This article adresses the idiomatic use of Brazilian percussion instruments and their notation on compositions. It uses the Brazilian "pandeiro", which is the principal instrument of this category, to make a technical and comparative analysis of the two main notational systems for this instrument, which are the models developed by Luiz D'Anunciacao and the other by Carlos Stasi. It also includes suggestions to help the development of this notation. It gives a list and description of several method books that could help percussionists, composers and arrangers to deepen their knowledge of Brazilian percussion.

Intrauterine devices (IUD) have been used by approximately hundred million of women in the world. IUD are unprescribed to women who have pelvic inflammation disease predisposition which is caused in general by non-treated sexually transmitted diseases (STD). Trichomoniasis, one of the most important vaginal infections, is caused by a flagellated protozoan, Trichomonas vaginalis, transmitted by sexual contact and also asyntomatic women are able to transmit it. The objective of this work was verify by scanning microscopy the adhesion of this protozoan on plastic and metalic IUD surfaces. IUD fragments were added in Diamond medium containing T. vaginalis and after 3 days at 37°C incubation, they were taken out and treated as necessary for scanning microscopy. The analysis showed showed the adhesion of the protozoans on plastic and metalic IUD surfaces. Even though the IUD were not yet directly associated with high incidence of the inflammation pelvic disease, it would become an infection reservoir of potencial pathogenic organisms.

The aim of this investigation was to evaluate four reference methods to estimate evapotranspiration (Makkink, Hargreaves, Class A pan and Radiation), compared tb Penman-Monteith method, that is considered standard by the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Errors due to variable measurements in the reference evapotranspiration estimate were taken into consideration. The research was developed in an experimental area of the Department of Rural Engieering of the School of Agricultural and Veterinarian Sciences, Campus of Jaboticabal, São Paulo State University. An automated weather station was used and it was equipped with sensors to measure global and net radiation, temperature, relative humidity, and wind speed. The aftermath showed a better adjustment to Hargreaves. Makkink, Class A pan and Radiation methods are different from Penman-Monteith, therefore, they cannot be compared. To evaluate methods to estimate evapotranspiration and avoid possible evaluation errors, ETo estimate errors must be considered.
