Position paper from the IBRA Symposium on Surgery of the Head - The 2nd International Symposium for Condylar Fracture Osteosynthesis, Marseille, France 2012

Background: This is a position paper from the 2nd International Bone Research Association (IBRA) Symposium for Condylar Fracture Osteosynthesis 2012 was held at Marseille, succeeding the first congress in Strasbourg, France, in 2007. The goal of this IBRA symposium and this paper was to evaluate current trends and potential changes of treatment strategies for mandibular condylar fractures, which remain controversial over the past decades.Methods: Using a cross-sectional study design, we enrolled the consensus based on the panel of experts and participants in the IBRA Symposium 2012. The outcomes of interest were the panel and electronic votes on management of condylar base, neck and head fractures, and panel votes on endoscopic and paediatric condylar fractures. Appropriate descriptive and univariate statistics were used.Results: The consensus derived from 14 experts and 41 participant surgeons, using 12 case scenarios and 27 statements. The experts and participants had similar decision on the treatment of condylar base, neck and head fractures, as well as similar opinion on complications of condylar fracture osteosynthesis. They had a parallel agreement on using open reduction with internal fixation (ORIF) as treatment of choice for condylar base and neck fractures in adults. Endoscopic approaches should be considered for selected cases, such as condylar base fractures with lateral displacement. There was also a growing tendency to perform ORIF in condylar head fractures. The experts also agreed to treat children (> 12 years old) in the same way as adults and to consider open reduction in severely displaced and dislocated fractures even in younger children. Nevertheless, non-surgical treatment should be the first choice for children <6 years of age. The decision to perform surgery in children was based on factors influencing facial growth, appropriate age for ORIF, and disagreement to use resorbable materials in children.Conclusions: The experts and participating surgeons had comparable opinion on management of condylar fractures and complications of ORIF. Compared to the first Condylar Fracture Symposium 2007 in Strasbourg, ORIF may now be considered as the gold standard for both condylar base and neck fractures with displacement and dislocation. Although ORIF in condylar head fractures in adults and condylar fractures in children with mixed dentition is highly recommended, but this recommendation requires further investigations. A noção de festa nas relações públicas: a comunicação comunitária na Feira da Vila Madalena

This paper aims to review the concept of Festival in the area of Public Relations and discuss about it according to the Classical Anthropology, Urban Anthropology and Public Relations theories, by their main exponents Emile Durkhein, Rita Amaral, Roberto Damatta and Joseph Guilherme Magnani, Waldemar Kunsch, Margarida Kunsch, Cicilia Peruzzo, Rennan Mafra and Márcio Simeone. The 33rd Vila Madalena Fair, a craft fair that takes place once a year in São Paulo, was chosen as a case study to provide this research with an empirical dimension. The Fair emerged as a result of the neighborhood residents and merchants´ mobilization in the late 70's and until today, has been responsible for the re-updating and the strengthening of the neighborhood identity. Thus, the proposal is to evaluate the possibilities of the Festival performance as a favorable strategy to sociability, to the strengthening and the re-updating the symbolic representations of a community

Secondary metabolites from Spirotropis longifolia (DC) Baill and their antifungal activity against human pathogenic fungi

A phytochemical study of the ethyl acetate extract of the roots and adventitious roots of Spirotropis longifolia, a monodominant tree species of the Guianan rainforest, has allowed the isolation of three compounds: 2- hydroxy-8,9-methylenedioxy-2',2'-dimethylpyrano-[5',6':4,3]-6a-prenyl-[6aS,11aS]-pterocarpan (spirotropin A), 2-hydroxy-8,9-methylenedioxy-2',2'-dimethy1-3',4'-dihydropyrano-[5',6':4,3]-6a-prenyl-(6aS,11aS]-pterocarpan (spirotropin B), and 5,7-dihydroxy-6.8-dipreny1-2 ''''.2 ''''-dimethylpyrano[5 '''',6 '''': 3',4]-isoflavone (spirotropone). In addition, 10 known compounds, trans-oxyresveratrol, trans-resveratrol, piceatannol, daidzein, genistein, isoprunetin, lupeol, latifolol, gnetin D and gnetin E, were also isolated. These compounds were evaluated for their antifungal activity and their cytotoxicity, and their structures were established by 1D and 2D NMR, HRMS, CD and optical rotation measurements. We analyse the interplay between the Higgs to diphoton rate and electroweak precision measurements constraints in extensions of the Standard Model with new uncolored charged fermions that do not mix with the ordinary ones. We also compute the pair production cross sections for the lightest fermion and compare them with current bounds.

Associação de técnicas conservadoras para otimizar a estética do sorriso: clareamento dental e microabrasão do esmalte

As várias opções para a realização de tratamentos estéticos conservadores permitem ao profissional a escolha de materiais e técnicas apropriados, que melhor se enquadrem nas características individuais de cada paciente e na realidade de seu consultório. No caso clínico apresentado, a técnica de clareamento dental em consultório com peróxido de hidrogênio a 35% (Total Blanc Office, DFL), ativado com luz híbrida LED/LASER e a microabrasão de esmalte com pasta de acido fosfórico a 37% e pedra pomes, foram associados. Os resultados com o clareamento em consultório são imediatos, de forma que o profissional dispõe de total controle sobre aplicação do gel clareador em áreas e dentes específicos. A microabrasão do esmalte é um tratamento simples e custo relativamente baixo, remove as manchas superficiais do esmalte com preservação de estrutura dental. No caso apresentado, a associação das duas técnicas proporcionou a obtenção de excelente resultado estético em apenas uma sessão de atendimento.
