In our previous work, it was shown that LiLaNiO/gamma-Al2O3 was an excellent catalyst for partial oxidation of heptane to syngas in a fixed-bed reactor at high temperature and the selectivity of CO was about 93%. However, pure oxygen was used as the oxidant. We have developed a dense oxygen permeation membrane Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3 that can supply pure oxygen for the reaction. In this work, the membrane was combined with the catalyst LiLaNiO/gamma-Al2O3 in one rector for the partial oxidation of heptane that is typical component of gasoline. A good performance of the membrane reactor has been obtained, with 100% n-heptane conversion and >94% hydrogen selectivity at the optimized reaction conditions. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. The transformation of olefin to aromatics over ZSM-5 catalysts with different K-loadings has been investigated both in a continuous flow fixed-bed reactor and in a pulse microreactor. Investigation of variation of olefin aromatization activity with K-loadings shows that strong acid sites are indispensable for the converting of olefin to aromatics. As intermediates of olefin aromatization process, butadiene and cyclopentene not only show much higher aromatization activity than mono-olefins, but also can be transformed into aromatics over relatively weak acid sites of K/ZSM-5. A proposal is put forward, stating that among all the steps experienced in olefins aromatization, the formation of diene or cycloolfin from mono-olefins through hydrogen transfer is the key step and can be catalyzed by strong acid sites.

A metal ions (Ag, Bi, V, Mo) modified sol-gel method was used to prepare a mesoporous Ag0.01Bi0.85V0.54Mo0.45O4 catalytic membrane which was used in the selective oxidation of propane to acrolein. By optimizing the preparation parameters, a thin and perfect catalytically active membrane was successfully prepared. SEM results showed that the membrane thickness is similar to5 mum. XRD results revealed that Ag0.01Bi0.85V0.54Mo0.45O4 with a Scheelite structure, which is catalytically active for the selective oxidation of propane to acrolein, was formed in the catalytic membrane only when AgBiVMoO concentrations were higher than 40%. Catalytic reaction results demonstrated that the selective oxidation of propane could be controlled to a certain degree, such as to acrolein, in the catalytic membrane reactor (CMR) compared to the fixed bed reactor (FBR). For example, a selectivity of 54.85% for acrolein in the liquid phase was obtained in the CMR, while only 8.31% was achieved in the FBR. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Oxidative dehydrogenation of propane (ODP) to propylene was investigated in a dense tubular membrane reactor made of Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3-delta (BSCF) at 700degreesC and 750degreesC. The propylene selectivity in the membrane reactor (44.2%) is much higher than that in the fixed-bed reactor (15%) at the similar propane conversion (23-27%). Higher propylene selectivity in the membrane reactor was attributed to the lattice oxygen (O2-) supplied through the membrane.

Performance of palladium-containing supported catalysts in the oxidation of 1-butene was investigated in a fixed-bed flow microreactor. The Pd-Fe-HCl/Ti-Al catalyst is the best among the five Pd-Fe-HCl/X (A = SiO2, gamma-Al2O3, Al-Ti, TiO2, MCM-22) catalysts for the oxidation of I-butene to butanone. It is interesting that high propionic acid selectivity can be obtained when V and H2SO4 are added to the palladium-containing supported catalysts.

