Dental avulsion is the most severe type of traumatic tooth injuries because it causes damageto several structures and results in the complete displacement of the tooth from its socketin the alveolar bone. The ideal situation is to replant an exarticulated tooth immediatelyafter avulsion because the extraoral time is a determinant factor for treatment successand for a good prognosis. However, it is not always possible. The success of replantationdepends on a number of factors that may contribute to accelerate or minimize theoccurrence of root resorption or ankylosis, among which is the type and characteristicsof the medium used for temporary storage during the time elapsed between avulsionand replantation. Maintaining the tooth in an adequate wet medium that can preserve,as longer as possible, the vitality of the periodontal ligament cells that remain on rootsurface is the key to success of replantation. Recent research has led to the developmentof storage media that produce conditions that closely resemble the original socketenvironment, with adequate osmolality (cell pressure), pH, nutritional metabolites andglucose, and thus create the best possible conditions for storage. Although these storagemedia can now be purchased in the form of retail products, the most common scenariois that such a product will not be readily available at the moment of the accident Thispaper reviews the literature on the different storage media that have been investigatedfor avulsed teeth based on full-length papers retrieved from PubMed/Medline, Lilacs, BBOand SciELO electronic databases using the key words storage medium , transportationmedium , avulsion , tooth avulsion , replantation , tooth replantation , milk and propolis .After application of inclusion and exclusion criteria, 39 papers were selected and criticallyreviewed with respect to the characteristics, efficacy and ease of access of the storagemedium. Introduction: The tumor odontogenic keratocyst (toq) is a benign disorder, which is controversial in its diagnosis and treatment. It is characterized by a true neoplasms arising from remnants the dental lamina. It occurs predominantly in the angle mandible, which may or may not be related to a tooth and whose importance is due to its aggressive behavior and high recurrence rate. The causes of the high recurrence rates. The thin capsule and friable tissue may favor the toq retention of epithelial debris and, moreover, the presence of satellite cells in the lesion site is responsible for the increased proliferative capacity of clinical entity. Objective: To present the peculiarities toq inherent in using a clinical case of toq in mandible. Case report: TOQ in the jaw in patient, 16 years old male presenting important lesion radiographically radiolucent related to the impacted tooth. Final comments: In consideration of the high rate of recurrence chosen treatment proved effective and was not any evidence of recurrence.

Introduction: The odontogenic keratocyst tumor (OKT) derived from dental lamina rests with particularities and specific histological features, with high rates of relapse and aggressive clinical behavior. Presents certain predilection for males, affecting the mandible of 60% to 80% of cases may be related to impacted tooth 25 to 45% of cases. Objective: To highlight the clinical, histopathological and imaging procedures of the OKT, as well as discuss the treatment of this injury. Case Report: To report a case of 10 years of age to look for the orthodontist to correct anterior open bite was observed in panoramic radiography radiolucent area in the region of the body of the mandible associated with pathological inclusion of the lower premolar. It was performed an incisional biopsy of the lesion and the histopathologic diagnosis was odontogenic keratocyst tumor. It was performed a CT scan to assess the extent of the injury and its relation to anatomic structures. How to conduct, we opted for the extraction of the deciduous molar and enucleation of the lesion, preserving the premolar included. The same goes on clinical and radiographic control 18 months, after removal of OKT obtaining the eruption of premolar that was involved in the injury. Final Comments: It is necessary to adopt protocols that include dental care knowledge of oral diagnosis, medical history and careful clinical evaluation without forgetting the need for histopathological confirmation.

The Oro-antral Fistula is a common pathologic event, which occurs an opening or communication of the maxillary sinus with the oral cavity through dental extractions of upper posterior elements whose roots have close relationship with the maxillary sinus. This study aims to clarify the Surgeon Dentist about the possible etiological factors responsible for Oro-antral Communication, to identify its clinical and radiographic signs, to explain the Buccal Fat Pad’s anatomy and functioning and to describe the surgical technique adopted front of these cases. For this, the authors present a case of a patient who had a fistula in the region where there was a dental extraction of the upper posterior element. The treatment of Oro-antral Fistula using the buccal fat pad provides to be a safe and effective surgical method, because this element presents a rich blood supply and easy access. Many authors have found that this method have a broad application, large index of success, lower risk of infection, provides a comfortable post-operative for the patient. However, it needs to be done properly so that you have minimum incidence of failures, and this requires some caution on the part of professional.

The odontogenic keratocyst is called keratocyst odontogenic tumor (TOQ), due to its features compatible with neoplasms, such as its high recurrence rate and mechanism of growth. Although its etiology has unknown, the origin seems to be connected with dental lamina remaining. This entity is generally benign, with slow progression, asymptomatic, and among the odontogenic tumors, its prevalence is high. It affects mainly males, with predilection for the posterior mandible, while in most cases associated with an impacted tooth. Radiographically, this lesion is unilocular. Histological features are stratified epithelial basal cells with hyperchromatic paraqueratinizado. Treatment ranges from conservative to radical interventions. As a result of the controversy as TOQ tumor entity, the present work is a literature review of current findings, emphasizing its intrinsic features to contribute to developments in the study of this new entity.

