GOALS: This research evaluated the change in arterial pressure before and after two procedures of dental prophylaxis: Jet system baking soda and conventional prophylaxis and patient's opinion regarding the comfort of each one. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Were selected 32 patients with age between 18 to 30 years old, who need prophylaxis to remove biofilm and were subjected to three different types of treatment: sodium bicarbonate jet (G1), prophylaxis conventional (G2) and placebo (G3) at intervals of one month between them. Patients were divided randomly. Arterial pressure was measured by wrist digital Omron HEM – 6111. The measurements were realized in four times: before the prophylaxis, immediately the end of procedure, 15 and 30 minutes after finished of treatment. Patient comfort was measured by a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) after the end of the treatment. The data were analyzed using the variance test. The results showed that there was statistically significant difference to the comfort of the procedures. RESULTS: There was a statistically significant difference to the comfort of the procedures, and G2 and G3 better than G1. Regarding the variation of arterial pressure there was no statistically significant difference between groups. CONCLUSIONS: The methods of prophylaxis no effect on arterial pressure, but conventional prophylaxis is more comfortable than others treatments

The object of this study was assess through pre-clinical tests, the possible diuretic activity and the effects on the mean arterial pressure of the aqueous and ethanolic extracts of branches of “bugre”, Hedyosmum brasiliense Miq., species used in the treatment of renal and urinary disorders The tests were made in males anesthetized Wistar rats and randomly distributed into 4 experimental groups: Group I – Water control, group II – treated with aqueous extract (EA) of “bugre”, Group III – water control + “tween 80”, group IV – treated with ethanol extract (EE) and “bugre”. All groups were subjected to experimental protocol, composed of three periods: Balance (40 minutes), Basal (30 minutes) and Experimental (90 minutes), occurring the urine collection every 30 minutes, from the basal period and measuring blood pressure every 10 minutes. The results presented validate the ethnobotany indication of the use of H. brasiliense tea in the treatment of renal problems, because increased significantly the urinary flow in anesthetized Wistar rats (diuretic effect), without changing significantly (p>0,05) the arterial pressure

As infecções do trato urinário (ITU) são definidas como a invasão e posterior multiplicação de microorganismos nos tecidos das vias urinárias, sendo a bactéria gram-negativa E.coli o principal uropatógeno envolvido nessa infecção. A avaliação para a presença de ITU é feita através do quadro clínico característico desse tipo de paciente e o exame de cultura de urina. As amostras positivas para as culturas são avaliadas quanto ao perfil de sensibilidade aos antimicrobianos dos agentes etiológicos encontrados. Descrever a porcentagem de ocorrência dos agentes etiológicos e o perfil de sensibilidade aos antimicrobianos das Infecções do Trato Urinário em pacientes ambulatoriais de Botucatu e região. Foram incluídas neste estudo culturas de urinas de pacientes atendidos em UBS de Botucatu e região Pólo Cuesta, no período de Janeiro de 2008 a Maio de 2010. As culturas positivas foram avaliadas quanto a porcentagem de ocorrência dos uropatógenos segundo sexo, faixa etária e origem. Foi utilizado o teste do qui-quadrado para verificar associação entre cada antimicrobiano e as porcentagens de sensibilidade e resistência encontradas. Foram avaliadas 11.768 culturas de urina provenientes de 11 municípios da região, sendo consideradas as culturas positivas (28%). Quanto à ocorrência dos agentes etiológicos verificou-se que a E.coli é responsável 58,76% dos casos. A distribuição dos uropatógenos segundo sexo revelou maior ocorrência de E.coli nos dois sexos. O segundo agente etiológico de maior ocorrência foi, nos homens o Proteus mirabilis e nas mulheres, o S. saprophyticus. Dentre as faixas etárias, a E.coli foi o patógeno de maior ocorrência. O perfil de sensibilidade aos antimicrobianos revelou que a E.coli é mais sensível a Ertapenem, Imipenem, Meropenem, Fosfomicina, Amicacina, Ceftriaxona, Nitrofurantoína e Norfloxacina; e mais resistente... The aim of this study was to verify through microtensile test the influence of time and concentration of surface conditioning with hydrofluoric acid and its interference in the adhesion of dual resin cement to porcelain.We used 32 bodies of glass-ceramic lithium disilicate system IPS e.max Press LT with dimensions of 6mm thick, 8 mm in length and 8 mm in length, which will be molded to obtain composite resin blocks corresponding to blocks ceramics. Ceramic and resin blocks were divided into 16 groups (n = 4) and numbered according to the concentration of hydrofluoric acid (2.5%, 5%, 7.5% and 10%) and conditioning time (20 seconds, 40 seconds, 1 minute and 2 minutes). The blocks were cleaned in ultrasonic apparatus with distilled water and dried with compressed air, subjected to acid etching and air-jet washed with water, dried with compressed air and received application of silane agent Monobond-S, followed by adhesive Excite ( Ivoclar Vivaden). Each ceramic block was bonded to the corresponding block of resin through the resin cement Multilink Automix. The specimens were cut to obtain nine micro samples for each set of ceramic-resin with 1 mm X 1 mm X 12 mm in length, which were submitted to microtensile test. The results were analyzed with descriptive statistics and analysis of variance with significance level of 5%, revealing that there were statistically significant (p = 0.000001 <0.05). From the Tukey test can be concluded that etching with hydrofluoric acid and 2.5% for 120 seconds gave the best bond strength, however, no statistical difference between the conditioning with the same acid in the concentration of 5.0% for 20 to 40 seconds

