The aim of this work was to evaluate the types of resistance of soybean genotypes to the attack of Spodoptera cosmioides (Walker, 1858), under laboratory conditions. Plants of the soybean genotypes, IAC 100, Dowling, PI 227687, PI 274454, BR 16, IGRA RA 626 RR, PI 227682, BRSGO 8360, IGRA RA 516 RR e P 98Y11 RR, were cultivated in vases and placed in a greenhouse in order to have their leaves used afterwards in free-choice and no-choice no-preference for feeding tests and evaluation of the biological parameters of S. cosmioides fed on the genotypes. For free-choice no preference for feeding test, 10 leaf discs were prepared and placed in Petri dishes equidistantly among themselves, and then two recently-hatched caterpillar per genotype were release in the center of the plate. The same test was performed for third instar larvae, so that one caterpillar per genotype was used. In non-choice test, only one genotype was used in each Petri dish, where two recently-hatched or one third instar caterpillars were released, respectively. For both tests, the attractiveness was assessed at 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, 30, 60, 120, 360, 720 and 1440 minutes after the release of the insects. In addition, the leaf area consumed was evaluated. Randomized blocks design and completely randomized design were used for free-choice and non-choice tests, respectively, with 10 replications. In biology test, recently-hatched larvae were transferred to Petri dishes with leaves of the genotypes, evaluating the period of larvae, pupae and overall (larvae + pupae), viability of larvae, pupae and overall, weight of 12 days-old larvae and 24 hours-old pupae and longevity of the adults. Completely randomized design was used for this test, with 30 replications. The ractopamine is a β-adrenergic agonist used as a divider of energy in diets for finishing pigs. However, research shows that this additive may effect on welfare and meat quality. In this context, the aim was to evaluate the influence in three levels of inclusion of ractopamine (0, 5 and 10ppm) in commercial pigs diet (castrated, males and females, n = 340) for 28 days pre-slaughter on the welfare and meat quality. The wellbeing was assessed by the behavior of animals, number of skin damages, carcass damages and physiological stress (lactate, cortisol and creatinine phosphokinase). The evaluation of meat quality was performed by analyzing pH, color, drip and cooking loss, shear force and marbling of the longissimus dorsi muscle of 90 selected pigs. There was no influence of treatments on the behavior, the total number of skin damages and carcass damages or concentration of cortisol and lactate. However, levels of the enzyme creatine phosphokinase (CPK) increased in pigs supplemented with ractopamine. This shows that, somehow, this additive led to physiological changes in animals that consumed it. PH and drip loss did not change by the addition of ractopamine in the diet. In contrast, the Longissimus dorsi of pigs that received ractopamine presented less intense red color and no difference was found in L* and b*. The inclusion of ractopamine in the diet reduced the degree of marbling, cooking loss and tenderness of the muscle. Supplementation did not lead to behavioral change, increased incidence of injury, plasma cortisol and lactate and minimal impact on meat quality. However, there was evidence that the animals fed the additive suffered physiological changes

The wood of the gender Eucalyptus occupies a prominence place in relation to other cellulose sources, due to its chemical composition, its low cost, abundance and availability. The dissolving pulp obtaining occurs basically starting from three stages: prehydrolysis of the wood following by cooking and finally by the bleaching process. In the dissolving pulp production is necessary a pretreatment stage for the hemicelluloses removal. Among the chemical cooking processes, the Kraft process is the most used for cellulosic pulps production starting from eucalyptus, in the additive presence or not. The anthraquinone uses in the pulping process has as main purposes increasing the delignification rate as well as protecting the pulp regarding the degradation of the polysaccharide chains. The ECF bleaching process consists of the purification of the pulp through bleaching agents, being excepted the elementary chlorine. The dissolving pulp is a pulp of high a-cellulose content and purity destined to the cellulose derivatives production as carboxymethyl cellulose, nitrocellulose and microcrystalline cellulose. The production of a certain product, as well as its final application, is determined by the chemical properties of the pulp. The present work had as purpose producing cellulosic pulp with kappa number around 9 destined to the production of dissolving pulp in way to evaluate the use of the anthraquinone (AQ) in the Kraft process according to the chemical properties of the obtained pulps. It has been still intended developing an effective technology of bleaching for the high purity and quality dissolving pulp production. The prehydrolysis was accomplished in laboratory rotational autoclave for 30 minutes at 170ºC in the water:wood rate 3,5:1 (L:kg). The increasing application of structural composites in the aerospace industry is mainly due to its low specific weight coupled with its excellent mechanical properties when in service. As a result of climatic variations that pass the aircraft is of paramount importance to study the influence of weathering on this type of material when subjected to such changes. The purpose of this work is to evaluate the mechanical behavior of specimens of kevlar fiber /epoxy matrix composites, by dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMA) and interlaminar shear strength tests (ILSS), after passing through three environmental conditioning: saline fog, hygrothermal and ultraviolet radiation. From the results, we concluded that the laminate was molded supplied homogeneously, not presenting problems such as porosity, delaminations or cracks inside. After a period of 625 hours of exposure to hygrothermal conditioning, we observed a 1,2% maximum of absorption of moisture. Samples subjected to the conditioning by UV irradiation (600 hours) and salt spray showed a reduction of about 24,30% and 32,30%, respectively, on the shear strength (ILSS). In DMA analysis is not observed significant changes on the glass transition temperature. However, when considering the storage modulus of the samples conditioned by UV radiation (1200 hours), salt spray and hygrothermal conditioning there is an increase of 5,34% , 7,19% and 5,57% respectively