Soft tissue recessions frequently cause esthetic disharmony and dissatisfaction. The results of coverage in peri-implant sites, in comparison with soft tissue coverage around a tooth, is less predictable. This clinical report describes the correction of an esthetic problem with a single-tooth implant-supported using a subepithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG) combined with the re-establishment of a new limit of gingival margin, and emergence crown profile. After anamnese and clinical exam it was observed an implant in the region of tooth 22 in vestibular position to alveolar ridge with a recession of 5 mm in its vestibular face. In the first cirurgical procedure the crown and the abutment were removed and a SCTG associated with a coronally positioned flap was performed in order to re-establish the limit of gingival margin. After 90 days, it was observed that the tissue in the implant site showed no adequate volume or thickness. Because of that, another SCTG was performed. The reopening procedure to install the healing cap was performed after 4 weeks. Then the prosthesis was installed. At 180 and 360 days postoperative, the implant adjacent tissue presented regular contour, color compatible with health and absence of bleeding. The patient was satisfied with the esthetic result. According to the clinical results and favorable esthetics it was possible to conclude that the use of ETC to correct an esthetic deficiency may be a feasible approach to establish new and stable peri-implant soft tissue contours.

Objective: Evaluate the impact of the use of strip adhesive over the quality of life of institutionalized patients and wearers of complete dentures. Material and method: Twenty-nine institutionalized patients wearers of complete denture were selected to this study and after a clinical exam, a questionnaire (adjusted and based upon the index of Oral Health Impact Profile and Oral Health-Related Quality of Life, OHIP and OHQOL) was applied to evaluate issues related to epidemiological conditions (gender and age), quality of life (pain, discomfort, functional limitations, phonetic, social, psychological and esthetic), taste and notion of implant treatment. Following this part, the patients received instruction to use the strips adhesives (Corega Fita Adesiva, Glaxo-Smith-Kline, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), considering three in maxillary prosthesis and two in the lower prosthesis during a period of 30 days. After this period, all the patients were recall and the questionnaire was reapplied; add some adhesive performance questions, to compare the results before and after the adhesive use in terms of percentage. Result: After the adhesive strips use there were improvement of the functional, social and physcological limitation aspects, but without percentual increasement of phonetic and esthetics aspects. The results showed 65.5% of the answers stating adhesive maintenance between 6-12 hours, easy removal (68.9%), and without change the taste (89.6%). The notion for implant treatment was decreased changing from 75.8 to 37.9% after the adhesive use. Conclusion: The results enhanced a positive impact over quality of life of the respondents after the strip adhesive use, showing decrease of pain and discomfort, mainly of inferior dental prosthesis.

Considering the importance of the esthetic and the adequate register of vertical dimension (VD) to the oral rehabilitation, this study had as aims the analysis and comparison of two methods to get VD (Pleasure and Willis), functional space (FE), acquisition and correlation of facial and dental measurements. To do this, rest (RVD) and occlusal vertical dimension (OVD) and FE were achieved from the 30 students of the Federal University of Goias College of Dentistry. Following that, dental measurements of height and of the superior central incisors (SCI) and canine distance were registered. A facial analysis was performed to get the intercomissura, interalar, interpupilar, intercantal distance, besides register parameters as coincidence of dental and facial line, type of smile, face and SCI forms, and mastication type. The collected data were tabulated, compared by medias and standard deviations, and submitted to non-parametrical statistical analysis of Kruskal-Wallis and .Mann-Whitney with 5% of probability. The results doesn’t indicated statistical significant difference between FE of the two techniques. The measures of facial analysis are comparable with literature published data’s, but can’t be used as a parameter to the selection of intercanine distance. In 56.7% of the cases, there were coincidences of face and SCI forms, which could be a viable parameter in the selection of acrylic resin artificial tooth.

The pigmentation of indirect composite resins has been one of the most common reasons that lead the restorative treatment to failure. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of different solutions on color stability of indirect composite resins. Five brands of indirect composite resins were tested: Adoro, Resilab, Cristobal, Sinfony and Epricord. The samples were immerged in eleven solutions (n=10): common liquid foods (coke soft drink, red wine, coffee and orange juice), mounthrinses (Listerine, Oral-B, Colgate Plax and Periogard) and bleaching agents (carbamide peroxide 16%, 7.5% and hydrogen peroxide 38%) and artificial saliva (control group). The color was measured by a spectrophotometer before and after 7, 14 and 21 days of immersion in common liquid foods, after 12, 24, 36 and 60 hours of immersion in mounthrinses and after 7 and 14 days of immersion in bleaching agents. The Cristobal and Adoro resins showed highest values of ΔE statistically significant compared to the others resin brands. Adoro’s ΔE values changed significantly after the immersion process in red wine and coffee and also between periods measured. The resins Cristobal and Sinfony showed the highest values of ΔE after the immersion process in Listerine with difference statistically significant in comparison to control group. Besides, there was difference statistically significant of the ΔE values  for  Cristobal  after  immersion  in hydrogen peroxide 7,5% in comparison to control group. It can be conclude that all the solutions promoted color change on the indirect composite resins. However, ΔE values  are  whitin  the  values clinically acceptable.