Diplópodos são animais detritívoros sendo considerados importantes macro-artrópodos do solo, desempenhando importante papel na manutenção do equilíbrio do ecossistema. Comumente não apresentam população numerosa, mas desequilíbrios ambientais, mudanças climáticas e utilização de pesticidas podem eliminar possíveis competidores ocasionando explosões populacionais. Dotados de um corpo cilíndrico com 25 a 100 segmentos com cutícula; o exoesqueleto da maioria dos diplópodos é fortemente calcificado. Possuem diplossegmentos que se originam da fusão entre dois segmentos durante o desenvolvimento e a grande parte destes diplossegmentos apresenta dois pares de pernas, de onde deriva o nome Diplopoda. O tubo digestório destes animais é formado por três regiões: o intestino anterior, o médio e o posterior. Trabalhos com morfologia do tubo digestório de milípides são raros e na maioria antigos. Assim, este trabalho de conclusão de curso objetivou realizar uma revisão bibliográfica sobre as descrições morfológicas existentes sobre o tubo digestório de diplópodos visando rever a nomenclatura utilizada para os diferentes componentes presentes nas regiões que o compõem, principalmente para o tecido presente na região do intestino médio denominada até então de camada de “corpo gorduroso” constituinte do intestino médio. Foi intuito também, rever a utilização do tubo digestório de diplópodos como biomarcador em bioensaios de solos impactados. Após a revisão dos dados na literatura, ficou claro que a camada presente no intestino médio de diplópodos, denominada de “corpo gorduroso”, na realidade é constituída por células hepáticas, as quais foram descritas na literatura como sendo de distribuição aleatória, sem formar uma camada contínua

