The purpose of this work was the inlay’s characterization from the water supply networks of Rio Claro-SP city; as well analyze the influence of network’s aging in the actual system. To do this, some samples of inlays were collected and made chemistry analysis and X-Ray Diffraction Spectrometry. The history of the source water quality was also analyzed, to make possible to known the origins of the inlays. To evaluate the performance of the network, some different scenarios have been simulated, varying the resistance coefficient of the water supply networks of Rio Claro-SP. The characterization results showed that there are basically oxide and hydroxide of iron (magnetite and goethite) and quartz in the inlays, which are materials of high hardness. The hydraulic simulations indicated that the simulated scenarios had a variation of ~2000% in terms of loss of energy

A investigação de plantas medicinais é indispensável na busca de novas substâncias com potencial atividade ansiolítica e antidepressiva, visto que a ansiedade e depressão estão entre os distúrbios do sistema nervoso central (SNC) mais relevantes dentre os problemas de saúde mundial. Tais plantas são fontes de óleos essenciais (OE) que frequentemente são utilizados na aromaterapia, pois fornecem substâncias voláteis capazes de curar e prevenir doenças por meio da inalação. Esta prática já se mostrou efetiva sobre o SNC, trazendo benefícios terapêuticos a pacientes que não respondiam bem aos tratamentos convencionais. Uma espécie vegetal cujo OE possui atividade sobre o SNC é o Citrus aurantium L. (laranja amarga), espécie do gênero que mostrou atividade ansiolítica quando utilizado na aromatização de ambiente na sala de espera de um consultório dentário. Aqui avaliamos o potencial efeito ansiolítico e antidepressivo do OE de Citrus aurantium L por via inalatória em camundongos, por meio da resposta comportamental em modelos experimentais de ansiedade, o Labirinto em Cruz Elevado, e de depressão, o Teste do Nado Forçado. Com esta avaliação, o OE não foi efetivo por via inalatória em nenhuma das concentrações testadas (0,5%, 1,0% e 2,5%), tanto para ansiedade quanto para depressão. No entanto, este resultado não exclui a possibilidade de obtenção de tais efeitos se alterada a concentração de OE

