Single-photon detection using a quantum dot field effect transistor

A novel device for detection of single photons based on a GaAs/AlGaAs modulation doped field effect transistor (MODFET) which does not rely on avalanche processes is proposed. The optimal channel electron densities and quantum dot parameters for detection of single photons are discussed.

On a classical problem of acoustic wave scattering by a free vortex: Numerical modelling

The scattering of sound from a point source by a Rankine vortex is investigated numerically by solving the Euler equations with the novel high-resolution CABARET method. For several Mach numbers of the vortex, the time-average amplitudes of the scattered field obtained from the numerical modeling are compared with the theoretical scaling laws' predictions. Comparison of quantum chemistry calculation methods of nucleic acid base-quartets

Nine base-quartets were calculated by six semi-empirical methods and ab initio Hartree-Fork method using STO-3G basis set. The results showed that PM3 method can be use to calculate base quartets, the results of PM3 calculations are close to the ab initio