Baccharis trimera (Less.) DC. Asteraceae e Casearia sylvestris Swartz Salicaceae são plantas nativas do Brasil e de uso tradicional em doenças do trato digestório. Seus extratos e substâncias purificadas apresentaram diversas atividades farmacológicas (ex.antiulcerogênica, antimicrobiana) e baixa toxicidade. O Helicobacter pylori (bacilo gram-negativo) coloniza o estômago humano, associada ao maior risco de incidência de várias doenças (úlceras pépticas, linfomas e adenocarcinomas gástricos). Com o objetivo de avaliar a atividade antibacteriana de diferentes extratos, frações e substâncias de ambas as plantas medicinais, extratos de partes aéreas de B. trimera e de folhas de C. sylvestris foram preparados utilizando-se técnicas de maceração, obtendo-se o extrato acetato de etila e etanólico de C. sylvestris e acetato de etila, etanólico, etanol 70% e hexânico de B. trimera. Estes foram fracionados e analisados por técnicas cromatográficas. Os extratos e suas frações e substâncias foram submetidos a ensaios para avaliação da atividade antibacteriana para a determinação da concentração inibitória mínima (CIM). O método utilizado para os ensaios foi a diluição em microplacas usando as bactérias Helicobacter pylori ATCC 43504, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 e Escherichia coli ATCC 25922. A partir do fracionamento do extrato acetato de etila de B. trimera e do extrato etanólico de C. sylvestris foram obtidas oito frações distintas do EAcBt e a fração de diterpenos do EEtCs. A análise em CCD demonstrou a presença de casearina X, B e caseargrewiina F na fração de diterpenos (EFSCs2). Os extratos da B. trimera EAcBt, EEtBt e EEt70Bt e da C. sylvestris EAcCs e EEtCs apresentaram atividade anti-H. pylori, com valores de CIM de 250, 500, 500, 125 e 750 g/mL, respectivamente... In the literature, it is possible to find a large number of studies directed toward athletic training in the physical, technical and tactical aspects of the Soccer game. In the other side, we are able to attest that there exists few instruments in the sport area of studies on evaluation of the athlete, in specific, rare are the instruments for assessment that takes into consideration the game situation. The most important aspect of an instrument of assessment is its validity. The present study has the objective to validate the “Instrument for Assessment of the Soccer Player” (IASP), proposed by Gama (2003). For the process of validation, participated nine university students, volunteers, four women and five men. The evaluators had a training period for acquaintance with the instrument and they analyzed, in individual basis, soccer games registered in video. This procedure was done via a 29 inches TV set, a DVD device and a voice recorder. Tests of reliability and objectivity were applied in order to measure intra and between observers consistency. As for the objectivity analysis, the results for each one of the soccer motor action with the ball in a game situation showed high correlation between possible score and obtained score. However these data did not allow for the validation of the IASP instrument as the criterion applied to the analyzed actions were different between observers even when of the observation of the same player in the same game. This problem was detected also in the evaluation of reliability. However, the present study was capable to point out inconsistencies within the Instrument for Assesment of the Soccer Player (IASP) so that after the needed changes being made, another validation will be done

The Rooming favors the permanence of the mother with the newborn, thus establishing a stronger link between the mother and baby, in addition, care assistance and guidance are essential to both through the health care team because they recognize the moments critical that their interventions are necessary to ensure the health of both. The educational lecture was an option to have the opportunity to assist, guide and answer possible questions that may arise for mothers, and also to assess the knowledge of puéperas regarding the care of babies and self care. There was participation from 40 patients. In the study methodology was developed a questionnaire containing two subjects (self-care and care for newborns) was given to patients before and after the lecture held by the author in a rooming Maternity HC de Botucatu. The results were analyzed statistically and studied by the author, allowing note that many significant results were obtained after the lecture, which we realize that the same intervention on self-care was significant in respect of: bleeding, infection in the genital tract and urinary tract, surgical dehiscence , care of the lower limbs and constipation, how to care for the newborn was the significance to the questions about the hygiene of the umbilical stump, cramps, hunger, weeping and pacifiers. In the pre-lecture questions 73.00% of 27.00% were right and wrong. Our conclusion is that the mothers have a high level of prior knowledge and educational lectures enriches their knowledge in a creative and participatory

O tamanho da semente é uma importante característica para a ecologia das espécies vegetais, pois tem grande influência em vários aspectos de suas estratégias de vida. Incluindo assim a sobrevivência das plântulas, a síndrome de dispersão e o número de sementes que podem ser produzidos para uma determinada quantidade de energia. Apesar de muitos trabalhos, testarem o efeito da massa da semente no tamanho das plântulas, apenas alguns deles avaliam como essa relação pode variar entre distintas populações. Neste estudo, nós avaliamos a importância da massa das sementes de Euterpe edulis para a sua germinação, e posterior desenvolvimento das plântulas. Nossa primeira hipótese testada foi a que afirma a massa da semente como uma importante característica para a germinação. Já a segunda, é a de que há algum tipo de relação entre massa da semente e biomassa das plântulas, também se esta biomassa é independente do status de conservação da área. Para isto, foram estudadas três populações defaunadas, pois as aves consideradas potenciais dispersoras de longa distância desta espécie vegetal, já foram extintas como: Tucanos e Araçari. Com isso, estas populações estão submetidas a um provável baixo fluxo gênico, ao passo que outras quatro áreas são não defaunadas. Nossos dados mostram que: a massa da semente não é uma característica importante para a germinação. No entanto, há uma relação positiva entre massa da semente e biomassa da plântula. Sendo que esta biomassa depende do status da população, ou seja, se defaunada ou não defaunada. Pois este padrão encontrado, talvez se deva a fatores genéticos, os quais podem estar sendo determinados pela perda das aves dispersoras, ou seja, efeitos da defaunação na ecologia reprodutiva da espécie vegetal

