

Es wurde ein für bodengebundene Feldmessungen geeignetes System zur digital-holographischen Abbildung luftgetragener Objekte entwickelt und konstruiert. Es ist, abhängig von der Tiefenposition, geeignet zur direkten Bestimmung der Größe luftgetragener Objekte oberhalb von ca. 20 µm, sowie ihrer Form bei Größen oberhalb von ca. 100µm bis in den Millimeterbereich. Die Entwicklung umfaßte zusätzlich einen Algorithmus zur automatisierten Verbesserung der Hologrammqualität und zur semiautomatischen Entfernungsbestimmung großer Objekte entwickelt. Eine Möglichkeit zur intrinsischen Effizienzsteigerung der Bestimmung der Tiefenposition durch die Berechnung winkelgemittelter Profile wurde vorgestellt. Es wurde weiterhin ein Verfahren entwickelt, das mithilfe eines iterativen Ansatzes für isolierte Objekte die Rückgewinnung der Phaseninformation und damit die Beseitigung des Zwillingsbildes erlaubt. Weiterhin wurden mithilfe von Simulationen die Auswirkungen verschiedener Beschränkungen der digitalen Holographie wie der endlichen Pixelgröße untersucht und diskutiert. Die geeignete Darstellung der dreidimensionalen Ortsinformation stellt in der digitalen Holographie ein besonderes Problem dar, da das dreidimensionale Lichtfeld nicht physikalisch rekonstruiert wird. Es wurde ein Verfahren entwickelt und implementiert, das durch Konstruktion einer stereoskopischen Repräsentation des numerisch rekonstruierten Meßvolumens eine quasi-dreidimensionale, vergrößerte Betrachtung erlaubt. Es wurden ausgewählte, während Feldversuchen auf dem Jungfraujoch aufgenommene digitale Hologramme rekonstruiert. Dabei ergab sich teilweise ein sehr hoher Anteil an irregulären Kristallformen, insbesondere infolge massiver Bereifung. Es wurden auch in Zeiträumen mit formal eisuntersättigten Bedingungen Objekte bis hinunter in den Bereich ≤20µm beobachtet. Weiterhin konnte in Anwendung der hier entwickelten Theorie des ”Phasenrandeffektes“ ein Objekt von nur ca. 40µm Größe als Eisplättchen identifiziert werden. Größter Nachteil digitaler Holographie gegenüber herkömmlichen photographisch abbildenden Verfahren ist die Notwendigkeit der aufwendigen numerischen Rekonstruktion. Es ergibt sich ein hoher rechnerischer Aufwand zum Erreichen eines einer Photographie vergleichbaren Ergebnisses. Andererseits weist die digitale Holographie Alleinstellungsmerkmale auf. Der Zugang zur dreidimensionalen Ortsinformation kann der lokalen Untersuchung der relativen Objektabstände dienen. Allerdings zeigte sich, dass die Gegebenheiten der digitalen Holographie die Beobachtung hinreichend großer Mengen von Objekten auf der Grundlage einzelner Hologramm gegenwärtig erschweren. Es wurde demonstriert, dass vollständige Objektgrenzen auch dann rekonstruiert werden konnten, wenn ein Objekt sich teilweise oder ganz außerhalb des geometrischen Meßvolumens befand. Weiterhin wurde die zunächst in Simulationen demonstrierte Sub-Bildelementrekonstruktion auf reale Hologramme angewandt. Dabei konnte gezeigt werden, dass z.T. quasi-punktförmige Objekte mit Sub-Pixelgenauigkeit lokalisiert, aber auch bei ausgedehnten Objekten zusätzliche Informationen gewonnen werden konnten. Schließlich wurden auf rekonstruierten Eiskristallen Interferenzmuster beobachtet und teilweise zeitlich verfolgt. Gegenwärtig erscheinen sowohl kristallinterne Reflexion als auch die Existenz einer (quasi-)flüssigen Schicht als Erklärung möglich, wobei teilweise in Richtung der letztgenannten Möglichkeit argumentiert werden konnte. Satellite measurement validations, climate models, atmospheric radiative transfer models and cloud models, all depend on accurate measurements of cloud particle size distributions, number densities, spatial distributions, and other parameters relevant to cloud microphysical processes. And many airborne instruments designed to measure size distributions and concentrations of cloud particles have large uncertainties in measuring number densities and size distributions of small ice crystals. HOLODEC (Holographic Detector for Clouds) is a new instrument that does not have many of these uncertainties and makes possible measurements that other probes have never made. The advantages of HOLODEC are inherent to the holographic method. In this dissertation, I describe HOLODEC, its in-situ measurements of cloud particles, and the results of its test flights. I present a hologram reconstruction algorithm that has a sample spacing that does not vary with reconstruction distance. This reconstruction algorithm accurately reconstructs the field to all distances inside a typical holographic measurement volume as proven by comparison with analytical solutions to the Huygens-Fresnel diffraction integral. It is fast to compute, and has diffraction limited resolution. Further, described herein is an algorithm that can find the position along the optical axis of small particles as well as large complex-shaped particles. I explain an implementation of these algorithms that is an efficient, robust, automated program that allows us to process holograms on a computer cluster in a reasonable time. I show size distributions and number densities of cloud particles, and show that they are within the uncertainty of independent measurements made with another measurement method. The feasibility of another cloud particle instrument that has advantages over new standard instruments is proven. These advantages include a unique ability to detect shattered particles using three-dimensional positions, and a sample volume size that does not vary with particle size or airspeed. It also is able to yield two-dimensional particle profiles using the same measurements.