O processo de envelhecimento origina uma série de alterações na pele, dentre elas as o estresse oxidativo e as discromias. O ácido kójico tem a capacidade de atuar no tratamento do envelhecimento cutâneo em virtude de sua atividade ferro-quelante e de promover a despigmentação da pele devido inibir a tirosinase, impedindo a formação da melanina. Sistemas de liberação controlada de substâncias ativas, como os sistemas líquido-cristalinos, tem a propriedade de modular a permeação cutânea de fármacos, além de melhorar a sua ação. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo desenvolver e caracterizar um sistema líquido cristalino constituído por água e isonomanoato de cetoestearila (óleo), e estabilizado com o tensoativo álcool cetílico etoxilado e propoxilado contendo ácido kójico, avaliando sua permeação cutânea in vitro. A partir da construção de um diagrama de fases, foram selecionadas três formulações caracterizadas microscopicamente como CLs de fase hexagonal, denominada de A (35% O, 50 % T e 15% A), B (30% O, 50 % T e 20% A) e C (20% O, 50% T e 30% A), para prosseguir com o estudo, que consistiu na incorporação do ácido kójico na concentração de 2% e a realização dos ensaios de textura, bioadesão, reologia e de permeação e retenção cutânea in vitro. O ensaio de textura demonstrou que a formulação B com valores intermediários de água e fase oleosa apresentou valores intermediários de dureza, compressibilidade e adesividade, ideais para aplicação tópica. O ensaio de bioadesão mostrou que com o acréscimo de água na fórmula a força bioadesiva aumentou, o que pode melhorar a fixação do produto na pele do usuário. O ensaio reológico evidenciou que há aumento da viscosidade com acréscimo de água na formulação e que os sistemas analisados tratavam-se de fluidos pseudoplásticos com tixotropia tempo dependente... A zidovudina (AZT) é um antirretroviral que apresenta baixa biodisponibilidade devido seu intenso metabolismo pré2sistêmico. A via nasal tem sido estudada como alternativa para evitar este efeito, mas possui limitações, como os mecanismos de depuração mucociliar, que podem ser minimizadas através do desenvolvimento de sistemas de liberação mucoadesivos. O presente estudo tem por objetivo caracterizar sistemas tensoativos visando o desenvolvimento de uma formulação mucoadesiva para potencial administração nasal de AZT. Para isso, foi utilizada uma microemulsão (ME) composta por álcool cetílico etoxilado 20 OE e propoxilado 5 OP (PRO), ácido oleico (AO) e água. Foi testada a incorporação de polímeros mucoadesivos – policarbofil (PF), carbopol 971 (C971), 974 (C974) e quitosana (QS) na ME. Os sistemas foram caracterizados por microscopia de luz polarizada (MLP), quantificação do AZT, reologia de fluxo e oscilatória, análise do perfil de textura (TPA) e obtenção da força de mucoadesão. Os resultados mostraram que foi possível incorporar 0,1 % (p/v) dos polímeros e os sistemas incorporaram mais AZT do que a solução aquosa. Os sistemas apresentam fluxo newtoniano. Quando misturados ao muco artificial (MA), os sistemas tiveram G’ aumentado e houve mudança da ME para fase hexagonal. No teste TPA, a dureza da ME contendo PF foi a maior. Pode2se concluir que é possível obter uma formulação precursora de matriz com características de textura e reologia favoráveis à aplicação nasal. Thin polymeric films deposited by plasma are very atractive for many industrial and scientific applications, in areas such as electronics, mechanics, coatings, biomaterials, among others, due to its favorable properties such as good adhesion to the substrate, high crosslinking, nanomectric thickness, homogeneity, etc. In this work, thin films were deposited by plasma immersion ion implantation and deposition technique from a hexamethyldisilazane/argon mixture at different proportions. These films were subjected to several characterizations, such as, contact angle, which presented values near to 100 degrees, surface energy, with values near to 31 mJ/m2, hardness with values between 0.7 and 2.6 GPa, thickness from 100 to 200 nm, refractive index from 1.56 to 1.64, molecular structure presenting the following functional groups in the infrared spectra region: CHx from 2960 to 2900 cm-1; Si-H around 2130 cm-1; CH3 in Si-(CH3)x around 1410 cm-1; CH3 in Si-(CH3)x in 1260 cm-1; N-H around 1180 cm-1; CH2 in Si-CH2-Si bonds around 1025 cm-1; Si-O in Si-O-Si from 1020 to 1100 cm-1; Si-N in Si-H-Si bonds around 940 cm-1; CH3 in Si-(CH3)3 in 850 cm-1; Si-C bonds in Si-(CH3)2 around 800 cm-1; and Si-H in 680 cm-1 . From these characterizations, it was possible to conclude that the concentration of argon or hexamethyldisilazane in the mixture changed the resulting polymer

The use of ceramic materials in ballistic armor is considerable. Such materials can be very harder and lighter than metallic materials commonly used and it presents advantages to replace metallic materials when necessary toughness can be achieved. However, as SiC and Al2O3 ceramic, traditionally used for shielding, still have high manufacturing cost or low density do not have enough to shield applications such as aircraft. An alternative is the glass-ceramics, ceramics obtained by controlled crystallization of glasses, whose properties can be adjusted by choosing the chemical composition of glass, heat treatment of crystallization and special treatments such as ion exchange on the surface, resulting in increased mechanical strength . The objective of this project is to study the kinetics of crystallization of a glass composition based on cordierite (2MgO.2Al2O3.5SiO2), low density and high hardness, for the manufacture of glass-ceramics for ballistic tests. Shown in this report are results of heat treatment of crystallization and characterization by thermal analysis (DSC) glass obtained previously, indicating uneven distribution of crystals, and drying, weighing, mixing of raw materials and a new fusion of glass, the same composition