A hematúria é a eliminação de um número anormal de hemácias na urina e suas causas são múltiplas e nem sempre a investigação clínica é simples. A indicação para se estabelecer a diferenciação entre as causas das hematúrias, se glomerulares ou não glomerulares é feita através de solicitação específica do exame de dismorfismo eritrocitário. Esse exame é realizado em urina recém emitida, colhida em jato médio, por meio de microscopia de contraste de fase onde a morfologia das hemácias pode sugerir a origem da hematúria, direcionando o diagnóstico e conduta terapêutica pelo clínico. Neste projeto estudou-se a aplicação da caracterização das hemácias por microscopia de contraste de fase nos casos de hematúrias detectadas, sem a presença de leucocitúrias (sinais que sugerem infecção do trato urinário) nos achados de sedimentoscopia urinária realizados na rotina do setor de bioquímica clínica do CRD-Nac-UNESP, avaliando assim a importância da indicação da aplicação deste procedimento para a clínica

Currently the mobile services represent an essential tool in daily life of the population. However, while offering greater convenience to its users, there is growing concern about the harmful effects to human health, derived from daily exposure of the public to electromagnetic fields from radio base stations (RBS), since even today, there is no study proving that longterm exposure to low-level fields are not harmful to health. In Presidente Prudente has not been a study reporting values of measurements of electromagnetic fields from base stations installed in the city. Based on these data, this study aimed to assess the levels of electromagnetic exposure in the city of Presidente Prudente regarding recommended by international bodies, as well as propose measures that can reduce public exposure to electromagnetic fields. For measuring values of electromagnetic fields, we used appliance Electromagnetic Field Meter Portable Digital - DRE-050, the Instrutherm, following the methodology suggested and adapted from the Adilza Condessa Dode’study. In total, 49 points were mapped corresponding to the areas at risk of exposure to electromagnetic fields generated by the substations of power grid, transmission towers and telecommunication towers located in the city of Presidente Prudente (SP)

