The analysis of white latex paint is a problem for forensic laboratories because of difficulty in differentiation between samples. Current methods provide limited information that is not suitable for discrimination. Elemental analysis of white latex paints has resulted in 99% discriminating power when using LA-ICP-MS; however, mass spectrometers can be prohibitively expensive and require a skilled operator. A quick, inexpensive, effective method is needed for the differentiation of white latex paints. In this study, LIBS is used to analyze 24 white latex paint samples. LIBS is fast, easy to operate, and has a low cost. Results show that 98.1% of variation can be accounted for via principle component analysis, while Tukey pairwise comparisons differentiated 95.6% with potassium as the elemental ratio, showing that the discrimination capabilities of LIBS are comparable to those of LA-ICP-MS. Due to the many advantages of LIBS, this instrument should be considered a necessity for forensic laboratories.

Natural rubber latex, an aqueous colloidal dispersion of polyisoprene is widely used in production of gloves, catherers, rubber bands etc. The natural rubber latex content present in products such as gloves causes allergic problems. Of the different types of allergies reported, latex is known to produce Type I and Type IV allergies. Type I is called immediate hypersensitivity and type IV is called delayed hypersensitivity. It has been reported that some of the proteins present in the latex are mainly responsible for the allergic reactions type I. Significant reduction in the allergic response (type I) of natural rubber latex can be achieved by the reduction in its protein content, however out of the total proteins present in the latex or latex film only a fraction is extractable. The major techniques employed to reduce protein content of latex include leaching, autoclaving, chlorination, use of proteolytic enzymes and use of non ionic surfactants. Sulphur vulcanization of dipped products is responsible for Type IV allergy. N-nitrosamine, a carcinogenic substance is produced as a result of sulphur vulcanization. Radiation vulcanization can be used as an alternative for sulphur vulcanization. The current research deals with techniques to reduce the allergy associated with latex products. To reduce the type I allergy, low protein latex is developed using polyethylene glycol, a non- ionic surfactant. The present study employs radiation vulcanization to eliminate type IV allergy. The effect of different cure systems and fillers on the properties of low protein latex is also investigated as a part of the study.

La chercheuse a consulté plusieurs écrits afin de définir l’insertion professionnelle et de soulever les principales difficultés des enseignants novices. Constatant que la gestion de classe est leur plus grande difficulté en début de carrière, elle a approfondi ses recherches sur ce concept en le définissant et le décrivant plus explicitement possible. Puisqu’il semble y avoir peu d’ouvrages pédagogiques fournissant des outils pratiques et complets pour les premiers jours avant et après la rentrée scolaire, la pertinence d’une recherche développement est justifiée. En plus de répondre aux besoins des enseignants novices du 2e cycle du primaire en début d’année scolaire et de s’appuyer rigoureusement sur le concept à la base de cette recherche, soit la gestion de classe, le guide a aussi été évalué par trois personnes expertes : Mme Fanny Dessain, enseignante en insertion professionnelle, Mme Odile Morin, enseignante au 2e cycle du primaire ainsi que Mme Nathalie Poulin, psychoéducatrice et formatrice à la CSDM (Commission scolaire de Montréal) pour les enseignants novices. À la suite de la lecture de leurs commentaires, des améliorations ont été apportées au guide pour lui procurer encore plus de rigueur et pour qu’il soit le plus près possible de la réalité des milieux scolaires actuels.

L'objet d'étude de cette recherche était l'enseignement de la grammaire au 2e cycle du primaire. Les chercheuses ont constaté un écart considérable du nombre de notions prescrites par le Programme de formation de l'école québécoise (2001) entre la 2e année du 1 er cycle et la 1 re année du 2e cycle. De plus, dans les manuels scolaires du 2e cycle, une grande majorité des nouveaux savoirs essentiels était abordée dans ceux de la 1re année de ce cycle. L'année suivante, peu de nouvelles notions sont travaillées. Ce qui explique que plusieurs élèves éprouvent des difficultés d'apprentissage en grammaire dès le début du 2e cycle. Afin d'améliorer cette situation, les notions de grammaire pourraient être travaillées différemment de ce que proposent les manuels puisque le Programme de formation (2001) est conçu sur deux ans. L'objectif des chercheuses était donc de bien outiller les enseignants pour travailler la grammaire du 2e cycle d'une façon différente. Pour ce faire, la création d'un jeu éducatif qui tient compte de la différenciation pour l'enseignement de la grammaire au 2e cycle pouvait être un bon outil.