Among the fruit species of the Brazilian Cerrado, the pequi is much popular in regions where it is extracted. Often it used in typical dishes, on the industry medicinal, cosmetic and handmade, also it studied its potential to produce fuel. Thus, this article sought to ponder about the disclosure of this fruit in the press, by means of the search system's site Folha de S. Paulo and applying content analysis, proposed by Bardin, beyond bibliography and documentary research. The justification for this research is that the pequi is a fruit of great importance in the economy and sustainable, yet little is spoken about it in the mainstream media. The result is that, by the analysis, little is said about the pequi media and its focus, is principally, cultural journalism, in culinary.

The noteworthy of this study is to predict seven quality parameters for beef samples using time-domain nuclear magnetic resonance (TD-NMR) relaxometry data and multivariate models. Samples from 61 Bonsmara heifers were separated into five groups based on genetic (breeding composition) and feed system (grain and grass feed). Seven sample parameters were analyzed by reference methods; among them, three sensorial parameters, flavor, juiciness and tenderness and four physicochemical parameters, cooking loss, fat and moisture content and instrumental tenderness using Warner Bratzler shear force (WBSF). The raw beef samples of the same animals were analyzed by TD-NMR relaxometry using Carr-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill (CPMG) and Continuous Wave-Free Precession (CWFP) sequences. Regression models computed by partial least squares (PLS) chemometric technique using CPMG and CWFP data and the results of the classical analysis were constructed. The results allowed for the prediction of aforementioned seven properties. The predictive ability of the method was evaluated using the root mean square error (RMSE) for the calibration (RMSEC) and validation (RMSEP) data sets. The reference and predicted values showed no significant differences at a 95% confidence level.

This study aimed to investigate the antitumor and cytotoxicity activities of Kielmeyera coriacea and Pyrostegia venusta extracts. Therefore, the hydroalcoholic extracts of P. venusta flowers and K. coriacea leaves were prepared. The extracts were evaporated and the dry extracts were diluted at concentrations of 1.0, 0.1, 0.01 and 0.001 mg/ml for carrying out the bioassays. Artemia salina eggs were incubated in saline solution at 28°C for 24 h. The larvae were treated with different extracts concentrations and the mortality was evaluated after 24 and 48 h. Five discs of potato were placed in Petri dishes and 50 μl of inoculum of Agrobacterium tumefaciens were added to it at 28°C for 24 h incubation. So, 50 μl of the extracts in different concentrations were added. Positive and negative controls were made. The P. venusta and K. coriacea extracts did not show statistically significant acute toxicity. K. coriacea extract showed (mean% of tumor ± standard deviation) 15.30 ± 3.24, 6.34 ± 3.82, 7.57 ± 2.92 and 5.77 ± 2.85 and P. venusta showed 25.82 ± 5.15, 38.40 ± 8.28, 15.75 ± 4.44 and 13.38 ± 7.92, with their concentrations for the antitumor bioassay, and the positive control showed 25.80 ± 6.14. According to the obtained results it was established that the K. coriacea and P. venusta extracts showed antitumor activity but did not show significant cytotoxic activity in A. salina test.
