A educação inclusiva tem por base atender os alunos sem distinção, proporcionando uma educação voltada a todos, de forma a identificar as necessidades educacionais de qualquer aluno. O presente estudo tem como objetivos verificar a ocorrência de deficiências; identificar os recursos pedagógicos que possibilitam a inclusão; conhecer as barreiras arquitetônicas, de comunicação, de atitudes e pedagógicas e que interferem no desempenho dos estudantes durante o curso e identificar as sugestões dos alunos para promover a inclusão. Trata-se de estudo exploratório, descritivo, transversal, com abordagem quantitativa. Os dados foram coletados junto a estudantes de graduação em Enfermagem por meio da aplicação de um questionário com questões abertas e fechadas. Dos respondentes, 66,3% apresentavam deficiência visual; 1,2%, deficiência auditiva e não houve relato de deficiência física. As barreiras arquitetônicas foram as mais citadas pelos estudantes participantes da pesquisa, seguidas das barreiras pedagógicas.

We formulate performance assessment as a problem of causal analysis and outline an approach based on the missing data principle for its solution. It is particularly relevant in the context of so-called league tables for educational, health-care and other public-service institutions. The proposed solution avoids comparisons of institutions that have substantially different clientele (intake).

Of the approximately 25,000 bridges in Iowa, 28% are classified as structurally deficient, functionally obsolete, or both. Because many Iowa bridges require repair or replacement with a relatively limited funding base, there is a need to develop new bridge materials that may lead to longer life spans and reduced life-cycle costs. In addition, new and effective methods for determining the condition of structures are needed to identify when the useful life has expired or other maintenance is needed. Due to its unique alloy blend, high-performance steel (HPS) has been shown to have improved weldability, weathering capabilities, and fracture toughness than conventional structural steels. Since the development of HPS in the mid-1990s, numerous bridges using HPS girders have been constructed, and many have been economically built. The East 12th Street Bridge, which replaced a deteriorated box girder bridge, is Iowa’s first bridge constructed using HPS girders. The new structure is a two-span bridge that crosses I-235 in Des Moines, Iowa, providing one lane of traffic in each direction. A remote, continuous, fiber-optic based structural health monitoring (SHM) system for the bridge was developed using off-the-shelf technologies. In the system, sensors strategically located on the bridge collect raw strain data and then transfer the data via wireless communication to a gateway system at a nearby secure facility. The data are integrated and converted to text files before being uploaded automatically to a website that provides live strain data and a live video stream. A data storage/processing system at the Bridge Engineering Center in Ames, Iowa, permanently stores and processes the data files. Several processes are performed to check the overall system’s operation, eliminate temperature effects from the complete strain record, compute the global behavior of the bridge, and count strain cycles at the various sensor locations.

In a series of three experiments, participants made inferences about which one of a pair of two objects scored higher on a criterion. The first experiment was designed to contrast the prediction of Probabilistic Mental Model theory (Gigerenzer, Hoffrage, & Kleinbölting, 1991) concerning sampling procedure with the hard-easy effect. The experiment failed to support the theory's prediction that a particular pair of randomly sampled item sets would differ in percentage correct; but the observation that German participants performed practically as well on comparisons between U.S. cities (many of which they did not even recognize) than on comparisons between German cities (about which they knew much more) ultimately led to the formulation of the recognition heuristic. Experiment 2 was a second, this time successful, attempt to unconfound item difficulty and sampling procedure. In Experiment 3, participants' knowledge and recognition of each city was elicited, and how often this could be used to make an inference was manipulated. Choices were consistent with the recognition heuristic in about 80% of the cases when it discriminated and people had no additional knowledge about the recognized city (and in about 90% when they had such knowledge). The frequency with which the heuristic could be used affected the percentage correct, mean confidence, and overconfidence as predicted. The size of the reference class, which was also manipulated, modified these effects in meaningful and theoretically important ways.