Currently the use of pesticides in agriculture is widespread due to their high effectiveness in combating pests, weeds and diseases leading to better productivity and economical performance in agricultural area. The use of pesticides affects the whole world and their use is often performed in an improper and indiscriminate way and for long periods. Several studies have been carried out in order to verify the presence of pesticides in nature, with worrying results. The presence of higher levels of pesticides and their degradation products in soil and surface and groundwater have indicated increasing contamination. Among the most widely used pesticides, herbicides are present and among these trifluralin has occupied an important place due to its widespread use; it is an herbicide originated from benzene derivatives belonging to dinitroanilines family; it is classified as belonging to group C, being possibly carcinogenic for humans, present a high persistence in soil as a result of its low mobility and therefore may affect local edaphic fauna. Diplopods belong to a group of invertebrates considered important in the soil dynamics; due to their close contact with it, these animals can be used as bioindicators of substrates toxicity. This study aimed to expose diplopod specimens of the species R. padbergi to different concentrations of trifluralin and therefore it was mounted five bioassays containing soil from the site where animals were collected (control group) and the same soil mixed to different concentrations of trifluralin herbicide (concentration recommended for agriculture use, that is, the dose recommended by the producer 0.0534g/m2, double, haft and quarter of this dose), animals were exposed for 7 and 90 days. Ocimum basilicum L., popularmente conhecido como manjericão, é uma planta pertencente à Lamiaceae, cujo óleo volátil possui diversas atividades biológicas, tais como antifúngica, antigiardíase, antioxidante, antibacteriana, antileishmaniose, inseticida, dentre outras. É constituído principalmente por monoterpenos, sesquiterpenos e fenilpropanoides. A composição de metabólitos secundários nas plantas, dos quais os óleos voláteis fazem parte, pode sofrer influência de diversos fatores. Neste trabalho, foi investigada a influência das doenças virais no perfil dos óleos voláteis do manjericão. Para isso, sementes de Ocimum basilicum L. cv. Genovese foram semeadas e mantidas em casa de vegetação. Ao atingirem tamanho adequado (dois pares de folhas acima das cotiledonares), foram inoculadas com vírus não identificado, isolado de manjericão, além do Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) e Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV). O óleo volátil de plantas sadias e infectadas foi extraído por hidrodestilação em aparelho de Clevenger e analisado em cromatógrafo gasoso acoplado ao espectrômetro de massas. Os cromatogramas revelaram a presença de metileugenol e ρ- cresol,2,6-di-terci-butílico como principais componentes, sendo que a porcentagem de metileugenol diminuiu significativamente nas plantas infectadas com o vírus não identificado. Houve mudanças na composição do óleo volátil, sendo alguns componentes encontrados apenas nas plantas sadias e outros somente nas infectadas

The purpose of this work is to provide quality control requirements and security in dental x-rays in order to obtain good quality image which allows the correct diagnosis, which reduces the dose to the patient, mainly due to the repetition of tests, and decreasing cost. The requirements apply to related activities to quality control and procedures using ionizing radiation for diagnostic imaging in dentistry by evaluating a minimum set of parameters to be tested or verified. Quality control follows the Ordinance No. 453 of the Ministry of Health of 06.01.1998, SS Resolution No. 625 of 12.14.1994 and Resolution No. 64 of the Health Surveillance Center – Department of Health of Sao Paulo and National Health Surveillance Agency – Ministry of Health of Brazil. This study was conducted in the city of Marilia, Sao Paulo, along with the Company P&R Consulting and Medical Physics, in a dental clinic of the University UNIMAR in the x-ray equipment used on that site. The physical parameters of the device were tested with the aid of ionization chambers to measure rates of radiation, electrometer to measure rates of time, kV and doses, radiographic films and positioning devices. Finally, this work demonstrates the need and importance of quality control, which one ensures the proper use of x-ray machines, maintaining efficiency and at the same time it reduces the risks to the patient, to the dentist and to the general public

Small non coding RNAs emerged as important characters in several biology aspects. Among then, the most studied are microRNAs (miRNAs) and short interfering RNAs (siRNAs), that regulate their target gene post-transcriptionally in plants, animals and RNAi pathway intermediates, respectively. Both of classes have similar biogenesis being processed by Dicer enzymes and subsequent association with Argonaute enzymes. In plants, miRNAs and siRNAs have important functions in development, genome integrity and biotic and abiotic stress responses. The advances in high-throughtput sequencing and in silico analisys provide the uncover of new small non coding RNAs classes, many of them with unknown functions and biogenesis. tRNA derived small RNAs (tRFs) are a small non coding RNA class, that have as precursor a tRNA molecule. These were uncovers in the last decade in many organisms and, recently, in plants. Recent works detected tRFs from different sizes, with different source portions of the mature tRNA molecule (5’ end; 3’ end, anti-codon loop) and some from the tRNA precursor (pre-tRNA), suggesting that may be a novel class of small RNA and not random degradation products. Works in humans showed that some tRFs are processed by the Dicer enzymes, have association with the Argonaute enzymes and cell differentiation, tumor appearance and gene silencing related functions. Works in Arabidopsis and pumpkin (Cucurbita maxima) showed, respectively, that the tRFs have nutritional stress response possible functions and long distance signaling function between source and drain tissues, and may affect the translation. The tRFs biogenesis in plants are, until now an unknown, absence information about it in the literature and its possible biological functions are few studied yet, making then interesting target for studies among the small non coding RNAs in plants
