The process of migration of the rural northeast workers toward the cities of the south of Brazil in search of work and better living conditions reached millions of individuals and constituted the basis of our industrialization and modernization, especially since the 1930s. The Cinema has not ignored this vast phenomenon and, as much as the literature put the question in debate, particularly since 1960, when our seventh art was assumed as part of the national intelligence. In this article, we observed three narratives that thematize the escape from rural to urban from the northeastern hinterland: Vidas Secas (1963), by Nelson Pereira dos Santos, Trópicos (BR / ITA, 1967), by Gianni Amico, and O Caminho das Nuvens (2003), by Vicente Amorim. Participants of the politicized cinema, Vidas Secas and Trópicos draw the political impasses of the period in the form of movies and in the aesthetic choices, trying to understand the role of these migrants in Brazilian life. Already in O Caminho das Núvens, performed four decades later, the narrative is assumed as part of the cinema of entertainment, thinking the process of migration as a choice, as stated the form of this artwork of the called cinema of the resumption.

While a certain novel ponders about the traces left by Ettore Majorana and expounds some theories about the fate of the character mysteriously disappeared, a movie by Gianni Amelio also inspirited by facts goes through another path, of the story of Via Panisperna boys, stressing the enigmatic figure of Ettore Majorana and the exciting episodes surrounding some of the greatest physicists of the world. When Leonardo Sciascia publishes the novel in which he uses the actual fact of Ettore Majorana’s disappearance in order to create what he calls a “philosophical novel of mystery”, the public had already probably forgotten the intriguing events of 1938: the young and bright physicist disappeared, by all accounts, voluntarily, without leaving proofs of his death or reliable evidence of his whereabouts. In 1972, Sciascia learns about mysterious clues by means of Erasmo Recami and considers the motives that could have made Majorana leave Italy and later abandon his life almost in the mode fictionalized by Pirandello.

To compare the use of analgesia versus neonatologists' perception regarding analgesic use in painful procedures in the years 2001, 2006, and 2011. This was a prospective cohort study of all newborns admitted to four university neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) during one month in 2001, 2006, and 2011. The frequency of analgesic prescription for painful procedures was evaluated. Of the 202 neonatologists, 188 answered a questionnaire giving their opinion on the intensity of pain during lumbar puncture (LP), tracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation (MV), and postoperative period (PO) using a 10-cm visual analogic scale (VAS; pain >3cm). For LP, 12% (2001), 43% (2006), and 36% (2011) were performed using analgesia. Among the neonatologists, 40-50% reported VAS >3 for LP in all study periods. For intubation, 30% received analgesia in the study periods, and 35% (2001), 55% (2006), and 73% (2011) of the neonatologists reported VAS >3 and would prescribe analgesia for this procedure. As for MV, 45% (2001), 64% (2006), and 48% (2011) of patient-days were under analgesia; 56% (2001), 57% (2006), and 26% (2011) of neonatologists reported VAS >3 and said they would use analgesia during MV. For the first three PO days, 37% (2001), 78% (2006), and 89% (2011) of the patients received analgesia and more than 90% of neonatologists reported VAS >3 for major surgeries. Despite an increase in the medical perception of neonatal pain and in analgesic use during painful procedures, the gap between clinical practice and neonatologist perception of analgesia need did not change during the ten-year period.

Removal of Mg from aluminum scraps, known as demagging, has been widely applied in the, aluminum industry. This work discusses bubble-formation theories and magnesium kinetic removal from aluminum scraps using chlorine and inert gas fluxing. The interfacial area of the bubbles and residence time were estimated using a mathematical model. To inject gaseous chlorine, three types of nozzles were used with varying internal diameter. In addition, a porous plug, as well as varying input chlorine flow and concentration were used. The use of lower chlorine concentration improves efficiency because the interfacial tension is reduced therefore, more and smaller bubbles are formed. The model proposed herein is consistent with the experimental data. [doi:10.2320/matertrans.M2011256]

A new diruthenium(II,III) complex, of formula [Ru2Cl(ket)(4)], Ruket, containing the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug ketoprofen was synthesized and mainly characterized by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), UV-Vis-IR electronic spectroscopy and FTIR and Raman vibrational spectroscopies. The four drug-carboxylato bridging ligands stabilize a Ru-2(II,III) mixed valent core in a paddlewheel type structure as confirmed by ESI mass spectra, electronic and vibrational spectroscopies and magnetic measurements. Ruket and the analogous compounds containing ibuprofen, Ruibp, and naproxen, Runpx, were tested for the biological effects in the human colon carcinoma cells HT-29 and Caco-2 expressing high and low levels of COX-2 respectively. All compounds only weakly affected the proliferation of the colorectal cancer cells HT-29 and Caco-2, and similarly only partially inhibited the production/activity of MMP-2 and MMP-9 by HT-29 cells, suggesting that COX-2 inhibition by these drugs can only partially be involved in the pharmacological effects of these derivatives. Abstract Background Tobacco and cannabis use are strongly interrelated, but current national and international cessation programs typically focus on one substance, and address the other substance either only marginally or not at all. This study aimed to identify the demand for, and describe the development and content of, the first integrative group cessation program for co-smokers of cigarettes and cannabis. Methods First, a preliminary study using expert interviews, user focus groups with (ex-)smokers, and an online survey was conducted to investigate the demand for, and potential content of, an integrative smoking cessation program (ISCP) for tobacco and cannabis co-smokers. This study revealed that both experts and co-smokers considered an ISCP to be useful but expected only modest levels of readiness for participation.Based on the findings of the preliminary study, an interdisciplinary expert team developed a course concept and a recruitment strategy. The developed group cessation program is based on current treatment techniques (such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioural therapy, and self-control training) and structured into six course sessions. The program was evaluated regarding its acceptability among participants and course instructors. Results Both the participants and course instructors evaluated the course positively. Participants and instructors especially appreciated the group discussions and the modules that were aimed at developing personal strategies that could be applied during simultaneous cessation of tobacco and cannabis, such as dealing with craving, withdrawal, and high-risk situations. Conclusions There is a clear demand for a double cessation program for co-users of cigarettes and cannabis, and the first group cessation program tailored for these users has been developed and evaluated for acceptability. In the near future, the feasibility of the program will be evaluated. Trial registration Current Controlled Trials ISRCTN15248397