Clouds are one of the most influential elements of weather on the earth system, yet they are also one of the least understood. Understanding their composition and behavior at small scales is critical to understanding and predicting larger scale feedbacks. Currently, the best method to study clouds on the microscale is through airborne in situ measurements using optical instruments capable of resolving clouds on the individual particle level. However, current instruments are unable to sufficiently resolve the scales important to cloud evolution and behavior. The Holodec is a new generation of optical cloud instrument which uses digital inline holography to overcome many of the limitations of conventional instruments. However, its performance and reliability was limited due to several deficiencies in its original design. These deficiencies were addressed and corrected to advance the instrument from the prototype stage to an operational instrument. In addition, the processing software used to reconstruct and analyze digitally recorded holograms was improved upon to increase robustness and ease of use.

El objetivo del presente trabajo es realizar un análisis integral de la relación que existe entre religiosidad popular y espacio urbano en la práctica de las animitas chilenas. Para ello proponemos un esquema polivalente de análisis, sostenido en el concepto de "holograma de la muerte imprevista". Este esquema propone tres clasificaciones complementarias: la animita como sujeto holográfico, como objeto holográfico y como lugar holográfico. Finalmente, estas tres clasificaciones, complementando extractos de entrevistas y análisis topológicos, muestran la cuasi totalidad de los factores socio-espaciales que esta práctica presenta, lo que da cuenta de la importancia urbana que este tipo de práctica popular posee

A complete simulation of the transmission performance for Equalized Holographic ROADM (Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer) designs is presented in this paper. These devices can address several wavelengths from the input to different output fibres, according to the holograms stored in a SLM (Spatial Light Modulator), where all the outputs are equalized in power. All combinations of the input wavelengths are possible at the different output fibres. To simulate the transmission performance of the EH-ROADM, a software program, from Optiwave, has been used. The correspondence between physical blocks of the device (grating, SLM, lens...) and those simulated in the program (filters, losses, splitters...) has been defined in order to obtain a close agreement between the theoretical transmission performance and the simulated one. To complete the review about Equalized Holographic ROADMs some guidelines about its design have been done.

This paper describes the theory, design, applications and performance of a new Reconfigurable Add-drop Multiplexer (ROADM) with flexible bandwidth allocation. The device can address several wavelengths at the input to four output fibers, according to the holograms stored in a SLM (Spatial Light Modulator), where all the outputs are equalized in power. All combinations of the input wavelengths are possible at the different output fibers. Each fiber has assigned all the signals with the same bandwidth; the possible bandwidths are 12.5GHz, 25GHz, 50GHz and 100GHz, according to ITU-T 694.1 Recommendation. It is possible to route several signals with different bandwidth in real time thanks to Liquid Crystal over Silicon (LCoS) technology.

