Für viele der ehemals in der Agrarlandschaft weit verbreiteten Tagfalter- und Widderchenarten wurden in den letzten Jahren rückläufige Trends ermittelt. Agrarumweltmaßnahmen und das seit der neuen Förderperiode 2014 bestehende Greening der Direktzahlungen erscheinen aktuell als die einzigen Mechanismen mit dem Potenzial Arten der Normallandschaft großflächig zu erhalten. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde 2013 und 2014 die Bedeutung förderungsfähiger, mehrjähriger sowie artenreicher Blühstreifen und Feldraine für Tagfalter und Widderchen in der Agrarlandschaft um Bernburg-Strenzfeld analysiert. Auf den angelegten, wildkräuterreichen Flächen konnten im Vergleich zu gewöhnlichen Randstrukturen und Ackerflächen sowohl mehr Tagfalter- und Widderchenarten als auch -individuen nachgewiesen werden. Mehrjährige, artenreiche Blühstreifen und Feldraine gewährleisten von April bis September ein stetiges und diverses Nektarangebot und stellen für Falter Lebensraum und somit eine Maßnahme für den Biotopverbund dar. Ein Zusammenhang zwischen verfügbaren Nektarpflanzenarten und Falterarten sowie –individuen konnte belegt werden. Besonders bedeutsame Nektarpflanzen wurden ermittelt. Mit Kulturarten angelegte Flächen besitzen, im Vergleich zu aus artenreichem Saatgut etablierten, ab dem ersten Jahr eine geringere Bedeutsamkeit als Lebensraum für Tagfalter und Widderchen. Es konnten deutlich weniger Nektarpflanzen und eine sehr geringe Stetigkeit dieser nachgewiesen werden. Förderungsfähige, mehrjährige Blühstreifen und Feldraine verfügen bei einer Anlage mit artenreichen Wildkrautmischungen, einer geeigneten Pflege und der Anlage in der Nähe geeigneter Donatorflächen über das Potenzial, die intensiv genutzte Agrarlandschaft für Tagfalter und Widderchen aufzuwerten.

The impact of a power plant cooling system in the Bahía Blanca estuary (Argentina) on the survival of target zooplanktonic organisms (copepods and crustacean larvae) and on overall mesozooplankton abundance was evaluated over time. Mortality rates were calculated for juveniles and adults of four key species in the estuary: Acartia tonsa Dana, 1849 and Eurytemora americana Williams, 1906 (native and invading copepods), and larvae of the crab Chasmagnathus granulata Dana, 1851 and the invading cirriped Balanus glandula Darwin, 1854. Mean total mortality values were up to four times higher at the water discharge site than at intake, though for all four species, significant differences were only registered in post-capture mortality. The findings show no evidence of greater larval sensitivity. As expected, the sharpest decrease in overall mesozooplankton abundance was found in areas close to heated water discharge.

The ostracode assemblages from Cananéia-Iguape estuarine/lagoon system (southernmost State of São Paulo) are here discussed in detail for the first time. Thirty-four sites, approximately 1 km equidistant, were sampled along the system, including the Cananéia Sea, Pequeno Sea, Cubatão Sea, Ribeira de Iguape River and Itapitangui River. The ostracodes throughout this area have poor assemblages, with a total of 662 specimens of dead and living organisms. The majority of the ostracode fauna is composed of euryhaline species, as follows: Cyprideis multidentata Hartmann, 1955 (174 specimens), Minicythere heinii Ornellas, 1974 (54 specimens), Tanella gracilis Kingma, 1948 (96 specimens) and Whatleyella sanguinettiae Coimbra, Carreño & Ferron, 1994 (226 specimens). Although there are few studies on the Brazilian mixohaline ostracode faunas, including the euryhaline marginal marine taxa, the published data show that the group is best known in the south and southeast regions. Based on this review and with the new data presented in this paper, the geographical distribution of eight mixohaline key species in southern and southeastern Brazil is also discussed.

ABSTRACT Seven sites were examined in the Challhuaco-Ñireco system, located in the reserve of the Nahuel Huapi National Park, however part of the catchment is urbanized, being San Carlos de Bariloche (150,000 inhabitants) placed in the lower part of the basin. Physico-chemical variables were measured and benthic macroinvertebrates were collected during three consecutive years at seven sites from the headwater to the river outlet. Sites near the source of the river were characterised by Plecoptera, Ephemeroptera, Trichoptera and Diptera, whereas sites close to the river mouth were dominated by Diptera, Oligochaeta and Mollusca. Regarding functional feeding groups, collector-gatherers were dominant at all sites and this pattern was consistent among years. Ordination Analysis (RDA) revealed that species assemblages distribution responded to the climatic and topographic gradient (temperature and elevation), but also were associated with variables related to human impact (conductivity, nitrate and phosphate contents). Species assemblages at headwaters were mostly represented by sensitive insects, whereas tolerant taxa such as Tubificidae, Lumbriculidae, Chironomidae and crustacean Aegla sp. were dominant at urbanised sites. Regarding macroinvertebrate metrics employed, total richness, EPT taxa, Shannon diversity index and Biotic Monitoring Patagonian Stream index resulted fairly consistent and evidenced different levels of disturbances at the stream, meaning that this measures are suitable for evaluation of the status of Patagonian mountain streams.
