Rückläufige Tendenz des Dorschbestandes in der zentralen Ostsee hält an - (262. Forschungsreise des FFK "Solea" vom 31.1.-10.2.1989)

Die stark rückläufige Tendenz des Dorschbestandes in der zentralen Ostsee, östlich von Bornholm, über die in den letzten Jahren berichtet wurde, hält nach den Untersuchungen des FFK "Solea" (31.1. - 10.2.1989)an. Im Bornholm Becken lag der durchschnittliche Grundschleppnetzfang je Stunde auf Wassertiefen flacher als 75 m, wo ausreichende Sauerstoffverhältnisse am Boden waren, im EG-Bereich mit 2,5 Korb nochmals niedriger als 1988 (3 Korb). Er lag damit fast um 2/3 niedriger als im langjährigen Mittel 1980-1986. Die besten Fänge wurden mit jeweils 3,5 Korb im Ostzipfel des EG-Meeres, im sogenannten "Bermuda Dreieck", und südlich von Nexö auf jeweils 72 m Wassertiefe erzielt. Im großen und ganzen war der Dorsch im Wassertiefenbereich zwischen 50 und 75 m des Bornholm Beckens recht gleichmäßig verteilt.

Report of the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission for the year 1989

ENGLISH: The Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission operates under the authority and direction of a convention originally entered into by Costa Rica and the United States. The convention, which came into force in 1950, is open to adherence by other governments whose nationals fish for tropical tunas in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Under this provision Panama adhered in 1953, Ecuador in 1961, Mexico in 1964, Canada in 1968, Japan in 1970, and France and Nicaragua in 1973. Ecuador withdrew from the Commission in 1968, Mexico in 1978, Costa Rica in 1979, and Canada in 1984. Costa Rica re-adhered to the convention in 1989. The Commission held its 46th meeting in Paris, France, on May 10-12, 1989. SPANISH: La Comisión Interamericana del Atún Tropical funciona bajo la autoridad y dirección de un convenio suscrito originalmente por Costa Rica y los Estados Unidos de América. El convenio, vigente desde 1950, está abierto a la afiliación de cualquier pais cuyos ciudadanos pesquen atunes tropicales en el Oceano Pacífico oriental. Bajo esta estipulación, la República de Panamá se afilió en 1953, Ecuador en 1961, Mexico en 1964, Canadá en 1968, Japón en 1970, Francia y Nicaragua en 1973. Strategic ecosystem studies of large slow flowing lowland rivers. Progress report: April - October 1989

This report covers the period April to September, 1989. During this period sampling of invertebrates has concentrated on planktonic animals and those associated with one of the dominant macrophytes in the system, Nuphar lutea, the yellow water lily, since these are particularly important in the diets of larval and juvenile cyprinid fish. A proportion of samples has been partly analysed and some preliminary data are presented here.

Turbidity and plant growth in large slow-flowing lowland rivers. Progress Report: March 1989

The River Great Ouse is a highly managed large lowland river in eastern England. It drains rich arable land in the Midlands and Eastern England and over the years nutrient concentrations have increased and there is a general perception that the clarity of the water has decreased. The main river channels have been dredged a number of times partly for flood control reasons but also for recreational boating and navigation activities. The period covered by this first report has been used to develop specific methodology and instrumentation for measuring turbidity, suspended solids and underwater irradiance for conditions found in the middle abd lower reaches of the River Great Ouse. Sampling strategies have been developed and an extensive sampling programme is now underway covering phytoplankton, suspended solids and turbidity in relation to algal epiphyte growth on underwater macrophytes. Preliminary data are presented relating light levels on the river bed to the river bed profile, turbidity levels and phytoplankton chlorophyll a concentrations. Studies are underway concerning the extent of macrophyte cover and periphyton densities.