Graphitic-nanofilaments (GNFs) supported ruthenium catalysts were prepared and characterized by NZ physisorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and temperature programmed reduction-mass spectroscopy (TPR-MS) and used for ammonia synthesis in a fixed bed microreactor. The TEMs of the Ru/GNFs and Ru-Ba/GNFs catalysts indicate that the Ru particles are in the range of 2-4 nm, which is the optimum size of Ru particles for the maximum number of B5 type sites. The activity of Ru-Ba/GNFs catalysts is higher than that of Ru-Ba/AC by about 25%. The methanation reaction on the Ru/GNFs catalyst is remarkably inhibited compared with a Ru/AC catalyst. High graphitization of GNFs is likely to be the reason for the high resistance to the methanation reaction. The power rate law for ammonia synthesis on Ru-Ba/GNFs catalysts can be expressed by r = Kp(NH3)(-0.4) P-N2(0.8) P-H2(-0.7), indicating that H-2 is an inhibitor for N-2 activation on the catalyst. Catalysts with the promoters Ba, K and Cs show large differences in activity for ammonia synthesis. The catalyst promoted with Ba (Ba/Ru = 0.2 molar ratio) was found to be the most active, whereas that with a K promoter was the least active. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The reaction of producing hydrogen for fuel cell which used normal octane as gasoline or diesel oil reactant through catalytic partial oxidizing and steam reforming method has been researched in the fixed-bed reactor. A series of catalysts that mainly used nickel supported on Al2O3 have been studied. It showed that the activity of the catalyst was increased with the content of nickel by using only nickel supported on Al2O3. However, its activity was not obviously increased when the content of nickel was over 5 wt%. The conversion ratio of normal octane and hydrogen selectivity were higher at higher reaction temperature. The single noble catalyst of palladium had better stability compared with that of platinum catalyst although their activity and selectivity were similar during the experimental reaction temperature. The prepared bimetallic catalyst consisted mainly of nickel and little noble metal of palladium supported on Al2O3. It showed that this catalyst had higher activity and selectivity, especially at lower or higher reaction temperatures compared with single nickel or palladium catalyst, and better stability. alpha(1)-VOPO4, alpha(II)-VOPO4 and beta-VOPO4 have been investigated as catalysts for the gas phase oxidative dehydrogenation (ODH) of cyclohexane to cyclohexene with the addition of acetic acid (HOAc) in the feeds in a fixed bed reactor. Different VOPO4 phases showed different acidity and reducibility. beta-VOPO4 phase is more active than alpha(I)-VOPO4 and alpha(II)-VOPO4 in the ODH without acetic acid addition. In the presence of acetic acid, the acidity of the catalyst may play an important role in the ODH process. Due to higher acidity, alpha(I)-VOPO4 phase catalyst gives better catalytic performances than alpha(I)-VOPO4 and beta-VOPO4 for the ODH of cyclohexane by adding of acetic acid in the reactants.

Catalysts consisting of heteropoly acids (HPAs) supported on different silica and mesoporous molecular sieves have been prepared by impregnation and the sol-gel method, respectively, and their catalytic behavior in fixed-bed alkylation of isobutane with butene has been investigated. The activity, selectivity and stability of the supported-HPA catalysts could be correlated with the surface acidity of the catalysts, the structure of supports as well as the time on stream (TOS). In the fixed-bed reactor, the acidity of the heteropoly acid is favorable to the formation of dimerization products (C-8(=)); especially, the pore size of supports was seen to have an important effect on activity and product distribution of the catalysts. Contrary to the traditional solid-acid catalysts, the supported-HPA catalysts own an excellent stability for alkylation, which makes it possible for these supported catalysts to replace the liquid-acid catalysts used in industry.

The vapor phase esterification of acetic acid with ethanol and n-butanol catalyzed by SiW12 supported on activated carbon was studied in a flow fixed-bed reactor in the range of 358 to 433 K. The effects of the reaction temperature, liquid hourly space velocity (LHSV) as well as the molar ratio on the catalytic activity have been investigated. The kinetic studies showed that the rate of esterification was dependent on the partial pressures of the reactants and the addition of argon, an inert diluent in the system when the total pressure was kept at 1 atm. Also the alcohol structure has a profound effect on not only the rate of esterification, but also on the mechanism of esterification changing from a dual site mechanism for ethanol to a single site mechanism for n-butanol.

