A novel contribution to the leptonic CP asymmetries in type II seesaw leptogenesis scenarios is obtained for the cases in which flavor effects are relevant for the dynamics of leptogenesis. In the so-called flavored leptogenesis regime, the interference between the tree-level amplitude of the scalar triplet decaying into two leptons and the one-loop wave function correction with leptons in the loop, leads to a new nonvanishing CP asymmetry contribution. The latter conserves total lepton number but violates lepton flavor. Cases in which this novel contribution may be dominant in the generation of the baryon asymmetry are briefly discussed.

The Schwinger proper-time method is an effective calculation method, explicitly gauge-invariant and nonperturbative. We make use of this method to investigate the radiatively induced Lorentz- and CPT-violating effects in quantum electrodynamics when an axial-vector interaction term is introduced in the fermionic sector. The induced Lorentz- and CPT-violating Chern-Simons term coincides with the one obtained using a covariant derivative expansion but differs from the result usually obtained in other regularization schemes. A possible ambiguity in the approach is also discussed. (C) 2001 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.

This work presents the results of the experimental study of proton induced nuclear reactions in lithium, namely the 7Li(p,α) 4He, 6Li(p,α) 3He and 7Li(p,p)7Li reactions. The amount of 7Li and 6Li identified as primordial and observed in very old stars of the Milky Way galactic halo strongly deviates from the predictions of primordial nucleosynthesis and stellar evolution models which depend, among other factors, on the cross sections of reactions like 7Li(p,α) 4He and 6Li(p,α) 3He. These discrepancies have triggered a large amount of research in the fields of stellar evolution, cosmology, pre-galactic evolution and low energy nuclear reactions. Focusing on nuclear reactions, this work has measured the 7Li(p,α) 4He and 6Li(p,α) 3He reactions cross sections (expressed in terms of the astrophysical S -factor) with higher accuracy, and the electron screening effects in these reactions for different environments (insulators and metallic targets). The 7Li(p,α) 4He angular distributions were also measured. These measurementstook place in two laboratory facilities, in the framework of the LUNA (Laboratory for Undergroud Nuclear Astrophysics) international collaboration, namely the Laboratorio ´ de Feixe de Ioes ˜ in ITN (Instituto Tecnologico ´ e Nuclear) Sacavem, ´ Portugal, and the Dynamitron-TandemLaboratorium in Ruhr-Universitat¨ Bochum, Germany. The ITN target chamber was modified to measure these nuclear reactions, with the design and construction of new components, the addition of one turbomolecular pump and a cold finger. The 7Li(p,α) 4He and 6Li(p,α) 3He reactions were measured concurrently with seven and four targets, respectively. These targets were produced in order to obtain adequate and stable lithium depth profiles. In metallic environments, the measured electron screening potential energies are much higher than the predictions of atomic-physics models. The Debye screening model applied to the metallic conduction electrons is able to explain these high values. It is a simple model, but also very robust. Concerning primordial nucleosynthesis and stellar evolution models, these results are very important as they show that laboratory measurements are well controlled, and the model inputs from these cross sections are therefore correct. In this work the 7Li(p,p)7Li differential cross section was also measured, which is useful to describe the 7Li(p,α) 4He entrance channel.

Measurements of inclusive jet production are performed in pp and Pb+Pb collisions at sNN−−−√=2.76 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 4.0 pb−1 and 0.14 nb−1 , respectively. The jets are identified with the anti-kt algorithm with R=0.4, and the spectra are measured over the kinematic range of jet transverse momentum 32nuclear modification factor, RAA, is evaluated and jets are found to be suppressed by approximately a factor of two in central collisions compared to pp collisions. The RAA shows a slight increase with pT and no significant variation with rapidity.

The aim of the present proyect is to use Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) as a complete techique that allows the understanding of fundamental physics phenomena and, at the same time, it leads to important applications in the fields of chemistry, pharmaceutical developments and biology. New experiments will be used together with traditional ones, in the characterization of new metal-polymer complexes, biological membranes and pharmaceutical compounds, some of them presenting polymorfism. NMR experiments will be complemented with diverse spectroscopic and analytical techniques: Infrared, X ray Diffraction, Thermal Analysis, solution NMR, as well as multidisciplinary investigation. Additionally, the present proyect plans to study in depth several aspects of quantum dynamics phenomena and decoherence in nuclear spin systems. The present proyect is connected with basic and applied aspects of the solid state NMR technique, developed in our country, only at FaMAF-UNC. It is is composed by multidisciplinary work and it promotes the collaboration with researchers and students coming from different fields (physics, chemistry, pharmaceutical developments, biology) and different points of our country.
