Translation and assembly of HLA-DR antigens in Xenopus oocytes injected with mRNA from a human B-cell line.

HLA-DR antigens are polymorphic cell surface glycoproteins, expressed primarily in B lymphocytes and macrophages, which are thought to play an important role in the immune response. Two polypeptide chains, alpha and beta, are associated at the cell surface, and a third chain associates with alpha and beta intracellularly. RNA isolated from the human B-cell line Raji was injected in Xenopus laevis oocytes. Immunoprecipitates of translation products with several monoclonal antibodies revealed the presence of HLA-DR antigens similar to those synthesized in Raji cells. One monoclonal antibody was able to bind the beta chain after dissociation of the three polypeptide chains with detergent. The presence of all three chains was confirmed by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis. The glycosylation pattern of the three chains was identical to that observed in vivo, as evidenced in studies using tunicamycin, an inhibitor of N-linked glycosylation. The presence of alpha chains assembled with beta chains in equimolar ratio was further demonstrated by amino-terminal sequencing. An RNA fraction enriched for the three mRNAs, encoding alpha, beta, and intracellular chains, was isolated. This translation-assembly system and the availability of monoclonal antibodies make it possible to assay for mRNA encoding specific molecules among the multiple human Ia-like antigens.

Aixecament topogrà fic en tres dimensions de l'Arborètum Dr. Pius Font i Quer de Lleida

Amb el nou jardí botànic de Lleida, l’Arborètum, s’ha aconseguit un gran jardí botànic amb gran variabilitat d’espècies, ja que en 7ha de terreny hi podem trobar fins a 16 ambients amb diferents biodiversitats. En total hi ha uns 1.500 arbres de 225 espècies diferents i 90.000 arbustos de 300 espècies repartits en el territori. Tenint en compte la importància d’aquest jardí botànic, i relacionant-lo amb la topografia, volem aconseguir veure’l en tres dimensions. A través de la visió 3D intentarem donar un tomb virtual dins d’aquest Arborètum, intentant plasmar amb exactitud el seu relleu i recorregut, així com cada un dels seus biomes.

Descendiente de Antoni Bolòs i Ferrussola-farmacéutico botánico que herborizó en varias comarcas catalanas y mantuvo contactos con otros botánicos de su época, especialmente con su suegro Joan Minuart i Parets- y de Francesc Bolòs i Germà-farmacéutico naturalista, autor de trabajos de flora y de geología-, sobrino-nieto de Estanislau Vayreda i Vila, nieto de Ramon de Bolòs i Saderra-los dos últimos, farmacéuticos botánicos, miembros de la escuela de Antoni C. Costa- e hijo de Antoni de Bolòs i Vayreda-farmacéutico botánico, director del Institut Botànic de Barcelona en tiempos difíciles-, Oriol de Bolòs i Capdevila (Olot, 16 de marzo de 1924- Barcelona, 22 de marzo de 2007) siguió-de un modo que podríamos considerar natural, lógico- la tradición científica de su familia de estudio de las plantas, siendo el primero de la saga en ejercerla no a partir de los estudios de farmacia, sino desde los de ciencias naturales....