With the advances of osseointegration principles, the use of implant-supported prosthesis has become a routine treatment option. The success of an implant is initially associated to the surgical technique, primary stability and absence of bacterial contamination on the implant site. Subsequently, the absence of mechanical trauma (overload) and peri-implantitis are sine qua non conditions to the longitudinal success of implant treatment. Therefore, the strict maintenance of oral hygiene is highly important to avoid biofilm accumulation around the implant and consequently to provide last-long implant-supported dentures. The clinician has the responsibility to supply a favorable prognosis to the patient so that the rehabilitation succeed. For this reason, during prosthesis fabrication the clinician should observe the design and emergency profile of the prosthesis, the peri-implant sulcus depth as well as the presence of motor or psychological impairment by the patient. Subjects with missing teeth and that will be submitted to the implant treatment should be motivated and adequate instructed regarding oral hygiene and its importance since the best option to obtain treatment longevity and consequently patient’s satisfaction is the prevention. Therefore, this study aimed to perform a literature review about the hygiene of implant-supported prosthesis.

The aim of his study was to review the current scientific literature in order to discuss the surgical, prosthetics and psychological/psychosocial aspects during the treatment planning of edentulous patients, when a total fixed prosthesis or overdenture is indicated. To identify studies to take part in this review, a search was conducted for the following databases: PubMed, Dentistry and Oral Sciences Source, Journals@Ovid, SpringerLink, Wiley Online Library, Nature (NPG), Oxford Journals. It was used as descriptors: total fixed prostheses and overdentures. Inclusion criteria were: clinical articles, clinical case reports, case series, literature reviews and systematic reviews that addressed the study and comparison of total fixed prostheses and overdentures for a surgical- prosthetic planning. Exclusion criteria were: laboratory and in vitro studies and those whose first language was not English or Portuguese. Of a total of 454 articles, after an analysis according to inclusion and exclusion criteria, 76 articles were selected. During an implantsupported prosthesis rehabilitation with dental in edentulous patients, the use of alternative procedures appear to be effective when compared to more invasive surgical techniques, and thus, the amount of dental implants possible to install associated with prosthetic issues such as lip support, smile line, quantity and quality of mucosa, phonetics, etc., will allow an appropriate treatment planning to each clinical case

Halitosis is the unpleasant odor of exhaust air through the mouth and lungs. There are over 50 causes, and approximately 90% of cases, is of oral origin. May have physiological origin (stress, breath of morning, fasting, and inappropriate diets), local reasons (bad oral hygiene, bacterial plaque retained on the tongue and/or tonsils, lower production of saliva, gum disease) or systemic reasons (diabetes, kidney or liver problems, constipation, etc.). In the Third Age, this problem tends to increase significantly. Thus, the aim of this study was to detect the presence of halitosis in the geriatric group attended in the dental clinic of UNIRP, identifying their incidence and principal causes. The sample consisted of 48 volunteer patients aged 60 years or older and included more than 90% of patients treated in this age group. It was performed a anamnesis and physical examination. The intra-oral halitosis was detected using a breath meter (halimeter). In the group studied, approximately 54.16% had halitosis, 84.61% of these were users of the prosthesis. The tongue coating was present in 80.76% of individuals with halitosis. After brushing the tongue, 88.46% of patients with halitosis have had the initial index oral malodor decreased. Based on the results of this study it was concluded that factors as dental prostheses and tongue coating are critical factors in causing halitosis.

Zirconia abutments are used to obtain satisfactory aesthetic results in implant fixed anterior prostheses when metal abutments promote a grayish mucosal discoloration of the peri-implant soft tissues. However, there is a lack of studies to confirm the clinical performance of the peri-implant soft tissues surrouding zirconia abutments. This study described a case report of a patient treated with implant fixed all-ceramic crown made out on zirconia abutment after 3 years of followup. A 47-year-old female patient was admitted to the dental clinic (Aracatuba Dental School) complaining about the fracture of her implant fixed single crown in the region of the left lateral incisor. The patient chose the replacement of the fractured prosthesis for an allceramic crown. After 3 years of follow-up it was observed that maintenance of the aesthetic results and the peri-implant soft tissue without any inflammation or gingival recessions. Within the limitations of a case report, it can be conclude that zirconia abutments is a effective rehabilitation treatment because it preserves the aesthetics and function through the maintenance of peri-implant tissues.
