Construção de instrumentos técnicos de astronomia para a divulgação científica: telescópio fotométrico de grande abertura e baixo custo

Although the popularization of astronomy in the last decade and the International Year of Astronomy, celebrated in 2009, there's a great lack in respect of quality instruments for astronomical disclosure. Thinking in this research about it, we intend to recuperate and elucidate a technique long forgotten: the metal mirror amateur telescope, once was done in the first reflecting telescopes. However, with the resources available today and given the high purity of the materials, our results were better than that obtained by the pioneers. We developed and built a large aperture telescope (250 mm diameter) and very bright (focal ratio = 4.0), versatile and portable. In our study was described step by step the process to fabricate the telescope. Through its first images captured of the Moon, we can illustrate its versatility both for use in outreach events and for use in amateur astronomy, because it is a primary focus capture system and can run registration of various astronomical events

Perfil de atividade e uso do recinto de Pinguim-de-Magalhães (Spheniscus magellanicus) em cativeiro

Os Pinguins-de-Magalhães (Spheniscus magellanicus) (Forster, 1781) são aves marinhas que se reproduzem em grandes colônias nas costas da Argentina, do Chile e nas Ilhas Malvinas. Quando animais desta espécie são mantidos em cativeiro, é frequente que deixem de exibir comportamentos típicos da espécie, tornando-se sedentários e apresentando baixo índice de reprodução. Nestas condições, por passarem muito tempo fora da água sustentando todo o peso do corpo sobre as patas apoiadas em piso firme, os pinguins podem desenvolver lesões nas patas denominadas pododermatites. Tendo em vista que o padrão temporal do comportamento é alterado por estressores e que o acompanhamento deste padrão pode contribuir para a determinação do bem estar animal, avaliamos neste estudo o padrão de atividade e de uso do recinto de três fêmeas e três machos residentes no Sabina Escola Parque do Conhecimento (Santo André, SP). Os animais foram observados por 2 a 3 dias em quatro períodos: janeiro, março, maio e julho de 2014. Foram realizadas seis varreduras sucessivas a cada 7 minutos nos seguintes intervalos de horários: 8h-8h50, 9h25-10h15, 10h50-11h40, 12h20-13h10, 13h40- 14h30 e 15h05-15h55. Em cada varredura foi registrado o estado comportamental (repouso, atividade ou não visível) e a área do recinto em que cada animal se encontrava (em quadrantes). Verificamos que os animais eram ativos na maior parte das observações visíveis: 73,4% das varreduras obtidas em janeiro, 65,8% em março, 89,0% em maio e 86,3% em julho. O coeficiente de atividade foi diferente entre os intervalos de horário: teste de Friedman em janeiro (Fr(3)=20,5; p=0,001), março (Fr(3)=19,9; p=0,001), maio (Fr(3)=15,4; p=0,01) e julho (Fr(3)=17,1; p=0,005); sendo que nos primeiros intervalos da manhã os animais eram mais ativos do que à tarde (post-hoc p<0,01). Correlações entre escores visuais e características produtivas em prova de ganho de peso de bovinos da raça Nelore Mocha

The objective was evaluate the phenotypic correlations among visual scores, performance traits and scrotal circumference of the polled Nelore cattle performance tests. Animals of the fifth, sixth, seventh official performance test in pasture were analysed. At the end of each test period the following measures were taken: adjusted weight to 550 days, gain weight, visual score (body structure; precocity and muscle) and scrotal circumference. The musculature, precocity and body structure showed significant positive correlations (P <0.01) with gain weight, adjusted average daily weight to 550 days, scrotal circumference and chest circumference. However, only hip height showed a significant positive correlation with muscularity. Therefore, in polled Nelore cattle, regards to performance test in pasture, the visual scores show positive correlation with the performance traits and scrotal circumference, showing that visual scores is important tool in the polled Nelore Cattle performance test.

A influência da prática de atividade regular na composição corporal de pacientes com osteoartrite

Introduction: Osteoarthritis, osteoarthrosis or degenerative joint disease characterized by progressive loss of articular cartilage, pain, changes in subchondral bone, osteophyte formation and proliferation. Age, bone mineral density, joint instability, excess weight among others, are risk factors. Methods: To check the influence os physical exercise in patients with the disease were evaluated 39 patients over 50 years, both genders, with clinical and / or radiographic osteoarthritis were divided into experimental group (EG) and control group (CG). EG performed regular physical activity (aerobics) three times a week for four months, while CG was submitted to physical therapy painkiller in the same period. We analyzed demographics, BMI, basal metabolic rate and percentage of fat mass. Results: The results showed that regular physical activity reduced the body fat, but because of their characteristics and low-impact aerobics was not observed consistent benefits in muscle component. However, compared with the CG demonstrated a positive impact on other parameters of body composition.

Diferenças no desenvolvimento de meninos e meninas em condição de risco

This study aimed to evaluate the development of infants aged between 30 and 59 days, who presented some kind of risk factor threatening their development. Participated in the project 82 children, being 42 boys and 40 girls, presenting the following risk conditions: low birth weight, preterm birth or children of adolescent mothers. The protocol "Stimulation for kids" from "The Operationalized Portage Inventory" was administered. The girls presented a better performance in all conditions, however, no significant differences between genders were observed among the adolescent mothers' children. These results are consistent with those described in the literature and they indicate that the male population is more vulnerable to developmental damage. Public policies regarding early intervention to minimize the likelihood of future cognitive difficulties and consequently its impact in such population are essential.

As atividades de demonstração e a teoria de Vigotski: um motor elétrico de fácil construção e de baixo custo

The experimental demonstration is one of the traditional activities used in the ambit of the Science teaching and of the scientific divulgation. However, this activity has not been fully explored yet in the classroom, because teachers have faced considerable difficulties due to the lack of demonstration equipment. In this work we present the explanation of an easy and low-cost assembly of an electric motor, to be used in Physics classes in High School. In addition, we employed Vigotski’s theory to guide this experimental activity in the classroom.
