The consulting firm of Wilbur Smith and Associates was contracted by the South Carolina Department of Archives and History and the city of Columbia through the City's Landmarks Commission to prepare a feasibility study and conceptual master plan for lands adjoining and related to the Columbia Canal. The study area for the project includes the waterfront on both sides of the three Columbia rivers from a mile south of the Blossom Street Bridge on the Congaree to about a half mile south of I-20 on the Broad, and to about a half mile above the Riverbanks Zoo on the Saluda. The recommendations resulting from this study appear in Chapter 10 and are the conclusions of the study team's evaluations summarized i n the nine preceding chapters.

The Arts in Basic Curriculum (ABC) Project is a multifaceted initiative that has positively impacted arts education in South Carolina and the nation. Founded in 1987 the ABC Project has become a national model and influenced the advancement of education in and through the arts with a multitude of programs, models, and schemes. This is an overview of the full history. Parts I and II will chronicle events that were foundational to the project from inception in 1987 to the celebration of its 20th anniversary in 2007. Part III gives detailed descriptions of ten of the most important facets of the project.

Since 1999, the South Carolina Arts Commission, the South Carolina Department of Education, and later the Arts in Basic Curriculum Project (ABC) have co-sponsored the Arts Education Research Project to track the progress and effects of arts education reform efforts in various ABC schools across the state. This report addresses the specific purposes of the Arts Education Research Project which were to (a) document the arts instruction in place prior to reform implementation, (b) determine the effects of increased, modified, or integrated arts instruction, and (c) identify potential influences that promote, inhibit, or sustain changes in schools that implemented arts reform.

Triennial 92 is a joint project of two state agencies, the South Carolina Arts Commission and the South Carolina State Museum. The exhibition celebrates the Arts Commission's 25th year of support of the arts in South Carolina and marks the fourth year of a successful series of exhibitions co-sponsored by the Arts Commission and the State Museum.
