On a new genus and species of Hemicytheridae (Ostracoda, Crustacea) from the southern Brazilian coast

This study is based on 62 samples of phytal and bottom sediments collected along rocky beaches (< 3 m water depth) of the central and northern coasts of the state of Santa Catarina (26º10'/27º50'S – 48º26'/48º40'W), southern Brazil. Living and dead ostracodes distributed among 16 families were recovered. In this paper is emphasized one new hemicytherid genus and species that is described and richly illustrated: Auricythere sublitoralis gen. nov. and sp. nov. Some ecological and zoogeographical aspects of this new ostracode are briefly discussed.

Description of Dichelacera (Dichelacera) matogrossensis sp. nov. (Diptera, Tabanidae) of Brazilian Midwestern

ABSTRACT Dichelacera matogrossensis sp. nov. is described based on females from the Chapada dos Guimarães, state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. Diagnosis, discussion and illustrations are provided.

Taxonomy of the Brazilian firefly Cladodes illigeri (Coleoptera, Lampyridae): morphology and new records

ABSTRACT Cladodes illigeri (Kirby, 1818) is redescribed, and can be distinguished by the following features: color pattern overall black, paired spots and elytral margins pale yellow; pygidium bisinuate, posterior angles rounded, as long as median margin; and aedeagus with phallus 1/3 shorter than the parameres, which are sinuated apically. Cladodes lamellicornis (Motschulsky, 1854) is proposed as a junior synomym of C. illigeri. New records from the Atlantic Rainforest and illustrations for structural features are provided.

A contribution to the knowledge of the Brazilian Strepsiptera: (Insecta)

Neste trabalho procuramos atualizar e acrescentar observações novas ao conhecimento dos Strepsiptera do Brasil. Descrevemos 4 espécies novas da família Myrmecolacidae, representados apenas por machos e uma espécie nova da família Halictophagidae, representada por macho, fêmea e hospedador. Registramos a ocorrência, no Brasil, de uma espécie da família Stylopidae, conhecida anteriormente da Argentina e fornecemos dados adicionais sôbre uma espécie da família Mengeidae, Triozocera paulistana Kogan, 1958. Baseados em HOFENEDER & FULMEK (1942-43) damos a lista dos hospedadores encontrados estilopizados no Brasil.

New records about Brazilian Strepsiptera (Insecta)

Além de descereverem uma nova espécie de Halictophagidae, Halictophagus lappidae, baseados em uma fêmea encontrada parasitando um exemplar de Lappida armata Melichar, 1912 (Homoptera, Dictyopharidae) proveniente de Cachimbo, Pará, os AA. fazem a descrição das larvas do 1º estadio de Halictophagus lopesi Oliveira & Kogan, 1959, e de pseudoxenos pierci (Brèthes, 1922) (Stylopidae), as primeiras larvas de Strepsiptera descritas do Brasil.

Brazilian strepsiptera (Insecta) parasitizing vespidae, with the description of three new species of Xenos rossius, 1793 (Stylopidae)

Num lote de 10 vespas, estilopizadas, gentilmente cedidas para estudo pelo Dr. R. L. Araujo, de S. Paulo, os A. A., identificaram 5 espécies do gênero Xenos Rossius (Família Stylopidae): Xenos bohlsi Hoffmann, descrita do Paraguai e Xenos bonairensis Brèthes, descrita da Argentina, e 3 consideradas novas, que são aqui descritas.

The isolation of the perfect form of Microsporum Gypseum, Nannizzia Gypsea, Stockdale, 1963, from brazilian soil

Our work is on the isolation from brazilian soil of the perfect stage of Microsporum gypseum, Nannizzia gypsea, Stock., 1963, using cut sterilized children hair as bait.

A rewiew of the subgenus Trichopygomyia Barretto, 1962; with description of a new species from the brazilian Amazon Basin (Diptera: Psychodidae, Phlebotominae)

The subgenus Trichopygomyia Barreto, 1962 of the phlebotomine genus Lutzomyia França, 1924 is reviewed. This subgenus corresponds to the informal species group longispina of Theodor (1965). Lutzomyia (Trichopygomya) ratcliffei n.sp. from the Brazilian Amazon Basin is described. Figures, keys, distribution maps and notes on ecology are presented for all the known forms. The better known species are most frequently encountered in armadillo burrows and, therefore, could well be vectors of Leishmania.

Lymnaea columella: two new Brazilian localities in the states of Amazonas and Bahia

The occurrence of Lymnaea columella is recorded in Tefé, Amazonas state, where it was found together with Drepanotrema anatinum, Physa marmorata and pomacea sp. L. columella was also collected in Salvador, Bahia state, at the dique do Tororó, an urban lake formely mentioned (as "lac Baril") by Moricand (1853) as a breeding-place of Biomphalaria glabrata, Drepanotrema cimex, D. depressissimum, Pomacea lineata, P. decussata and Ancylus moricandi. The four first-mentioned species, as well as physa cubensis and Hemisinus brasiliensis, were also collected now. This is the first record of a lymnaeid in the Northeastern region of Brazil.
