Laurencia terpenoid extract (LET) had been extracted from the red alga Laurencia tristicha. The study is to investigate the effects of LET supplementation on DNA oxidation and alkylation damages in mice. Forty healthy kunming mice weighing between 18g and 25g were randomly assigned into 4 groups, each consisting of ten animals. The mice were orally intubated respectively for 60 days with the designed concentrations of LET (25, 50, 100 mg/kg b.w.) for three exposed groups and salad oil (0.2 ml) for the blank group. Food and water were free for the animals. Mice in the blank and exposed groups were sacrificed after the last treatment and the blood of each animal was quickly taken for further experiments. The spontaneous and oxidized DNA damages of peripheral lymphocytes induced by H2O2 were analysed by SCGE. O-6-Methy-guanine (O-6-MeG) was measured by high performance capillary zone electrophoresis. There was no significantly difference in DNA spontaneous damage on peripheral lymphocytes of all the mice. The oxidative DNA damage in the 50 mg/Kg body weight supplement group are 286AU with the oxidation of 10 mu mol/L H2O2, significantly lower than the blank group 332AU (p<0.05). The contents of O-6-MeG in plasma in the 50mg/kg b.w. and 100mg/kg b.w. supplement group were 1.50 mu mol/L andl.88 mu mol/L, significantly lower than that of the blank group, which was 2.89 mu mol/L(p<0.05). The results from the present study indicated that the LET were rich in terpenoids and safety to be taken orally and it could improve antioxidative and decrease DNA damage effectively.

The polymer-supported bimetallic catalyst FVP-PdCl2-2CuCl(2) (PVP, poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone), obtained in situ by the addition of CuCl2 to an alcoholic solution of PVP-PdCl2, exhibits high selectivity and activity for the oxidative carbonylation of aniline with carbon monoxide and oxygen to ethyl N-phenylcarbamate in the presence of a base (NaOAc) under atmospheric pressure. The strong synergic effect of Pd-Cu gives rise to a clear increase in the selectivity and activity. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Ferrocenylphosphine-imine ligands 6 derived front (R,S)-PPFNH2-R 5 and a variety of benzaldehydes were applied in the Pd-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation of 1,3-diphenylprop-2-en-1-yl acetate 7a or pivalate 7b with dimethyl malonate. The substituent effects on the catalytic reaction were investigated, and 96% e.e. with 99% yield was achieved when the m-nitro substituted ligand 6k was used. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. The low temperature heat capacities of N-(2-cyanoethyl)aniline were measured with an automated adiabatic calorimeter over the temperature range from 83 to 353 K. The temperature corresponding to the maximum value of the apparent heat capacity in the fusion interval, molar enthalpy and entropy of fusion of this compound were determined to be 323.33 +/- 0.13 K, 19.4 +/- 0.1 kJ mol(-1) and 60.1 +/- 0.1 J K-1 mol(-1), respectively. Using the fractional melting technique, the purity of the sample was determined to be 99.0 mol% and the melting temperature for the tested sample and the absolutely pure compound were determined to be 323.50 and 323.99 K, respectively. A solid-to-solid phase transition occurred at 310.63 +/- 0.15 K. The molar enthalpy and molar entropy of the transition were determined to be 980 +/- 5 J mol(-1) and 3.16 +/- 0.02 J K-1 mol(-1), respectively. The thermodynamic functions of the compound [H-T - H-298.15] and [S-T - S-298.(15)] were calculated based on the heat capacity measurements in the temperature range of 83-353 K with an interval of 5 K. Friedel–Crafts alkylation of benzene with 1-decene was catalysed by a new family of liquid Lewis acids: liquid coordination complexes (LCCs). LCCs are prepared by mixing a metal halide (e.g. GaCl3) and a donor molecule (e.g. N,N-dimethylacetamide, urea, or trioctylphosphine oxide), with the metal halide typically used in excess. This leads to the formation of a eutectic mixture comprised of charged and neutral species in a dynamic equilibrium. GaCl3-based LCCs were used in catalytic amounts, giving high reaction rates under ambient conditions, with selectivities to 2-phenyldecane superior to those previously reported in the literature. The influence of reaction conditions and catalyst composition on the reaction rate and selectivity was investigated. Optimised reaction conditions were suggested. This exploratory study offers promise with regard to the development of safer, LCC-based alternatives to HF in industrial alkylations.