Nas últimas décadas tem ocorrido um aumento expressivo da incidência de doenças fúngicas. Porém, o tratamento destas infecções pode não ser efetivo, pois os fármacos antifúngicos disponíveis causam sérios efeitos adversos, recorrência ou resistência. Algumas doenças fúngicas causam lesões cutâneas e o medicamento, geralmente administrado por via oral, dificulta a chegada do fármaco no local de ação. Adicionalmente, muitos antifúngicos tópicos não são eficazes, pois o tempo de residência no local de ação é curto e a solubilidade do fármaco nos sistemas é baixa. Uma alternativa muito explorada nos anos recentes é o desenvolvimento de sistemas de liberação de fármacos, e as microemulsões (ME) e os cristais líquidos (CL) mostraram-se promissores, pois podem aumentar o tempo de residência no local de aplicação e a solubilidade de fármacos pouco solúveis em água, como ocorre com o fluconazol (F) e o itraconazol (I). Sistemas nanoestruturados foram desenvolvidos empregando o ácido oleico (AO), álcool cetílico etoxilado 20 OE e propoxilado 5 OP (PROC) e água. Estes sistemas foram caracterizados por microscopia de luz polarizada (MLP), comportamento reológico, análise do perfil de textura (TPA), bioadesão e capacidade de incorporação dos fármacos pelos sistemas. A MLP foi utilizada na caracterização dos sistemas quanto a isotropia e anisotropia, diferenciando as ME dos CL. O comportamento reológico das ME foi Newtoniano e viscoso, e dos CL foi pseudoplástico e elástico e a temperatura não influenciou o comportamento reológico dos sistemas. As propriedades mecânicas das formulações, como dureza, compressibilidade e adesividade, foram avaliadas utilizando um analisador de textura no modo TPA. Os CL de fase hexagonal são os mais bioadesivos. As quantidades incorporadas dos fármacos nos sistemas aumentaram, principalmente comparando-se com... A large part of hydraulic hoses is produced on a mandrel. The mandrel has longer length and circular profile being produced by extrusion of polyamide polymer, which in this case is imported, then the process is depending on the import process, which entails high shipping costs and fees. This work studies the production of recycled mandrel, using the mandrel that is out of dimensional to produce hoses. After the production of recycled mandrel mechanical tensile and hardness were performed both in the natural and recycled mandrel to compare them. It was observed that recycled mandrel presents the tensile properties and hardness superior to natural mandrel. Thus, this work will directly impact the company`s business ultimately reducing costs, reducing waste and reducing environmental impacts

Since the beginning of the railway industry until today, rail wheels are important components to the good working of a railway. For being a critical security item, design and maintenance are done with extremely care to avoid failures. Despite de fact of railway components be projected to support a big number of cyclic solicitation during its life, some accidents still occur. These accidents, despite the low frequency, always have great consequences, drawing in great financial, material, and people losses. Nowadays, railway component failure is relatively low, because it’s been projected to work below the materials Fatigue Resistance Limit, however, with the growing demand of faster trains and higher load for each axle, the occurrence probability is even bigger. This work includes a comparative study of two fabrication processes (casting and forging) applied in the production of rail wheels where it was measured the mechanical properties of traction and fatigue. The study also verified through microstructural analysis, hardness, traction and fatigue tests, statistical analysis of fatigue test results and fractographic analysis that forging process lead to better correlations between fatigue life and mechanical properties, providing more security in railroads, less wagon retention caused by corrective maintenance and smaller operational cost with its use

The nickel superalloys are known as being a material with poor machinability, they have some properties like high hardness, good resistance at high temperature, tendency to weld with the tool material at high temperature, etc. In the aerospace, biomedical and petrochemical industry, are increasing the need to use materials that resist to aggressive process and environment. In these uses, it has increased the use of nickel-based superalloys like Inconel 718 and consequently the need to research new techniques and tools to improve the machinability of this material. For the superalloys and resistant alloys at high temperatures is considered that the difficulty in the machining regards to the combination of the relatively high cutting forces and high temperatures that grow during the machine process, causing deformation or breakage of the cutting tool. This work purpose is to develop the study of the machining of external cylindrical turning of the nickel based alloy Inconel 718, using ceramic tools, seeking the optimization of machining this alloy, looking to provide real productive increases without the need of investments in new production means. The machining test were accomplished using commercials hard metal tools and the results were compared each other to find the best tool and the best parameter. The conclusion is that the tool TNMG160408-23 -class 1005- was the better one, when used with the parameter 60_15_08