Cette recherche s'inscrit dans un cadre théorique de la didactique de l'écriture et des sciences cognitives. Elle présente la mise à l'essai d'un dispositif multimédia pour soutenir la révision de textes. Cette étude évalue les avantages et les limites du commentaire oral formulé par l'enseignant et formaté en MP3, qui vise à communiquer à l'élève du 2e cycle du primaire une rétroaction portant sur la révision qu'il a lui-même réalisé au regard de son texte.

[…] Après avoir examiné ce que le programme de français du MÉQ propose sur la façon d'enseigner la lecture, il est possible d'observer les disparités entre celui-ci et l'état actuel de la recherche quant au meilleur moyen d'aider l'élève dans sa compréhension d'un texte informatif. En effet, à l'intérieur même du nouveau programme de français de 1994, aucune mention n'est faite en ce qui concerne l'apprentissage des structures de textes au primaire, et ce malgré les effets positifs sur la compréhension soulevés par de nombreuses recherches. Une des raisons pouvant expliquer ce fait vient du manque de matériel concret à la portée des enseignantes et des enseignants et pouvant constituer une base à cet enseignement. Giasson (1990) a recensé, parmi différentes recherches, un certain nombre de représentations graphiques utilisées pour l'enseignement des structures de textes. Pour apprécier la pertinence de ce matériel, il sera important de comprendre l'origine de ces représentations graphiques et la façon dont ce type de représentations peut faciliter l'acquisition de connaissances. L'essentiel du problème abordé à l'intérieur de ce projet de recherche touche donc un aspect précis de la lecture. En effet, la compréhension en lecture par l'enseignement de l'organisation du texte et l'utilisation de représentations graphiques constituent le point central de la présente recherche. L'objectif général vise donc à voir dans quelle mesure la compréhension de texte peut être favorisée si un enseignement des structures de texte à l'aide de représentations graphiques est entrepris. Le présent document se compose de cinq chapitres. Le premier chapitre propose une recension des écrits des différents thèmes permettant de poser le problème. Le deuxième chapitre énonce la problématique ainsi que les hypothèses de recherche. Le troisième chapitre, quant à lui, décrit la méthodologie utilisée dans la phase expérimentale de la recherche. Le quatrième chapitre fait l'analyse et l'interprétation des résultats et finalement le cinquième et dernier chapitre propose la conclusion et les implications des résultats.

Nos profissionais de saúde a alergia ao látex representa um importante problema de saúde ocupacional. Em contexto hospitalar, a principal fonte de exposição alergénica é a utilização de luvas látex empoadas e a inalação dos bioaerossóis que se formam pela manipulação das mesmas. Mediante consentimento informado, os participantes preencheram um inquérito de resposta fechada e realizaram os testes cutâneos (TC). Aqueles que apresentaram reacção foram encaminhados para a consulta de imunoalergologia e realizaram TC para alimentos, doseamentos séricos de imunoglobulinas (lgE total e específica). Foram incluídos no estudo 44 dos 48 participantes (a=0.1). A sensibilidade ao látex foi posta em evidência em 15 dos elementos da amostra, seis dos quais reagem ao extracto de látex utilizado nos TC. A alergia ao látex foi diagnosticada em duas pessoas. A aplicação de questionários na avaliação sensibilização ocupacional ao látex pode vir a constituir ferramenta válida de auscultação deste problema nas instituições prestadoras de cuidados de saúde. ABSTRACT: Latex allergy is a major occupational disease among health care workers. ln hospitals, the main source of allergen exposure is the powdered latex gloves latex and the inhalation of the aerosols formed by its direct manipulation. By means of informed assent, the participants filled an inquiry and carried out the SPT. Those with cutaneous reaction to the latex extract went to an immunoallergology appointment. SPT for fruit and pollen with cross reactivity to latex allergens where performed, and blood levels of total and specific lgE where determined. The study group included 44 of the 48 participants (a=0.1). Fifteen elements showed latex sensitization and six of them had cutaneous reaction to the latex extract used in the SPT. Latex allergy was found in two health care professionals. Questionnaires may provide a reliability tool to access the sensitization due to natural rubber products and the symptoms more commonly associated with it, in health care facilities.

