X-Ray analysis to assess mechanical damage in sweet corn seeds

The X-ray test is a precise, fast and non-destructive method to detect mechanical damage in seeds. In the present study, the efficiency of X-ray analysis in identifying the extent of mechanical damage in sweet corn seeds and its relationship with germination and vigor was evaluated. Hybrid 'SWB 551' (sh2) seeds with round (R) and flat (F) shapes were classified as large (L), medium (M1, M2 and M3) and small (S), using sieves with round and oblong screens. After artificial exposure to different levels of damage (0, 1, 3, 5 and 7 impacts), seeds were X-rayed (15 kV, 5 min) and submitted to germination (25 °C/5 days) and cold (10 °C/7 days) tests. Digital images of normal and abnormal seedlings and ungerminated seeds from germination and cold tests were jointly analyzed with the seed X-ray images. Results showed that damage affecting the embryonic axis resulted in abnormal seedlings or dead seeds in the germination and cold tests. The X-ray analysis is efficient for identifying mechanical damage in sweet corn seeds, allowing damage severity to be associated with losses in germination and vigor.

Teste de raios X na avaliação da qualidade de sementes de mamona

O crescente interesse pelo uso de combustíveis renováveis nos últimos anos fez com que culturas oleaginosas, como a mamona, se tornassem importante objeto de estudo. No entanto, para a instalação de campos desta cultura, é imprescindível o uso de sementes de alta qualidade. O objetivo da pesquisa contida neste trabalho foi verificar a eficiência do teste de raios X na avaliação da qualidade de sementes de mamona após a colheita e armazenamento. Três lotes de sementes da cv. 'IAC-2028' (provenientes, respectivamente, dos racemos primário, secundário e terciário) e dois lotes da cv. 'Guarani' (lotes comerciais com sementes de todos os racemos misturados) foram avaliados de acordo com a morfologia interna pelo teste de raios X, na intensidade de 20 kV por 60 segundos de exposição. Posteriormente, as sementes radiografadas foram submetidas ao teste de germinação de modo a relacionar a morfologia interna das sementes com as respectivas plântulas normais, anormais ou sementes mortas. Após seis meses de armazenamento acondicionadas em sacos de papel Kraft, em condições não controladas de temperatura e umidade relativa do ar, amostras dessas sementes foram novamente avaliadas pelo teste de raios X. O teste de raios X é eficiente para avaliar a morfologia interna das sementes e seus reflexos no potencial fisiológico.

Seed quality parameters of three interspecific hybrids of elephant grass x pearl millet

An interspecific hybrid resulting from the crossing of elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schumach) x pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Brown) has been developed. This hybrid, however, revealed low phenotypic uniformity and low production of pure seeds. Through recurrent selection, two improved populations were obtained (genotypes Corte and Pastoreio). The aim of this study was assessing seed quality of the three hybrids (genotypes Corte, Pastoreio and Paraiso) by tests of: seed purity; seed germination; accelerated aging test, at 42 ºC; 1,000 seeds weight; drying curves; and sorption and desorption isotherms. Recurrent selection altered the seed size and increased initial quality of population for genotype Pastoreio. Drying curves for the three hybrids have shown similar behavior and reached moisture contents of 2.1%, 1.9%, and 1.8%, respectively, after 63 days. The accelerated aging test showed that hybrid Pastoreio was the most vigorous.

Tutkielmassani käsittelen finiittiverbittömän koska X konstruktion variaatiota ja variaation hyväksyttävyyttä. Konstruktiokieliopin näkemysten mukaisesti käsittelen rakennetta itsenäisenä kielen yksikkönä ja tutkin sen rajoja ja suhdetta muihin konstruktioihin. Perustan päätelmäni kahteen toisiaan tukevaan aineistoon: verkosta kerättyyn 400 virkkeen tekstikorpusaineistoon ja kyselytestiaineistoon. Konstruktion prototyyppi on nominatiivimuotoinen lyhyt koska NP, jonka paikka on virkkeen lopussa. Konstruktio on kuitenkin produktiivinen, ja siinä esiintyy paljon variaatiota. Koska-rakenteet muodostavat jatkumon, jonka toisessa päässä ovat prototyyppiset koska NP:t ja toisessa päässä yleiskieliset koska-sivulauseet. Näiden väliin jäävät epäprototyyppiset koska X konstruktiot ja koska X fragmentit. Koska X fragmentit ovat finiittiverbittömiä lausemaisia konstruktioita, joiden verbittömyys on kontekstissaan tunnusmerkitöntä. Kielenkäyttäjät pitävät hyväksyttävimpinä kiteytyneitä konstrukteja. Mitä tutumpi koska X konstruktio on, sitä hyväksyttävämmäksi sen toteumat arvioidaan. Suurin ero on prototyyppisissä koska NP konstrukteissa, joita koska X konstruktiota käyttävät pitävät erittäin luontevina mutta muut kielenkäyttäjät epäkieliopillisina. Koska X konstruktio sopii kielenkäyttäjien mielestä epämuodolliseen tyyliin ja leikillisiin asiayhteyksiin. Konstruktiossa ei ole kyse ellipsistä tai lyhentämisestä, vaan sillä on oma tehtävänsä kielessä. Koska X kantaa omaa merkitystä, joka ei ole välitettävissä muilla rakenteilla. Se ilmaisee ironiaa, jonka ymmärtäminen perustuu kirjoittajan ja vastaanottajan yhteiseen tietoon. Koska X voi myös toimia referoinnin keinona, joka osoittaa väheksyvää suhtautumista referoidun ryhmän tai henkilön perusteluihin.

Lacan x Buber/Paz: entre o contingente e o eterno

Um confronto entre as idéias de Lacan de um lado e as de Buber e O. Paz de outro revela uma incompatibilidade absoluta de posições. Para Lacan, a unidade primordial é irresgatável e, aliás, jamais existiu, não passando de uma alucinação. O nascimento impõe ao sujeito uma condição de fragmentaridade. Toda a empresa humana se reduz à busca da unidade perdida, ao desejo, que visa a objetos que, produzirem um simulacro de gozo, preenchem uma ausência primeira com sua presença de maneira falseada. Inversamente, para Buber/Paz, o todo primordial se instala desde o princípio e jamais deixa de existir. A ação humana pode despertar este todo a cada momento, em cada ato e fato corriqueiro.