Estudo com objetivo de adaptar transculturalmente o instrumento Health and Work Performance Questionnaire (HPQ ) e avaliar as propriedades psicométricas da versão brasileira para enfermeiros. O processo de adaptação seguiu o Protocolo de Tradução da Organização Mundial da Saúde. Os dados para a avaliação das propriedades psicométricas foram coletados em um hospital público e de ensino de Ribeirão Preto em 2011. As propriedades psicométricas analisadas foram: validade de face e conteúdo (grupo de especialistas), confiabilidade pelo Alfa de Cronbach e estabilidade por teste-reteste. Na avaliação das propriedades psicométricas, a consistência interna da versão adaptada do HPQ, o alfa de cronbach foi de 0,94 para a seção A e 0,86 para a seção B do instrumento. Na análise das concordâncias da estabilidade teste-reteste, as concordâncias foram positivas e estatisticamente significativas. Dessa forma, a versão adaptada do HPQ mostrou-se válida e confiável na amostra estudada.

O presente estudo visa compreender as políticas e estratégias de Educação Especial/Inclusiva adotadas no Brasil, especificamente no Município do Rio de Janeiro, no sentido de potencializar o desenvolvimento e a implementação das mesmas em Cabo Verde. Para isso, se definiu como objetivo: refletir sobre os limites e as possibilidades dessas políticas. Neste sentido, apoiado em uma pesquisa bibliográfica qualitativa, analisou-se as políticas públicas referentes à Educação Especial/Inclusiva no Brasil, Município do Rio de Janeiro, bem como políticas internacionais e de Cabo Verde. Conforme demonstrado no presente estudo, o Brasil tem uma ampla legislação e políticas educacionais a nível federal, estadual e municipal que fomentam estruturas e recursos no âmbito da Educação Especial/Inclusão, as quais servem de exemplo para outros contextos. Por outro lado, de acordo com a análise e reflexão levadas a cabo no presente estudo, Cabo Verde ainda tem um longo percurso a ser trilhado no domínio da Educação Especial/Inclusão, apesar de algumas iniciativas já desenvolvidas. Este passa pela avaliação das limitações intrínsecas ao Sistema Educativo Cabo-verdiano. Com base na identificação dos entraves, desafios e possibilidades desvendadas, o presente estudo traça recomendações para o desenvolvimento de uma política de Educação Inclusiva em Cabo Verde, com base na análise crítica da experiência brasileira.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review and perform a meta-analysis on the diagnostic performances of (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG PET) for giant cell arteritis (GCA), with or without polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR). METHODS: MEDLINE, Embase and the Cochrane Library were searched for articles in English that evaluated FDG PET in GCA or PMR. All complete studies were reviewed and qualitatively analysed. Studies that fulfilled the three following criteria were included in a meta-analysis: (1) FDG PET used as a diagnostic tool for GCA and PMR; (2) American College of Rheumatology and Healey criteria used as the reference standard for the diagnosis of GCA and PMR, respectively; and (3) the use of a control group. RESULTS: We found 14 complete articles. A smooth linear or long segmental pattern of FDG uptake in the aorta and its main branches seems to be a characteristic pattern of GCA. Vessel uptake that was superior to liver uptake was considered an efficient marker for vasculitis. The meta-analysis of six selected studies (101 vasculitis and 182 controls) provided the following results: sensitivity 0.80 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.63-0.91], specificity 0.89 (95% CI 0.78-0.94), positive predictive value 0.85 (95% CI 0.62-0.95), negative predictive value 0.88 (95% CI 0.72-0.95), positive likelihood ratio 6.73 (95% CI 3.55-12.77), negative likelihood ratio 0.25 (95% CI 0.13-0.46) and accuracy 0.84 (95% CI 0.76-0.90). CONCLUSION: We found overall valuable diagnostic performances for FDG PET against reference criteria. Standardized FDG uptake criteria are needed to optimize these diagnostic performances.