A proper cast is essential for a successful rehabilitation with implant prostheses, in order to produce better structures and induce less strain on the implants. The aim of this study was to evaluate the precision of four different mold filling techniques and verify an accurate methodology to evaluate these techniques. A total of 40 casts were obtained from a metallic matrix simulating three unit implant-retained prostheses. The molds were filled using four different techniques in four groups (n = 10): Group 1 - Single-portion filling technique; Group 2 - Two-step filling technique; Group 3 - Latex cylinder technique; Group 4 - Joining the implant analogs previously to the mold filling. A titanium framework was obtained and used as a reference to evaluate the marginal misfit and tension forces in each cast. Vertical misfit was measured with an optical microscope with an increase of 120 times following the single-screw test protocol. Strain was quantified using strain gauges. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA (Tukey's test) (α =0.05). The correlation between strain and vertical misfit was evaluated by Pearson test. The misfit values did not present statistical difference (P = 0.979), while the strain results showed statistical difference between Groups 3 and 4 (P = 0.027). The splinting technique was considered to be as efficient as the conventional technique. The strain gauge methodology was accurate for strain measurements and cast distortion evaluation. There was no correlation between strain and marginal misfit.

A epidemiologia da fluorose dentária resulta de inquéritos realizados recentemente, em decorrência da melhor compreensão de aspectos metabólicos dos fluoretos no organismo humano e de preocupações no âmbito da saúde coletiva. Objetiva-se apresentar os estudos realizados sobre a fluorose entre 1993 e 2006. O período 1993-2004 demarca o intervalo entre a 2ªe a 3ª Conferência Nacional de Saúde Bucal. Em 2005-2006, a busca de dados primários apresentados em reuniões científicas confirmou os achados existentes na literatura, mostrando que a agenda científica brasileira não foi substancialmente influenciada pelas discussões travadas durante a 3ª Conferência. A maioria dos estudos concentra-se em áreas urbanas e a predominância no Brasil dos graus "muito leve" e "leve" de fluorose mostra não haver comprometimentos de ordem funcional. A baixa percepção da fluorose pela população, aliada à sua baixa prevalência, evoca o necessário debate sobre as questões de saúde coletiva no país. Visto que a produção científica nacional constitui uma importante fonte de conhecimentos para subsidiar a elaboração de políticas públicas para o setor da saúde, os sucessivos e pontuais estudos analisados mostram que, no que diz respeito à fluorose, o diagnóstico epidemiológico reafirma a necessidade, a importância e a segurança da fluoretação das águas de abastecimento público como medida de saúde coletiva.

Myelomeningocele (MMC) is a congenital malformation of the neural tube that occurs in the first weeks of pregnancy. This malformation refers to the caudal non-closure of the neural tube and neural tissue exposure, which lead to neurological problems, such as hydrocephalus, motor disability, genitourinary tract and skeletal abnormalities and mental retardation. Patients with MMC have an acknowledged predisposition to latex allergy and are usually at a high caries risk and activity due to poor oral hygiene, fermentable carbon hydrate-rich diet and prolonged use of sugar-containing medications. This paper addresses the common oral findings in pediatric patients with MMC, discusses the strategies and precautions to deal with these individuals and reports the dental care to a young child diagnosed with this condition.

This article describes the synthesis of the new (2Z)-2-(4-methoxybenzylidene)-6-nitro-4H -benzo[1,4]thiazin-3-one, (2Z)-2-(4-methoxybenzylidene)-4-methyl-6-nitro-4H-benzo[1,4]thiazin-3-one, (2Z)-6-amino-2-(4-methoxybenzylidene)-4H -benzo[1,4]thiazin-3-one, (2Z)-6-butylamino-2-(4-methoxybenzylidene)-4-methyl-4H-benzo[1,4]-thiazin-3-one and (2E)-N-alkyl-N-(2-hydroxy-5-nitrophenyl)-3-phenylacrylamides and the spectroscopic data. The arylidenebenzothiazine compounds were prepared using the Knoevenagel condensation with substituted benzaldehydes in the presence of sodium methoxide in DMF. The presence of a nitro substituent in the 4-position, water and a slightly acid reaction medium in this condensation caused the rupture of the benzothiazine ring and subsequent formation of the phenylacrylamide compounds. A crystallographic data was presented for (2E)-3-(4-bromophenyl)-N-dodecyl-N -(2-hydroxy-5-nitrophenyl) acrylamide.
