We present a search for associated production of Higgs and W bosons in pp̄ collisions at a center of mass energy of s=1.96 TeV in 5.3 fb-1 of integrated luminosity recorded by the D0 experiment. Multivariate analysis techniques are applied to events containing one lepton, an imbalance in transverse energy, and one or two b-tagged jets to discriminate a potential WH signal from Standard Model backgrounds. We observe good agreement between data and expected backgrounds, and set an upper limit of 4.5 (at 95% confidence level and for mH=115 GeV) on the ratio of the WH cross section multiplied by the branching fraction of H→bb̄ to its Standard Model prediction, which is consistent with an expected limit of 4.8. © 2011 Elsevier B.V.

Purpose The objective of this study was to analyze the major challenges and benefits of diversity management in Brazilian companies by assessing the role of human resources. Design/methodology/approach A total of 15 case studies were carried out on companies that operate in Brazil. Brazil is a country with considerable diversity and multiracial backgrounds. Findings It was found that diversity management in Brazilian companies is still an emerging issue, and the major challenges are related to discriminatory actions taken by coworkers. Among the 15 companies studied, only four had adopted a consistent set of diversity management and human resources practices. These four companies were the only companies to affirm that diversity management requires the strong support of top management and continuous organization to sustain efforts toward incorporating diversity. Originality/value Research studies on diversity management in Brazil are scarce. The findings of this study, however, can be useful to academic professionals and company directors in countries that exhibit similar characteristics to those of Brazil, or to those who are interested in learning more about Brazil. © 2011 Emerald Group Publishing Limited. The survey sought information from the relationship between father and child with disability regarding space, responsibilities and feelings in the parental relationship. Ten fathers, aged 31 to 66 years, with varied educational and professional backgrounds, answered a questionnaire with 19 semi-structured questions grouped into 16 categories of analysis. The conclusion showed that fathers perceive disability differently over time. The information usually comes from a doctor, but when the disability is not very evident, and doesn't cause significant impairment, realization comes over time. The shock of the discovery and behaviors of rejection are major feelings for fathers. Most fathers report differences in roles played by women and men in raising children; they believe that their responsibility is to provide for the family, while the mother's duty is to accompany the child. They feel that they share with the mothers the responsibility for caring for the child and, in general they don't feel they have been accused of being distant. They try to follow the child's treatment. The children are as attached to them as to other family members. To live with a minimum of quality of life they agreed unanimously about the need for greater income and benefits from social welfare. Most recognize that they are afraid of having other children with disabilities. They express low expectations for the total independence of the children, and among the fathers who have more than one child, the majority acknowledged the existence of differential treatment. They attributed the causes to medical errors. Fathers feel much the same as mothers, but they have different ways of demonstrating what they feel.

Results are reported from a search for physics beyond the standard model in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7TeV, focusing on the signature with a single, isolated, high-transverse-momentum lepton (electron or muon), energetic jets, and large missing transverse momentum. The data sample comprises an integrated luminosity of 36 pb-1, recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The search is motivated by models of new physics, including supersymmetry. The observed event yields are consistent with standard model backgrounds predicted using control samples obtained from the data. The characteristics of the event sample are consistent with those expected for the production of tt̄ and W+jets events. The results are interpreted in terms of limits on the parameter space for the constrained minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model.