Actualmente existen varios dispositivos que aceptan gestos sobre superficies táctiles, sean celulares, tabletas, computadores, etc. a los cuales las personas se acostumbran rápidamente a su uso y los aceptan como herramientas necesarias en su vida. Del mismo modo existen algunas aplicaciones que manejan entornos en 3D, y permiten captar gestos realizados con las manos, cuerpo, cabeza. Estas técnicas se han desarrollado mucho por separado pero se ha podido evidenciar en base a los artículos revisados que no existen muchos estudios que combinen las aplicaciones táctiles con las 3D manejadas por gestos en el aire. El presente trabajo muestra un prototipo que permite la comunicación y coordinación entre dos aplicaciones, una que muestra documentos representados por esferas en una aplicación con interacción táctil desarrollada en Unity que funciona sobre Android, y una segunda aplicación desarrollada también en Unity que maneja un entorno 3D con el que se interactúa mediante gestos realizados en el aire. Luego de algunos intentos la interacción entre ambas aplicaciones fue lograda implementando comunicación por sockets entre la aplicación en el dispositivo Android y la aplicación 3D que se encuentra alojada en un computador con Windows 7. La captura de gestos en el aire se realiza mediante el sistema Tracking Tools desarrollado por la compañía Optitrack que captura los movimientos con cámaras infrarrojas y marcadores en los dedos. Este sistema envía los datos de los gestos a nuestra aplicación 3D. Estos equipos son de propiedad del laboratorio Decoroso Crespo de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Una vez lograda la implementación e interacción entre las aplicaciones se han realizado pruebas de usabilidad con nueve estudiantes del Máster Universitario en Software y Sistemas de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Cada uno ha respondido una serie de encuestas para poder obtener resultados sobre cuán usable es el prototipo, la experiencia del usuario y qué mejoras se podrían realizar sobre éste. En la parte final de este documento se presentan los resultados de las encuestas y se muestran las conclusiones y trabajo futuro.---ABSTRACT---Currently there are several devices that accept gestures on touch surfaces like phones, tablets, computers, etc. to which people quickly become accustomed to their use and accept them as necessary tools in their life. Similarly there are some applications that handle 3D environments and like televisions, holograms and allow capture gestures made with hands, body, and head. These techniques have been developed on a separated way but based on some research we may say that the are not many studies that combine touch with 3D applications handled by gestures in the air. This paper presents a prototype of the interaction of two issues of a 2D showing documents represented by spheres on a touch application developed in Unity that works on Android and allows communicating with the second application also developed in Unity that handles a 3D environment interaction of gestures made in air. After some attempts interaction was achieved by implementing communication sockets between the application on the Android device and 3D application that is hosted on a computer with windows 7, and gestures capturing in the air is done by the system Tracking Tools developed by the Optitrack company it captures movements with infrared cameras and markers on the fingers, which sends data to this application gestures, these equipment are owned by the Decoroso Crespo laboratory of the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Once achieved the interaction of applications has been conducted performance tests with ten students of the university master of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, each has answered a series of surveys to get results on how usable is the prototype, the user experience and that improvements could be made on this.

In this work we prensent an analysis of non-slanted reflection gratings by using exact solution of the second order differential equation derived from Maxwell equations, in terms of Mathieu functions. The results obtained by using this method will be compared to those obtained by using the well known Kogelnik's Coupled Wave Theory which predicts with great accuracy the response of the efficieny of the zero and first order for volume phase gratings, for both reflection and transmission gratings.

Full-field Fourier-domain optical coherence tomography (3F-OCT) is a full-field version of spectral domain/swept source optical coherence tomography. A set of two-dimensional Fourier holograms is recorded at discrete wavenumbers spanning the swept source tuning range. The resultant three-dimensional data cube contains comprehensive information on the three-dimensional spatial properties of the sample, including its morphological layout and optical scatter. The morphological layout can be reconstructed in software via three-dimensional discrete Fourier transformation. The spatial resolution of the 3F-OCT reconstructed image, however, is degraded due to the presence of a phase cross-term, whose origin and effects are addressed in this paper. We present a theoretical and experimental study of the imaging performance of 3F-OCT, with particular emphasis on elimination of the deleterious effects of the phase cross-term.