This paper gives a brief review of R&D researches for light olefin synthesis directly and indirectly from synthesis gas in the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP). The first pilot plant test was on methanol to olefin (MTO) reaction and was finished in 1993, which was based on ZSM-5-type catalyst and fixed bed reaction. In the meantime, a new indirect method designated as SDTO (syngas via dimethylether to olefin) was proposed. In this process, metal-acid bifunctional catalyst was applied for synthesis gas to dimethylether(DME) reaction, and modified SAPO-34 catalyst that was synthesized by a new low-cost method with optimal crystal size was used to convert DME to light olefin on a fluidized bed reactor. The pilot plant test on SDTO was performed and finished in 1995. Evaluation of the pilot plant data showed that 190-200 g of DME were yielded by single-pass for each standard cubic meter of synthesis gas. For the second reaction, 1.880 tons of DME or 2.615 tons of methanol produced 1 ton of light olefins, which constitutes of 0.533 ton of ethylene, 0.349 ton of propylene and 0.118 ton of butene. DICP also paid some attention on direct conversion of synthesis gas to light olefins. A semi-pilot plant test (catalyst 1.8 1) was finished in 1995 with a CO conversion > 70% and a C(2)(=)-C(4)(=) olefin selectivity 71-74% in 1000 h. (C) 2000 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. Regeneration behaviors of Fe/Si-2 and Fe-Mn/Si-2 catalysts for C2H6 dehydrogenation with CO2 to C2H4
Resumo:
The catalytic performance of Fe/Si-2 and Fe-Mn/Si-2 catalysts for conversion of C2H6 with CO2 to C2H4 was examined in a continuous-flow and fixed-bed reactor. The results show that the Fe-Mn/Si-2 catalyst exhibits much better reaction activity and selectivity to C2H4 than those of the Fe/Si-2 catalyst. Furthermore, the coking-decoking behaviors of these catalysts were studied through TG. The catalytic performances of the catalysts after regeneration for conversion of C2H6 or dilute C2H6 in FCC off-gas with CO2 to C2H4 were also examined. The results show that both activity and selectivity of the Fe-Mn/Si-2 catalyst after regeneration reached the same level as those of the fresh catalyst, whereas it is difficult for the Fe/Si-2 catalyst to refresh its reaction behavior after regeneration.

An oxygen permeable mixed ion and electron conducting membrane (OPMIECM) was used as an oxygen transfer medium as well as a catalyst for the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane to produce ethylene. O2- species transported through the membrane reacted with ethane to produce ethylene before it recombined to gaseous O-2, so that the deep oxidation of the products was greatly suppressed. As a result, 80% selectivity of ethylene at 84% ethane conversion was achieved, whereas 53.7% ethylene selectivity was obtained using a conventional fixed-bed reactor under the same reaction conditions with the same catalyst at 800 degreesC. A 100 h continuous operation of this process was carried out and the result indicates the feasibility for practical applications.

High-throughput screening of HZSM-5 supported metal-oxides catalysts were carried out for the coupling reaction of methane with CO to aromatics in a multi-stream reactor system. Zn/HZSM-5 and Mo/HZSM-5 were observed to be rather effective for the catalytic formation of aromatics from the coupling reaction of methane with CO. Temperature-programmed reaction has further proven the efficiency of the coupling of methane and CO over Zn/HZSM-5 catalyst. The results were also validated in a conventional fixed-bed reactor coupled with GC. The results propose that the coupling methane with CO toward benzene and naphthalene can be catalyzed by Zn/HZSM-5 at 500 ° C. Both methane and CO are needed for the formation of reactive coke on the catalyst, and the reactive coke may be the initial product in the producing of hydrocarbons. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. In order to investigate the effect of acid properties on the coke behavior and stability of butene aromatization, we prepared the AHZSM-5 samples with various acid properties by the methods of hydrothernial treatment and K addition. The reaction of butene aromatization was carried out at 350 degrees C and 0.5 MPa in a continuous flow fixed bed. The characterization of the fresh/coked catalysts with NH3-TPD, N-2 adsorption-desorption measurement, and TG techniques has shown that a large amount of acid sites (high acid density) of the AHZMS-5 catalyst can cause a large quantity of coke deposit and serious channel blockage, and so result in a rapid loss of aromatization activity. On the contrary, after a great reduction in strong acid sites of AHZSM-5 catalyst resulting from some K-modification, the presence of only many weak acid sites also could not lessen the formation of coke nor improve the reaction stability of butene aromatization. Interestingly, the simultaneous reduction in the strong and weak acid sites to a desirable level by hydrothermal treating the AHZSM-5 catalyst at a proper temperature can effectively suppress the coke formation and channel blockage, and thus improve its olefin aromatization stability.