The determination of the remaining life of equipment operating at high temperatures has been a great challenge for their owners. The use of safety factors, often conservative, makes the replacement of equipment or of its components at the end of the life of design gets financially unviable. This study aimed to estimate the remaining life of the serpentine of the secondary superheater of one of REVAP’s boilers (Henrique Lage Refinery), through accelerated creep tests and comparison of the results with the techniques based on microstructure and hardness. When conducting a proper assessment it’s possible to increase the equipment reliability, ensuring operational continuity and physical integrity. The tests showed a minimal residual life of 12.7 years (111,252 hours), longer than the design life (100,000 hours), even after a period of operation of approximately 250,000 hours, confirming the conservatism of the project. The techniques based on microstructure and hardness did not show good correlation with the creep test, decreasing the reliability of these techniques in determining the residual life

This work presents a study that aims to validate the fatigue analyses developed on finite element commercial software, ANSYS Workbench. It was based on mechanical tests development of traction and hardness, to verify the mechanical properties of material that the shaft was manufactured (ABNT 1045 steel), it was developed bend test, with purpose to prove the confiability degree of computational analyses, obtaining the maximum stress in a work condition determined with 40 [kgf] of load applied, and at the end, was developed the fatigue test to obtain the number of cycles that the transmission shaft can support in a work condition with 8 [kgf] of load applied. The results obtained during the work present, have to be quite satisfactory with the theoretically expected

The study of mechanical properties of high-alloy special steels is of great interest of the steel industry due to the great demand by companies that manufacture automotive components of high criticality, and also because of its high commercial value. However, the development of this type of alloy metals demand highly technical knowledge. Among these extremely important kinds of steel, the subject which is the interest of this study is the special steel modified by niobium. The manganese and niobium are the main alloying elements in the composition of these steels, both of them increase the stability of the austenite region, however, manganese increases the hardenability and tensile yield strength, and niobium increases the mechanical strength and promotes refining the grain. The mechanical characterization of steel SAE 1312 modified the niobium was made in order to gain a better understanding of the influence on the mechanical properties caused by aging at different temperatures and for different reductions in the drawing of gauge material. This characterization was made by means of tensile test and hardness. This material showed an increase in yield strength and hardness when gauge with large reductions during the wiredrawing, but when subjected to aging temperatures higher than 300 ° C had a slight loss of these properties

In this work a study about the mechanical properties of the API 5L X70 steel, with or without heat treating, has been made, with the intetion of assess the influence of cooling after the austenitization heat treating by air cooling (normalizing) and a rapid cooling with oil (tempering). This steel is known by high strength and ductility values and it is commonly used in the manufacture of oil pipes. The growing energy demand encouraged the study and manufacture of this material. Although this microalloyed dispense subsequent heat treatings, it was proven that its implementation is very advantageous for this type of application, improving hardness and plastic stability. It was also assessed that the faster the cooling rate is, the better will be these properties

Concerns about the quality of groundwater have been continuously rising, considering its importance for the public water supply in the State of São Paulo, and even more due to the impact that anthropic action has been causing to the original quality of that natural resource. It is extremely relevant to identify the contamination focuses along the aquifers of the State of São Paulo. This report aims to evaluate nitrates and fluorides concentrations along the aquifers present in the state, in order to identify places where change in the quality of groundwater is observed, through the comparison between measured concentrations and reference values, such as: “Intervention Value” (maximum allowed value) and “Alert Value” (attention required value). To perform this research, a full compilation and organization has been done on chemical analysis data from the “Sistema de Informações de Águas Subterrâneas - SIDAS”, made available by the “Divisão de Procedimentos de Outorga – DPO” of the “Departamento de Água e Energia Elétrica – DAEE”. This work has made possible the build-up of a database composed by 6,860 wells, with analytical data ready to be interpreted, containing information about water pH, electrical conductivity, hardness and chloride, iron, fluoride, nitrogen, nitrates and total dissolved solids concentrations. This database shows concentration data for nitrates (6,157 wells) and fluoride (3,316 wells). From this information, maps for nitrates and fluorides concentration distributions have been made, by each aquifer and each “Unidade de Gerenciamento de Recursos Hídricos – UGRHI”, which has enabled the identification of wells where the concentrations of these chemical compounds exceeds the reference values.
