One of the major constraints to sustainable of the tillage is the rapid decomposition of dry the matter. One of the mechanisms known to facilitate this process is the interference in pathways of polymers of lignin from tests of application of low doses of herbicide based on the relation that higher the content of the lignin greater the resistance to degradation. With this purpose, the herbicide Verdict * R (haloxyfop-methyl) was used to verify the effect of low doses at the height of the plants, productivity of dry matter and in the metabolism of the lignin in plants of black oat. Preliminary tests in the greenhouse were realized for adjustments to the best low doses to be applied in the definitive experiment in the production area. The results obtained were 24% of increase in productivity in the experiments conducted in greenhouse, from the application of 3.125g of the active ingredient of the haloxyfop-methyl per hectare, in this subdose no changes was observed in growth and content of lignin in plants of black oat. In the field, the concentration of 2.5g i. a. ha-1 of haloxyfop-methyl decreased in 9% the lignification rate without interfering with the height and productivity of the plants, this being favorable to the degradation rate of stubble tillage on outcome

The no-tillage system is an important technique for maintaining and restoring the productive capacity of conventionally managed soils and degraded areas. The aim of this study was to evaluate the production of soy and maize grown on the straw of five cover crops and on spontaneous vegetation. The experiments were carried out in Votuporanga, in the state of Sao Paulo and in Selviria, in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, in March 2008, after conventional soil preparation. The experimental design was of randomised blocks with four replications, using the following cover crops in different amounts of seed per hectare, to make up the treatments: Sorghum bicolor - 6, 7 and 8 kg ha(-1); Pennisetum americanum - 10, 15 and 20 kg ha(-1); Sorghum sudanense - 12, 15 and 18 kg ha(-1); S. bicolor and S. sudanense hybrid - 8, 9 and 10 kg ha(-1); and Urochloa ruziziensis - 8, 12 and 16 kg ha(-1). A control treatment with spontaneous vegetation was also used. After management of the cover crops, soy was planted in the first year of the study, and maize sown in the second, both under a no-tillage system. The dry matter accumulated by the different cover crops, and the agronomic characteristics of the soy and maize were all evaluated. It was concluded that the different cover plants proved to be good options for preceding the soy crop in Votuporanga, SP and the maize in Selviria, MS, and that the different amounts of seed used for each cover crop resulted in differences in relation to the agronomic characteristics of the crops of soy and maize.

Technologies that increase crop yields are possible when providing profitability to the producer. The objective of this study was to evaluate production costs and profitability of maize in production systems in Cerrado. The study was conducted in Selviria (Mato Grosso do Sul State), Brazil, in the years 2009/10 and 2010/11. The experiment was arranged in randomized blocks with four replications in factorial and mixed with tracks. We established 36 treatments, three green manures (Pennisetum glaucum, Crotalaria juncea and intercropping Pennisetum glaucum + Crotalaria juncea), three soil management practices (no-tillage system, "heavy disking" + "levelling disking" and "chisel plow" + "levelling disking") and four doses of N (0, 60, 90 and 120 kg ha(-1)). For economic analysis were estimated operational cost, the gross revenue obtained by the product of the productivity of the treatments and the value of corn (R$ 0,417 kg or R$ 25,00 sc(-1)) and the ratio revenue / cost of treatment. Whereas higher values (revenue/cost > 1) and lower (revenue/cost ratio < 1) as a parameter in the analysis of profitability, it can be concluded that corn under no-tillage had the highest profitability in succession to Pennisetum glaucum growing profitability with increasing N rates, in succession to Crotalaria juncea and in the absence of nitrogen application on the coverage achieved higher profitability compared to other treatments and in succession to the consortium Pennisetum glaucum + Crotalaria juncea doses of N was between 50 and 55 kg ha(-1) offer greater profitability to the cultivation of corn.
