Summary of Precipitation and Streamflow for Potrero and San Clemente Creeks in Water-Year 2007, Santa Lucia Preserve, Monterey County, California

In March 2007 CSU-Monterey Bay began hydrologic monitoring of Santa Lucia Preserve for the Santa Lucia Conservancy. This project is a continuation of monitoring begun by Balance Hydrologics as part of the permit requirements for land development. The purpose of this annual report is to present data summaries for the 2007 water year (October 1, 2006 to September 31, 2007). Rainfall in water year 2007 was very low, representing the 15 year drought rainfall. Streamflow was relatively low as well as indicated by baseflow conditions approaching the drought conditions of water-year 1991 (Croyle and Smith, 2007). Document contains 30 pages)

2007 Annual Report: Hydrologic Conditions in Baseflow Reaches Pursuant to Conditions 14 and 15, Santa Lucia Preserve, Monterey County, California

This report presents the results of the 2007 baseflow condition surveys of the four major streams flowing through Santa Lucia Preserve- Las Garzas, Portrero, San Jose, and San Clemente Creeks. This report has been prepared for the Santa Lucia Conservancy and is primarily intended for the staff of Monterey County and California Department of Fish and Game, in accordance with the baseflow monitoring and reporting requirements outlined in County Conditions 14 and 15. The scope of this report is limited to the presentation and evaluation of existing baseflow conditions as required by Conditions 14 and 15, and is not intended as a comprehensive analysis. However, data presented here are an important part of the long term data set that will be used for future in depth watershed analyses. (Document contains 13 pages & 14 figs)

O Deputado Robson Marinho (PMDB-SP) informa que a aprovação do texto do substitutivo representará um grande avanço nos direitos das crianças. No Plenário da Assembleia Nacional Constituinte (ANC), constituintes discutiram diversos assuntos. O Deputado Jesualdo Cavalcanti (PFL-PI) critica o substitutivo no que se refere a questão dos cartórios. Líderes dos partidos reunidos para agilizar as votações. O Líder do PL, Deputado Adolfo de Oliveira (PL-RJ) considera que o prazo de votação não pode comprometer os trabalhos da Assembleia Nacional Constituinte (ANC). A votação na Comissão de Sistematização da Assembleia Nacional Constituinte (ANC) começou a ser feita em ritmo mais acelerado. O primeiro debate do dia foi sobre o trabalho forçado para os presos, mas a proposta foi rejeitada. O Deputado Vivaldo Barbosa (PDT-RJ) afirma ser favorável ao trabalho obrigatório dos presos. A discussão mais importante foi a da pena de morte. O Líder do PDS, Deputado Amaral Neto (PDS-RJ) defendeu-a para casos extremos, em crimes de uma violência hedionda. O Deputado José Serra (PMDB-SP) discorda e declara que os países que aboliram a pena de morte, como a França, Inglaterra e regiões dos Estados Unidos, não tiveram nenhum aumento de criminalidade. A proposta da pena de morte foi rejeitada por 84 votos contra 5.

Determination of direction of littoral transport along the north shore of Santa Rosa Island, Florida

The purpose of this study was to determine the actual direction of littoral transport along the north shore of Santa Rosa Island in the vicinity of Pensacola Beach, Florida. To accomplish this objective the sand tracer method was used for the study. Visual observations and instrument recordings of the environment factors were also made during the tracing operations. The investigation covered a time span from September 14, 1976 to March 12, 1977. (PDF contains 68 pages.)

Many of our surface waters go underground to the aquifer via sinkholes (or swallets) and the water is then called groundwater. Most of us rely on groundwater for our drinking water. Springs are where the groundwater comes to the surface to once again become surface waters. Below is a map of the springs and swallets of the Lower Santa Fe River.

Channel Islands Deep Water Monitoring Plan Development Workshop Report April 26-27, 2005 University of California, Santa Barbara

In 2003, twelve marine protected areas were established in state waters (0-3 nmi) surrounding the Channel Islands. NOAA is considering extending this network (3-6 nmi) into deeper waters of the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary (CINMS). In order for effective long-term management of the deep water reserves to occur, a well-structured monitoring program is required to assess effectiveness. The CINMS and the National Marine Sanctuary Program (NMSP) hosted a 2-day workshop in April 2005 to develop a monitoring plan for the proposed federal marine reserves in that sanctuary. Conducted at the University of California at Santa Barbara, participants included scientists from academic, state, federal, and private research institutions. Workshop participants developed project ideas that could answer priority questions posed by the NMSP. This workshop report will be used to develop a monitoring plan for the reserves.
