This paper presents a method for the sequential road feature delineation from digital images. It is based on a feedback loop between extrapolation and refinement steps of a given road centerline point, using in both steps correlation techniques. Firstly, a previously extracted road centerline point is linearly extrapolated, resulting in an approximate position. Secondly, this approximate position is corrected by comparing gray level profiles extracted perpendicularly to the extrapolation direction. This strategy is then repeated to allow the entire road centerline to be extracted or a stop point to be found. In order to initialize the extraction process, the operator needs to supply a starting point plus direction and width. Experimental results obtained from the application of the method to real image data are presented and discussed in this paper.

The influence of minimum lubrication, optimized and conventional cooling at different flows and application rates of cutting fluids on the quality of hardened-steel pieces produced by external cylindrical plunge grinding with super-abrasive grinding wheels with low CBN concentrations was verified. The analysis of the quality of the pieces was performed through the assessment of the behavior of the specific energy of the grinding, roughness, roundness deviation, and the generated residual stress. By analyzing of the application ways and of the several flows and application rates of the cutting fluid, one could encounter lubrication/cooling conditions that enable the reduction in cutting fluid volume, reduction in grinding time without compromising the dimensional parameters (superficial finishing, surface integrity). Regarding the different applications of cutting fluids, it could be noted the optimized application for higher velocities has presented the best performance, demonstrating the effectiveness of the new concept of nozzle utilized.

This study, of an instrumental nature, discusses the theoretical differences which underpin the documentary analysis models used in traditional Diplomatics and Contemporary Diplomatics. Undoubtedly, both models of analysis contribute to the understanding of the sources -a vital point of the process of analyzing the document to be used in any area. Thus, the choice of either technique must take into account the goals proposed for the research, according to the object that is taken as the reference point: the archival series or the individual document. That way, issues such as the evidential value and diplomatic authenticity are important within the Archival Science, which seeks through auxiliary disciplines to verify the historical trail of the document, from the moment of its production, usage and archiving, as well as the various custodians, contributing in a large measure to the understanding of its information -what is registered as well as the context- in its broadest sense.

PURPOSE: To compare the diagnostic accuracy of sonohysterography (HSN) and conventional transvaginal ultrasound (USG) in assessing the uterine cavity of infertile women candidate to assisted reproduction techniques (ART). METHODS: Comparative cross-sectional study with 120 infertile women candidate to ART, assisted at Centro de Reprodução Assistida (CRA) of Hospital Regional da Asa Sul (HRAS), Brasília-DF, from August 2009 to November 2010. Sonohysterography was performed with saline solution infusion in a close system. The sonohysterography finding was compared to previous USG results. The uterine cavity was considered abnormal whenthe endometrium was found to be thicker than expectedduring the menstrual cycle and whenan endometrial polyp, a submucous myoma and an abnormal shape of the uterine cavity were observed. The statistical analysis was doneusing absolute frequencies, percentage values and the χ 2, with the level of significance set at5%. RESULTS:HSN revealed that 92 (76.7%) infertile women candidate to ARThad anormal uterine cavity, while 28 (23.3%) had the following abnormalities: 15 polyps (12.5%).
